GC: Fable III revealed

Molyneux confirms third installment for Xbox 360
Peter Molyneux's just confirmed Fable III for the Xbox 360.

As suggested in the second game's DLC, Fable III has you playing as the ruler of Albion, choosing to be either a great king or an evil tyrant.

In the third game you play as the son or daughter of the Hero from Fable II, who will be generated based on your old save game.

At the start of the three-quel you'll lead a revolution against an evil king, before taking over yourself.

You will be able to visit anyone anywhere in your land, making things better (or worse) in the process. You can give all your money to the poor, or you can spend it all on making your castle better. You can also make good the promises you made during your effort to rally troops to take on the king.

The choice/consequence mechanic so prevalent in the previous games will now return and affect 'everyone in the kingdom'. You can even act as judge in a trial over some stolen bread. You can even go and investigate the evidence yourself as a quest.

Some voice talent will be carried over (for instance, Zoe Wanamaker could be heard voicing the trailer). All the voice acting has been acted out and staged by the voice actors (unlike the previous games), which is a new method for the development team, adding more realism to the exchanges.

There will also be a new feature called touch. This will allow you to alter relationships through touch. This will range from deciding whether or not to shake hands when you meet someone for the first time, to kisses and more. But apparently not to 'cupping' (not our words, mind...)

Another part of the touch system will be 'dynamic touch'. At any time, you can reach out and touch something. You can hold someone's hand, or even lead them up to a cliff and watch the sunset. And it'll make dramatic scenes that much more immediate. No longer will you 'press A to save the child'. You take their hand and pull them to safety.

Fable III will be out in 2010 on Xbox 360. But (and we quote) 'Don't expect it too early'.

UPDATE: Full PR follows:

Alexander the Great. Genghis Khan. Queen Elizabeth I. Che Guevara. Throughout history, revolutionary leaders have taken very different paths to power, bringing about prosperity and poverty, peace and sometimes anarchy to their people. Now Microsoft Corp. and Lionhead Studios will explore the journey to rule, with you in pursuit of a kingdom, in "Fable III," the exciting new game in the critically acclaimed "Fable" franchise. The title's debut was confirmed today at gamescom in Germany by Peter Molyneux, Lionhead's creative director, and will be available exclusively on Xbox 360 in the 2010 holiday season.

"Be not deceived. Revolutions do not go backward." - Abraham Lincoln

Since its inception, the blockbuster "Fable" franchise has offered players the opportunity to choose their own destinies as a hero, villain or someone between, where the possibilities are limitless and the consequences can weigh heavily on the path to greatness. In this new adventure, players will witness tyranny, poverty and injustice plague their land. They will see a people divided, and they will be compelled to stand up for change. They will also be forced to answer a question: What would you sacrifice to secure the crown of Albion? Will you uphold the values and principles that led to your ascension, or will you be corrupted by the station you've strived to acquire? Will you be a monarch of the people, or bring the entirety of Albion to the brink of collapse?

"We've spent a lot of time at Lionhead thinking about how we can innovate the gameplay and progress the world of the 'Fable' games for its third chapter, and we're confident that players won't second-guess what we have planned for 'Fable III,'" said Molyneux, who also serves as creative director of Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Microsoft Game Studios. "Though I can't give too much away right now, players should expect to have to make much tougher choices with far wider consequences than ever before in Albion - and with many more interactive adventure elements."

In the epic story of "Fable III," the journey to rule the throne of Albion begins five decades after the events of the last chapter, and you play as the child of your hero from "Fable II." As you rule your kingdom as king or queen, you will be called upon to make choices and sacrifices that will test your morality and can affect your entire kingdom. Themes of heroism, leadership and consequence are taken to a grand scale as you fight to unite a divided people.

heard this nearly half and hour ago well done C.V.G finally brought it up... and what you mean you will have more when you get it? Lionhead stage started at 9:08, anyway folks new epsiodes for fable 2 and fable 3 you can become a king and rule the land and the people. Now there is steam machines etc... full preview at other known websites like Eurogamer.
Posted by casperthedog
Yay, i loved Fable 2 and looking forward to this as well. Two of my favorite series announcements of new games in a day, your spoiling me :)
Posted by ParmaViolet
You know?, for someone that seems to enjoy moaning about CVG, you seem to spend an awful lot of time here.

Perhaps you should frequent the 'other known websites like Eurogamer' more and quit the bitching....it's very tiresome.

On topic: Superb news! - more Fable can never be a bad thing.

Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
wow. what a dick.

Guess its a year away, but sounds promising. like the idea of it being a direct sequel during a sort of industrial revolution age. So long as i can get myself a stem powered pistol i'll be happy.
Posted by lobo666gaara
Child I've read and stuck with C.V.G for over 10 years were you even born? and i bitch because for such a great website and magazine to fall behind when they were at the forefront for so long is what is tiresome.

Err... Fable III.

SO WHERE'S THE XBOX360 NEWS B*TCHES?

LordVonPS3's 1st issue of Computer and Video Games, 1986.
The one with the Salamander (propaganda) arcade review... or was it the one with the CPC464 Infiltrator review... or were they both in the same issue?! :?

Anyone from CVG care to look up which issue(s) those were?

SONY STEALS GAMESCOM.

Steam powered pistol? Why settle? Go for gold and develop a steam powered early-prototype Gatlin gun! Back in the 18th Century there was actually a British inventor who created a three barrelled gun that could fire more rounds per minute than existing weapons. It didn't catch the imagination of the military establishment at the time and he died a pauper, if I recall correctly. Just goes to show that sometimes the better ideas don't rise to the top.

My God...you're an adult?

As it happens - yes, I was born...I've also been reading CVG since back in the days of the Spectrum. Perhaps you should treat the website, forum and forum members with a little more respect - then you might avoid people getting sick of your childish, pointless and downright stupid posts.

This website has never been 'cutting edge' - you've always been able to get more up-to-date news elsewhere. So, for someone that's been following CVG for years, you've not been following too closely.

I have been reading CVG since jack was a lad and I have to agree that they have gone down the pan. I don't care about instant news updates because they are generally faster with news than Eurogamer. What I don't like is the poor forum and the fanboy baiting manner which they write their stories. CVG is akin to the Daily Star of gaming media now.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
I was thinking about a gatlin gun initially, then thought carrying it around would be a bugger. Then again why stop at just having a gun, if Fable III is going all steam punk on us. Why not have myself some kind of steam powered tank, or a huge derrigable for me to rain firey death upon my enemies from.

You are quite correct sir, sometimes the better ideas don't rise to the top, *cough* PS3 *cough*

wait that wasn't a better idea.

Stole it from who? This really is a 'War' for you Lord, eh?
Posted by Conkers
Isn’t this news exactly as surprising about Sony announcing a slim version of the PS3? They have done that with all their other consoles, haven’t they?

It makes an unsurprised me happy though, I like Fable, I’m also glad there will be new episodic content for Fable II, with the first being free, lovely.
Posted by MrPirtniw
Woohoo! Fable 3! Awesome news- if it was to be expected. Fable 2 remains one of the most fun games of this gen- my girlfriend is gonna freak when I tell her- it's her favourite game ever.

2 things that need rectifying though Lionhead: The main quest needs to be so much longer, perhaps with a more elaborate plot and make it so you CAN die. It's all well catering for those that aren't very good at games, and it was fun constantly progressing through the game- but where's the challenge?

Ooh, and if the dog's back- I want an alsation (spelling)!

Point proven  .
Posted by The_KFD_Case
I was just thinking the very same thing in regards to a steam powered tank. :D

Nice joke btw.  It will be interesting to see how the new PS3 announcement impacts overall sales and console standings over the coming year, along with what MS's response will be, if any (I'm guessing increased bundled packages and/or a changes to the recent rumours of a price cut for the Elite and an increase for the Arcade).

here we go again.

I want some proper XBox 360 news.

Really... (and not that Natal thing - which I have no interest in).
Posted by Black Mantis
Excellent news! Love that it'll be linked to Fable 2 saves, always a good thing in my opinion. :D
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
thanks. I'm not going to be downgrading to a PS3 slim. I like having lynux and backwards compatibility. Not sure how Sony have stolen games com with the revealing of an even further dummed down version of existing tech.

I can see PS3 sales going up slightly as people snag the last remaining original PS£s then they'll drop off again.

Back on Topic. We all knew this was coming but didn't think it would be for a good long while. gives us all something fun to speculate about too.

vehicles would be good, but how about some kind of army too command. and maybe the ability to wage war on neighbouring countries if i'm going to be playing the ruler of albion i want to be able to make sure i have some kind of empire or at least attempt to burn toadland to the ground.

* PSP Slim.
* Free GT PSP for early PSP Go adopters.
* Games!

It's sounding a bit like they're sticking even more Black & White in Fable than ever before.

Not convinced by the idea of being a monarch instead of a hero though, but I'll hold off on making a proper opinion until we get more info.
Posted by MilkyJoe1
ugh not another fable, why cant it be B&W2 or even another Movies
Posted by MrPirtniw
Sony steals Games com? Hmmm, so far Mass Effect 2 is by far the most exciting thing shown in my opinion!
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
i'm not sure Lionhead or MS own the rights to Black and White. So i don't think we'll be seeing another one unless EA decide to ressurect the series in some way.

I have a feeling thats why Fable 3 seems to incorporate a lot of the ideas from Black and White into it becasue they can't make another black and white. in name anyway.

Surprised we haven't heard more about milo to be honest.
Posted by Eclipse Dj
So I'm guessing this touch feature will make use of the up-coming Natal camera. i.e. gesturing to shake hands/hold hands. I wonder if any voice recognition will be included?
Posted by blagger
More fable madness, fantastic :)
Fable 2 was great fun.

Lordvonps3's not upset about fable3 coming out, he's upset that the downloadable game of the year 'shadow complex' is out today and it won't hit the ps3
Posted by LordVonPS3
 @ downloadable GOTY. I guess I'll have to pick it up on my X360! Damn, I'm upset!
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
you're right. i forgot about that in all the hub bub. gonna be getting that as soon as i get home.
Posted by Black Mantis
EA own the Black & White IP, as that was done by Bullfrog, whom they bought out.
MS own the Movies IP however, and Molyneux has stated he'd love to make another one. I would love to see it next year with Natal compatibility...
Posted by ParmaViolet
Black & White was Lionheads' first game - but, the IP is owned by EA.

The Movies would be a great franchise to relaunch, a very clever title.

Hmmmm - with Natal support?...that could work very well indeed.

:)
Posted by blagger
Like you really own a 360 Lordvonps3

We'll let you know how good the game is
Posted by Conkers
Though I haven't played Shadow Complex yet, I'm going to have to go with Trials HD instead, as that game is simply amazing.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
seems perfectly suited to it.

So sadly does black and white. Maybe with his new clout as head of MS europe he could try and buy the IP back off EA.

Natal enabled Balck and White would be stonking.
Posted by ParmaViolet
That's all I've been hearing about this week - I've got two brothers hopelessly addicted to it (it's the gaming equivalent of crack). I must admit, it does look good....but, it looks a little too much for my dodgy old thumbs.

Still, two absolutely brilliant titles added to XBLA can't be a bad thing.

:)
Posted by flash501
Even if it's late 2010 it's still far sooner than I would have expected. Great news.Although I'm not sure if I'll like the more industrial setting
Posted by clifton
Not that interested really. Whilst FABLE II had some nice ideas, i found a lot of to be tedious and not that fun to play.

How are they going to make the third based on your child when your child dies? Unless you picked the option to save your wife and kid at the end your child will be dead. Not to mention that you may never have got married in the game at all or had sex once. Unlikely I know but just a thought.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
its in the epilogue to the last Dlc pack they released, you become king and have a child. This child will decide the fate of albion.
Posted by LordVonPS3
Yes I do.

I haven't played Trials HD yet either, but I will. Oh and by the way XBots... There's nothing confirming Trials HD will stay exclusive to XBL/X360, it's made by RedLynx in Finland and there's a PC version as well, so don't be counting those chickens... http://www.redlynx.com/
Posted by Conkers
That would make more sense, as that way they don't have to incorporate any choices you made in the previous game. Though they really should dependent on how your play through affected the game world itself rather than the people.

And Parma, Trials is brilliant. Infuriating, excruciating and some times baffling, but without the smallest little doubt the best thing I have ever played from XBLA. The leaderboards can be a little disheartening (I’m trying to convince my mates to buy it so I have something at least attainable to aim for), and it does knacker your thumbs, but I cannot wax lyrical about it enough. Buy it!
Posted by ricflair
Excellent. This is, at this moment in time, the title I'm most looking forward to after L4D2. Loved Fable 2, but didn't get the second lot of DLC as I though Knothole was a bit lacking.

And Trials HD is ridiculous. I thought I'd have a quick go trying to get a few golds, started at midnight, play for half an hour... I look at my phone at it's 1:45!

For once, I have the exact amount of MS points to get Shadow Complex. I'm tempted to go downstairs and get it now, but I don't play games in the daytime midweek.

And yeah conkers, some of those leaderboard times are crazy considering the games been out a week. I think the highest rank I've got on anything is about 3,000th! Perhaps going back over them with faster bikes when I've unlocked them will quicken my times??
Posted by Conkers
Yes I do.

Am I an Xbot now? Oh jolly good, I hadn’t realised I’d insinuated Trials HD would stay exclusive though, nor do I care if it does or not.

Actually, thinking about it, I do, it should go multiplatform, it’s a great game and should be played by all console gamers and have unified leaderboards…if only they would allow such a thing.

I thought the PC version was different? But PC games don’t come onto my radar, as I only use a PC while I’m at work, or for transferring my CD’s onto my iPod and watching porn at home. Although social networking has now overtaken porn as the most viewed thing on the internet, crazy times!

Reassuring to see that what should have been a standard topic about the announcement of Fable 3 has once agin descended into fanboy madness.

I'm surprised this was announced so soon, happy of course, any Fable is better than no Fable. It'll be interesting to see how different the world will be considring it's not set too far after the last game. Not many things I would want changed form the last except to open the world up a bit more, for an open world game it was very linear last time (the route between the main city and the village in particular). But yay anyway!
Posted by ParmaViolet
Yeah, the timing surprised me a little. Sure, we all knew there would be a Fable 3 - but, I wasn't convinced they'd begin work on it immediately.

I guess most of the work is already there with Fable 2.

Really looking forward to the gameplay variations that Molyneux described - unlike a lot of people, I really like the guy....he might speak a bit too much and get a little over-enthusiastic, but he generally gives us quality titles.

:)

See the GT5 damage video here!
http://www.gtplanet.net/new-gran-turismo-5-damage-images/
Posted by Conkers
I own an Xbox, does that immediately make me one? That would make you one too, you filthy Xbot scum.

That video is rather nice, once thing about the damage though, why doesn’t the car that rammed into the rear, and get blocked off by ramming the side, have any damage on it at all? Is the damage only going to be for the player controlled cars?

Either way still looks frikkin lovely though.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
i'd say most open world games were still fairly linear. Its just the ability of the dev to make them seem less so. You still have to go to a, do b and repeat but its how you accomplish the task that can differ greatly.

As for the fanboys. I think they're on day release because of the big sony announcement.

Anyone know if nintendo are going to be doing a conference.

GT5 for the win!!!!

When it arrives in 2012 alongside Alan Wake
Posted by jazzy_p
Fable 2 really wasnt that great...i dont see why people like it so much.
It had character yeah, but it was monotonous. Storyline was rather boring.
It was a Terry Pratchet game in all but name..which is fine i suppose, but rather boring in the end.

As for GT5...come on, you know Alan Wake and Duke Nukem Forever are coming out first yeah?
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
its ok i hear GT5 prologue 2 is coming out next year.

everybody likes paying for glorified demos... right!

i thought alan wake had a release date now. Its out sometime in March i think. Seen a damn sight more of ti than GT5 in recent months.

Good point, also, once the bonnet came loose wouldn't it get ripped off completely when bombing down the straight?, relatively minor gripes anyway I suppose. As the Chinese guy from Lethal Weapon 4 would say: this and Forza should be bwoody mawvelous.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
i dunno its been raining so hard for the last 4 years i don't mind a let up in the weather.

don't know why you'd be playing Final Fantasy XII (12) on your PS3 unless you've got a launch model.

Think you'll find people will be playing Final Fantasy XIII (13) on the 360 as well as the PS3 when its released next year though.

considering the PS3 has been pretty light on exclusives over the last few years compared to the 360 i'd say its about bloody time it got some more.

looking forward to playing God of War 3, Heavy Rain, uncharted 2 and demon souls myself.

Then again i'm also looking forward to giving Halo ODST, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Fable 3 and left 4 dead 2 a try.

Then of course theres Red steel 2, Rabbids go home, murumasa, silent hill shattered memories, cursed mountain, dead space extraction, no more heroes 2 and new super mario bros wii to look forward to as well on the wii.

thats before the multi platform delights of Brutal legend, arkham asylum, assassins creed 2, boarderlands and Wet and many more i could mention.

Look suiv. i've bested your megre list by being something i'm sure you truly despise a multiplatform gamer.

that has no kind of insane fandom to any of them.
If you'd noticed it looks like i'll be playing on the wii mostly in the coming months anyway.
Posted by The_Hun1
seems this could be a perfect launch title for natal next year, if natal does half of what has been said then a game like fable 3 should be a killer app for it, just think of using that along side a joypad, it can tell when your angry or sad or what else you wanted to do..

You are possibly the worst of the lot if we believe your little story about you owning all three consoles

how can ya gorge yourself so thoroughly on so many games on all the consoles

like a sinful and gluttonous pig

you need a PS3 and that is enough - what you are doing is immoral really and you should bloody well calm down

it's like a movie buff going out to the cinema and watching every sh*t hollywoot movie that comes out

You just wouldn't get that would you: they'd be laughed at

It is why the games industry is looked down upon as we have widespread silliness

one or two games a year is enough and I'll tell you now I purchased only 2 games in the year 2008 and that's the truth

your shameless fervency over sh*t games like halos/left 4 deed needs to stop otherwise we'll all continue to laugh at you here
Posted by nottsville
Only two games?

And you actually have the gall to come on here and comment about what other people do and how they play their games?

I'm sorry.....but the high commission of gamers have revoked your membership!.

Please move on......

2 games what prey tell were they. why do i have a feeling one was Fifa and the other was Pro evo.

Thats like saying you should only watch two films a year, or only one book. How can someone claim to be knowledgeable on any subject if they don't immerse themselves in it.

No suiv i'm not a pig i'm just an enthusiast and an actual gamer and once i've finished another dull shift at work i'll be off home to gorge myself on the delights of shadow complex before going to the cinema to see inglorious basterds, a film i've been waiting to see since it was first announced.

Only 2 games in the whole of 2008?

And you think your a gamer?

Sorry, but thats like being a footie fan and only watching 2 matches all season

Or calling yourself a surfer but only going out on the waves twice a year

Of all the great games released in 2008 you only bought 2?

Maybe that had something to do with the fact that you believe the PS3 is the only gaming machine worth owning and that everything else is 's**t' as you keep constanstly telling us.

No Suivaloom your not a gamer. Real gamers just play games, good games, no matter whether they are on a PS3, Xbox, Wii, Spectrum, Dreamcast, N64, PS2, Iphone, Freeware whatever...

It doesn't matter to real gamers, how they play their games because they are just in it for the fun of playing games.

You however are in it because you like having little childish 'my ps3 is better than your 360' arguments on an internet forum.

Me? I just like playing games, unlike you Suivaloom...
Posted by ricflair
He's bought a PS3 at or close to launch, which lost Sony a few hundred dollars, and he's got about six games. So far suiv has cost Sony a fair whack.

I'm sure he's bought plenty of stuff in Home to make up for it all.

His posts are so OTT, it's amazing. Does anyone really believe he is serious?

I purchased a couple 'o gems in 2008

now tis don't mean I only played 2 games in the year mentioned - a ludicrous and crass assumption

now I underlined the word purchased and it wer underlined clearly

But I understand that when you are idle and your dirty bodies are allowed to swelter in summer heat, phantasma in the mind is common

now I'm f*cking not gonna elucidate myself to the likes of you any further - HELL NO

So either accept that or continue your sinful display as a strumpet to your demon's box

Aw man, don't make me read through all of that...

Finally, I loved Fable 2 but when I had done absolutely everything I traded it in, so my question is how does the story take off if you have no save file anymore from Fable 2?

P.S: Jonathan Ross will be doing voice acting in Fable 3, I know this because he accidentally leaked this on Twitter lol :D

Wow, how can somebody possibly say there's nothing look forward to on the 360, or any console for that matter. I don't have a Wii or PS3 (can't afford them even though I want them), but there's a lot to look forward to on the 360:

Exclusive:

Halo 3: ODST
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Alan Wake
Mass Effect 2
Halo: Reach
Fable III

Multiplatform:

Assassin's Creed II
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Modern Warfare 2
Bioshock 2

Now that's 10 games of AAA quality to look forward to if I'm not mistaken. Not trying to be a fanboi here, just proving my point...
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
well i can do both these things on my current PS3, i wouldn't be able to on a slim.

I'm just not a fan of companies unnecessarily taking features away from consumers.

Its not new and exciting its a stripped out redesign. I'm just baffled by the move to remove the ability to install a seperate OS, as it was software based. Hows that going to effect manufacturing costs at all.

Its a lesser model trying to be pawned off as some great new thing. I just don't buy it. see
Posted by voodoo341
Does installing Linux make any difference to the ability to play games on it? Short answer... NO! In your predictions of all the things they were going to remove from the PS3 Slim you never once mentioned Linux and yet now it's an issue. I bet you've never even seen a PS3 with Linux installed never mind used one.
Posted by jazzy_p
no you're talking crap, look i can list stuff too.

Halo ODST: unless they totally revamp from 3 back to 1 with squad based combat, this will be the same as 3. beyond awful.

Conviction: See above

Alan Wake: Who the hell knows what this will be like and when it will come out

Mass Effect 2: Unless they break it, yeah it will be a great game.

Halo Reach: For all we know, this is a dating sim...come on now

Fable III: spare me.

Assassins Creed 2: It looks lovely, but does it play well and not have repetitive game play? Who knows?

Arkham Asylum: Apart from the close camera, we shall see if this does well.

Modern Warfare 2: ha ha ha ha ha....this game alone has caused so many problems for people who dont like FPSs...i'm sure it will be wonderful for those that do...but when it starts to effect other games release dates...

Bioshock 2: are you kidding me? Have you seen what they done to the story?

Now that 8 games we dont really know enough about to say, 1 which the demo is promising, and 1 which will be the same as the last one.

If you know any of those are 'AAA' titles (nice use of marketing lingo there...its a horrible term) then you are well ahead of the curve.

Dont count your chickens and dont bait.

What’s your problem little man? He said that he likes having Linux and backward compatibility, and that the PS3 Slim has neither, no where did he actually mention the games.

Just a little advice for you precious: before you are so quick to jump down peoples throats with your brash attitude perhaps you should actually read what they’ve written properly lest you look like a cantankerous cocknocker.

Err that came off a bit harsher than i meant it to..
Reading stupid posts make Hulk angry.

sorry about that

Wouldn't want to look like you at all Conkers. I'll question any post I want, that's the whole point of the site after all. If you don't like it don't read it.
Posted by Conkers
Indeed, I had meant to add kisses at the need to add kisses at the end to soften it slightly, though I see you avoided what I wrote by serving back a slight upon my character, that cuts me, cuts me deep man.

cuddles x

Whoopsie, double the kisses, must be because I like you! xxxxx

I didn't mention OS installation becasue i didn't see why it would be removed. Its noit a physical component of the system like having the components needed to run PS2 games was. It will actually effect the ability to play games on my PS3 because i've installed several emulators onto it so mine has its own little virtual console. Also if you're a clever monkey you can also install a PSone emulator onto it allowing your PS3 to be backwards compatible again. To a certain extent at least.

If you're going to spend money on a console you might as well try and get the most out of it. whether the manufacturreres wanted you too or not.

Its not going to effect its ability to play PS3 games, but my taates are more diverse than some.

@ conkers. thanks bud. your a mate.

FORUM SMASH!!!

Sorry man, I thought with the names you were calling, you thought name calling on a forum was a good way to insult people and didn't just make you look like a prat. Obviously I didn't see it as a form of love. I live and learn.
Posted by voodoo341
Why would you install a PS1 emulator on your PS3 when all PS3's are BC with the PS1?
Posted by Conkers
I said LEST you look like a cantankerous cocknocker, LEST!!!! You really should brush up on your reading comprehension there old chap.

Ah of course... you really didn't mean it. It's all clear now.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
state saving of course old bean. Being able to save your game whenever you want is a rather handy feature.
Posted by Conkers
No, I most certainly meant it, do you not understand the meaning of the word ‘lest’?
Posted by voodoo341
you're right.. it's a system seller, silly Sony.
Posted by voodoo341
I was talking about the name calling.

Hmm, we appear to be going round in circles, for the last time: I said you should really read things properly before jumping up at a comment *LEST* you look like a cantankerous cocknocker.

If that is not clear enough for you this time please refer to a dictionary instead. Thanks.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
didn't say it was. Then again so far nothings been a definate system seller for the ps3!
Posted by voodoo341
To be honest Conkers I don't really care what you meant or didn't mean. In fact I'd have to take the time to read back through this post to see you're going on about now but I can't really be bothered. Sorry.
Posted by voodoo341
I can say the same thing about the Wii but then again that's my opinion and wouldn't apply to everyone else.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
no what i said was pretty much fact. what you said is wrong. There are appps on the wii that are definate system sellers becasue the things been selling like the clappers since it first released. the PS3 is still sitting dead last in the sales figures.

Whether you like the apps that have made the wii so popular on the other hand is opinion.
Posted by Conkers
That's ok, why change the habit of a lifetime!
Posted by voodoo341
It's my opinion, how's it wrong? You just don't agree with it. Just because you think there's no system sellers on the PS3 doesn't mean other people think the same. I, like quite a few people bought a PS3 for Uncharted. System seller to me.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
it was one of the first games i got for my PS3 too. stonking game.

However It wasn't a system seller. Hell it didn't even sell that well. None of Sony's exclusives to date have.

The wii fit on the otherhand, has. by the bucketload it is a system seller whether you like it or not.

Its not opinion its fact.

I know you have a tough time figuring out the difference between the two but using the tripartite definition of a fact. Wii fit is a system seller is. Unchartered isn't.
Posted by voodoo341
Bloody hell! You're like Wiigodboy.

In my opinion the Wii has NOTHING that makes me want to buy it. It has no system seller for me or I'd own one. In my opinion the PS3 had in the form of Uncharted so I bought a PS3. Just because you say the PS3 has no system sellers doesn't mean every one thinks the same.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
but this isn't a matter of opinion. Whether a game can be considered a system seller can be quantified.

Mine or your opinion of what makes a good game or what game swayed you to buying whatever system has nothing to do with it.

Its basically a matter of how many of x game were solved compared to how many of x machines have been. around its release date and after that. comprising some kind ofdeduction about attache rates from this information could also deduce whether something could be considered a system seller. although it would probably just gage how successful a title has been.

Commercially Uncharted wasn't a system seller, you yourself may have felt inclinded to by a PS3 for it, like i was to buy a 360 for bioshock. or a wii for twighlight princess. But where it really matter is in cool hard numbers. and it didn't do what it was meant to.
Posted by Little Moth
Yeah, I think you need to calm down man. Also, I don't give a flying **** what you think of these games because I'm looking forward to them and that's what matters.

So, at least "I" will have something to play.
Posted by voodoo341
It's entirely a matter of opinion as to what's a system seller! Uncharted sold me the PS3... system seller in my opinion. You haven't a single point of evidence to say that a million other people out there didn't buy the PS3 on the strength of Uncharted.
Posted by jazzy_p
[quoteYeah, I think you need to calm down man. Also, I don't give a flying f**k what you think of these games because I'm looking forward to them and that's what matters.

No its not what matters, it may be what matters to you, but that is highly irrelevant, and does not have any bearing on whether the games will be of a decent quality or not...that was the point i was trying to make. Just because you are looking forward to them does not make them good. Listing stuff on a forum to prove your point also makes you look like a fanboy, which is something i doubt you are, nevertheless you were baiting.

By all means, look forward to them..but until released do not state they are anything more than interesting.

And there is no need to be rude.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
Oh but i do. If somebodies going to rush aout and buy a system based on the strength of a game they are more than likely going to do it within the first couple months of its release. within those two months the game only sold just over 300,000 copies worldwide. conversley sales of the PS3 peaked at 523,000 a month after the game was released. Around about the same time a certain COD4 came onto the market.

there you go evidence it wasn't a system seller, and more over that a million people probably didn't also buy the system for it.

Shame really, bloody brilliant game. Lost the plot a little at the end i thought with that virus thing. but otherwise fantastic.

Speaking of new games, I saw retail copies of "Wolfenstein" on the shelves of two different stores yesterday despite the official release day being today. My pre-ordered copy has shipped but I have yet to see a CVG review of it.

Proof that I bought a PS3 to play Uncharted 2 or proof to prove that he can't say no one bought a PS3 for Uncharted 2?

We weren't talking about the sequel though were we. We were talking about the original. Drake's Fortune.

all my evidence came from vgcharts.com
Posted by voodoo341
Oh me bad.. I put a 2 in there

Still doesn't change my point. You can't say Uncharted wasn't a system seller as you don't speak for the 3+ million that bought the game. You don't know if 10 people or 1 million people bought a PS3 just to play Uncharted. Just because it wasn't a system seller for you doesn't mean it wasn't for other people. Wii Fit can sell 100 million units for all I care, it still doesn't make it a system seller in my opinion or I'd have bought a Wii already.

(watching Voodoo and Monkey arguing)

...I like Fable.

Evading the heart of the matter as per usual I see, Voodoo. You questioned Monkey about his proof that "Uncharted", for example, wasn't a system seller for the PS3. Since you brought up the matter of proof to support an argument I returned the favour and asked where's your proof that "Uncharted" was a system seller for the PS3 overall and not just for you as one individual. So how about it? Proof, if you please.

P.S. Using "Uncharted 2" as the measuring stick seems premature considering the game isn't even out yet and that presumably many current PS3 owners bought the console before any official announcement that "Uncharted 2" was to be in the works.
Posted by The_KFD_Case
Which is precisely the point: You don't know that the opposite is true either. If you did you would have little trouble proving it. Incidentally this also demonstrates that you were fully aware of what was being referenced too previously when you were asked for proof of your claims. Disingenuous as always and how disgusting it is.
Posted by voodoo341
Right so I give proof that proves that what Monkey didn't prove isn't proof. /facepalm

Thou shall not have an opinion that doesn't agree with the xbot clowns. If you find my posts disingenuous and disgusting  don't read them.
Posted by MrPirtniw
I thought Monkey was more a Nintendophile?
Posted by The_KFD_Case
Since you insist upon being obtuse (or alternatively, you really are stupid), I'll spell it out for you.

1. Monkey stated that "Uncharted" wasn't a system seller in terms of hard sales figures compared to "Wii Fit".

2. You stated that he couldn't be sure that "Uncharted" wasn't a system seller for the PS3 since he didn't have any figures to indicate whether people who own a PS3 bought it for "Uncharted" or not.

3. I challenged you to prove that "Uncharted" was a system seller for PS3 as you alluded to. In other words, I asked the same of you that you were asking of Monkey. The door swings both ways.

4. You engaged in your usual ass-clown antics resulting in a lot of hissing and spitting, but at the end of the day revealing once more a toothless lion.

Now do you get it, or do I have to bring out the kiddies' "learn-how-to-read" books? It's your call.
Posted by ParmaViolet
Mein gott....this is a rather pedantic little argument we're having here, isn't it?

If you ask me (I know, you aren't), the term 'System Seller' would refer to a title that would lead to a spike in console sales on its' release - so, Halo for 360, GT5 for PS3, Mario Kart for Wii....I think most people would agree with that definition. It's definitely an over-used term and really doesn't apply to an awful lot of games at all.

Oh and Mr. Pirtniw - Nintendophile?...just what are you accusing Monkey of??

... Sexual abuse in Mario land... could work. Peach is hot I guess. But I'd only be thinking of Koopa.
