Now Microsoft have got to announce something similar as there is no way they can get away with a price hike Gosh. I don't know about anyone else but I never in a million years saw this comming! :roll: So if we take into account the Euro to pound conversion which alot of companies seem to be doing nowadays, the PS3 slim will be priced around £259 over here. Not the drop in price alot of people were hoping for, but it was what I was expecting. Hardly the same price. shadowsblaze you do realise that the dollar to pound rate at the mo is, correct me if im wrong, around 0.6324. Surely that would then sit the UK cost at around £189 - knowing Sony they'd boost it up abit but I'd say it'll be about £199 - £220.
Sounds tasty for a new buyer. thats better... it looks like something i'd actually want to own. now if it was just £50 cheaper, it'd be my next big buy. it was that first "fake" ps3 slim released. looks cheap and nasty compared to the big ones.

In the US they are now the same price, and in my experience most fanboys are American. Both are $299. what a load of rubbish eh ? all that just for an extra 40gb and £50 quid off ... really ground breaking... not :roll: Businesses seem to be using the Euro to Pound ratio rather than the Dollar to Pound ratio. At the moment you get 1.16 Euros for every pound. That would bring the console over here to £257. But it would seem Sony have rounded it down to £249. My guess is that they have more faith in the pound gaining strength over the next few months than what Activision or Microsoft has. And..tomorrow it's all going to start up again, when Microsoft announce the 120GB Xbox 360 Elite price drop, at their press conference. :) PS3 Slim & Fugly. dont think this can stand on its side :?
looks horrendous, shame the fats will be phased out in favour of this cheap version. But can you still swap the HDD for a decent one? And are they ever going to put back in the much needed backwards compatability - or at least sell PS2 games online for cheap? they're supplying a seperate stand if you want to put it on it's side... When I first saw the top down photo, it looked dead flat! That would be an odd design, kind of like bathroom scales.

Looking at the photos there does seems to be a compartment in the front underneath the blu-ray drive. I wonder if that's where the hard drive has been moved to? As someone else posted, I too reckon the HDD will go in the front where all the logos are located on the bottom right hand side (under the BR drive).
I personally like the look of this revision. If this does end up being £199 I'll be snapping one up straight away. Although I suspect that Sony won't drop the price to that point for another 6-9 months at least. He asked me if the 360 was 'something his son would enjoy' so I informed the old badger of the high failure rate of the console
I said 'come back tomorrow' because 'the PS3 would be getting a price cut' and that 'the PS3 is future proof and can play Blu ray movies'
The coffin dodger thanked me for my advice and shuffled around the store for a few minutes more looking adled and confused and I watched him out of the corner of my eye
eventually he left and I'm convinced he'll be picking up a PS3 instead of a 360
Now these sorts of conversations must be going on up and down the country as there is completely no merit at all in buying an xblock now that teh price increase and the PS3 120GB HDD is so cheap and has an unbeatable line-up/free-PSN, blu-ray - blu-tooth etc etc yip yip

if you can't comprehend that, you can p*ss off outta my forums here I've always said I'd get another one (to replace the one I sold) when they drop to £199. Some of us don't have the extra cash laying around as we have the responsibility of feeding our families, paying mortgages and bills, etc.
Try doing that and then complaining about people being cheap. First thing on my agenda is to make sure my family are able to LIVE before spending any of my hard earned cash on something that quite frankly isn't as important, you ****ing moron. As an owner of all three consoles, you'll find:-
The Xbox 360 will be your number one console, due to some great exclusives, a better online service and a far better user interface. The console will go wrong once, but be replaced by Microsoft within a week and will be played intently from then on.
The PS3 will feel special for the first 2 weeks, you'll play Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Heavenly sword and Metal Gear (as these are the exclusives you bought the console for), then you'll realise the console is a users nightmare and you miss Xbox Live. The PS3 will then sit gathering dust until it's next decent exclusive release (uncharted 2).
The Wii will sit alone on the side and be brought out on special family occasions (birthdays etc) to enable the elders to feel they are at the forefront of "TellyGames" by playing bowling on Wii Sports.

No doubt sales will increase, I see that as a good thing, as long as they don't stop making games for the 360 (and they didn't stop making games for PS3 while it's been trailing the 360 in terms of sales, so I have no reason to think they will), then I'm happy. As you should be happy as MS have forced Sony to up their game as this gen as progressed.

I doubt anyone at Sony will ever admit that the whole launch, design and marketing of PS3 initially was a complete f00k up, and a massive mis-judgement, but they are slowly making amends.
Now if they'd just put the PS2 chipset back in it so it's 100% BC, and actually release GT5, they might shift a few more of them. interested to see if the stand adds a little something to it. it would look shit lying down horizontally.

sorry I'll keep my 80gig PS3 n put a bigger HD in, and my 360 Elite. My 360 will still get by far much more use due to the fact that my hands are not deformed to the Sony design which they seem to have STUPIDLY stuck to! That seems like a better deal than what has previously come from Sony in regards to the PS3. If the price difference between the slim PS3 and Xbox 360 Elite will truly only be 20 quid then in terms of features the PS3 slim outguns the Xbox 360 Elite, IMO. I have a hard time seeing how MS will realistically be able to justify a similar price tag short of some truly mind boggling viral marketing.
My main complaint is the usual BS "Oh, the-dollar-symbol-suddenly-turns-into-the-euro-or-pound-sterling-symbol-but-the-numbers-remain-unchanged"! Yeah, yeah, I'm well aware different countries have different economic levels and thus some places will have different prices, but there is a real term cost which would mean that in some regions of the world some products shouldn't be sold if the local economy is not robust enough. P.S. Oh Suivaloom, if you really think that MS will be brought to its knees by its Xbox department then you are truly beyond saving. The Xbox console market is not what drives the vast majority of MS's profits. Now, should Windows 7 flop spectacularly then MS might have something to worry about. Microsoft have clearly brain washed consumers into thinking the xbox is "better value" Er, isn't the current rumour that as well as a bit of a hike in price of the Arcade, there will in fact be a reduction in the price of the Elite too? As a games console, 360 is better value(cheaper £).
When you consider the complete package and it's features, PS3 is better value.
I'd like to see the PS3 drop to £199.99 within 6 months to really see what sales figures PS3 can achieve.

But in all fairness I think it has been better value as a games console until the price cut (although if you HAVE to have wireless, the £59 RRP for the adaptor is daylight robbery). I'm guessing MS will have to drop the price of the Elite. Or they could just sort out the over heating and quieten it down a tad, but that's wishful thinking.
Considering you can get a PS3 and over £50 worth of (good) games for £250, the £200 argument is pretty thin now I think.
Although Sony could have 'brainwashed' some customers if they'd actually bothered to advertise the damn thing and it's games. If they don't push it in the mainstream at this price point, I would really wonder that is up with them.

Personally I'm curious to see if there are any noticeable differences between the chubby and the slim PS3 once gamers get their hands on the PS3 slim in order to put it through its paces. On paper they appear to be identical albeit the PS3 slim has significantly improved hardware specs in regards to size, heat and energy consumption. I'm still no fan of Sony but my hat's off to them for successfully pulling off such an overhaul. it looks like a free view box or a cable tv box from like 10 years ago the top looks like the plastic on a car dashboard its fugly Looking at the pics, i dont see any access to upgrade the hard drive. I can only guess its at the bottom panel where you gotta pull out the surface grip pads to unscrew the panel off. if that the case not too pleased.

I play my PS3 the most out of them all as I think it has better games for it. I feel that the 360 offers games that I have played time and time again. The PS3 offers games that are new and different. Halo is ok, but PS3 has killzone. PS3 has LBP(Flower, Locoroco, etc), what does 360 have like that? My PS3 has 320gig HDD space and around 60 PS1 games from the UK/USA/JAP PSN stores. What classic import games can I get for 360 to then transfer to a portable device (PSP) to play on the move? I think the PS3 offers new types of games and new ways to play old ones.
I use my 360 as a film rental system as it is really good for that. I dont like the user interface though, I think its an in-your-face graphical mess.

Can't say I am too keen on the new look. I need to see it in person though first to make a proper judgement. The screenshots are not the brightest. But if it makes it cheaper, then you can't really complain. It looks like it can fit snugly under your sky box.
Edit: They have now changed to clearer screenshots now. Looks better from the vid and new screenies. From my standpoint, yes. I bought a PC and an Xbox 360 to play games. I accept that doesn't grant me access to all games and I'm okay with that. Now, if you prefer one set of exclusives over another that's your prerogative. There are PS3 exclusives I find potentially interesting, but a handful of exclusives on either system is not a good enough reason for me to buy a different console, IMO. Yours may differ and that's fine.
Since both systems have games that appeal to me, and share a lot of the same games, other factors such as pricing at the time of purchase (I got a very good deal on a Jasper chipset Xbox 360 Pro bundled with two games at the time), what my gaming requirements were/are (ex. I don't care about online wireless gaming for the Xbox 360 and thus those costs do not come in to play for me), gamepads, which company I like/dislike more than the other and why, etc. come in to play. Some people will never be satisfied.
No point in trading in a 360 as you'll get sod all for it. If you have to, trade in the games and keep the console for the 360 exclusives.

Just buy the Xbox360 shaped PC controller and you're happy I'm more upset with how crap M$ are frankly. I'm sick of their service. The constant hardware faults are mere icing on the cake. However it looks like the 360 is getting a price cut as well. I don't think I really see the point in smaller versions of consols, unless they have more features.
My PS3 sits fine underneath my tv. I see more of a point for handhelds, because handhelds are better if they are small, in general because they need to be mobile and need to be able to fit into your pocket ext. But, this sought of thing is just money grabbing really. Well, I guess it is probably aimed at people that don't already have a PS3, but, still. Id rather pay £24 for something thats amazing and complete with all the features than have something shit for free. however some arguments do get old! If it's 18 months old you won't be getting your money back I'm afraid. And that's not MS, that's just the way it is.
My £1,200 guitar amp died after about 15 months and I still had to pay Fender to fix the damn thing. And a couple of months after I bought it they upped the guarantee to 24 months!
The RRoD sucks, you have to pay for XBL and OTT for a wireless adaptor. Surely you should have known that before you bought it?? I do.
I pay nothing for PSN.
Why? I have both and I'm not seeing much of a gap.
* The famous cross game voice chat is cruddy 8Khz on XBL. On PSN in game voice chat is 11Khz minimum (on a standard Bluetooth headset) and rises to 16Khz with the official headset with HQ mode on.
* Online magazines? PSN has Pulse and Core.
* Online gaming? Free on PSN.
* Demos? Maybe the X360 is still a little ahead there as it gets demos for every game, but the PSN does continue to get different demos across regions. Frankly despite having access to XBL demos, I don't download and play them all. I don't have enough hours in the day... Sometimes you might have to go to another region to get a PSN demo. No big deal, certainly nothing really missed or lost that's really worth paying for.
* Themes, avatars, etc..? The PSN + Home has these and is getting more.
* Video store - coming to PSN over here, already in the USA.
* Music, TV... Vidzone & other players either on or coming to PSN.
What else is there that XBL offers? Seriously. What else? The XBL argument is wearing thinner and thinner. In fact it's really not that easy anymore to justify having to pay - unless you're stuck with a X360 and have NO OTHER CHOICE. If that's your problem, fair dues, but that's not a problem for other people so you shouldn't be using it as an argument.

Yep and there's still plenty of XBots & PS3 fans who have argued for over a year and are still willing to argue, so lets keep at it, eh! :) so PSN is free, like most things in life you get what you pay for. PSN is a poormans XBL and you know it. the amount of time it takes to download anything and the inability to download content while playing games shows its inadequecies.
Also having a pysical connection is always gaoing to be more stable than wirelaess, so if your 360 or PS£ is close to the router, why bother.
I've also seen a gneral decrease in the cost of the wireless dongle for the 360 if you really want one you can get one for £20-£30 if you shop around.
It sort of balances out between the PS3 and the 360 because under the hood technically the PS3 is better, however as far as user interface and online functionality is concerned the 360 wins out.

That's subjective. My downloads are always fast on both XBL and PSN.
Actually, I find that when I want to view my game saves, or do other certain things on my X360 whilst playing a game - I'm unable to do so without quitting the game first. That's the same as on the PS3, but maybe with some different features being enabled / disabled. You certainly shouldn't be boasting about anything at all there, the X360 has its own issues multitasking.

I've had Xbox360 for about 3 trouble free years (not one problem). I obviously paid a lot less than i would have if i bought a PS3. I have had 3 years of great gaming fun while PS3 owners have been saying how good their machine is but not actually having FUN!!
some fanboy PS3 owners seem to be bitter over paying all that money for a machine that (did) have fewer games, so they bring up their trump card.. the Xbox ring of death.. It is a big problem with the old models, but this has been mostly eradicated with later models. And I also hear that PS3 are not the most reliable machines either, much like the ps2.
Also are people sad enough that they can't wait a couple of weeks without a games console because its in repair.
PS3 owners claim its a more powerful machine.. maybe it is, but if the games released look almost exactly the same as the 360 whats the point in paying more for that small privilege. And also isn't that power just going to waste!!
Another thing PS3 owners mention is that it's future proof. 10 year life span and all that. Well thats great, but i'm sure in that time Microsoft will release their 720 console which will be far superior to PS3. Yes that does mean having to buy another console but i'm sure i can save up in that time.
I do think PS3 has alot of advantages over the xbox3. The quieter fan, free online gaming, blueray etc. And am looking to buy one when the price lowers and more games are released.

WTF are you talking about? Xbox owners are scared? Oooooh, Sony have released a Lidl version of their incredibly popular console, so we should be running for the hills? I play my Xbox more because I prefer it. My PS3 plays Blu-Ray's. That's it. Because the network sucks, not being able to communicate with my friends like I do on Live sucks, the Xbox pad is better and to be perfectly honest everyone I know owns and loves their 360, so when it comes to multiplayer sesh's, there is only one choice.
You go ahead and play your PS3's if that's what you prefer, but I don't think a miniscule price cut and Happy Meal 'slim' model are going to worry Microsoft or Nintendo just yet.

First of all I want to just say I own a PS3, one of the original 60GB versions with a 250GB HDD. It does me very well and I have no intentions of changing it. I do not consider myself a FANBOY in any way, I'm over 30 yrs old and could afford all 3 consoles if I wanted.
I think we are at a turning point in the current console wars based upon Sony's price drop and PS3 slim release. It is now going to cost in the UK approx £250 for a PS3 slim, and £230 for an XBOX360 Elite. The xbox comes with a headset and an HDMI cable which the PS3 does not have. The PS3 comes with a Blu-Ray drive built in. On top of that the PS3 is the system with the most power, therefore most future potential. I feel these are the reasons that we will now see a marked shift in the market towards Sony's offering.
Now I know that XBOX has the larger games catalogue and more AAA titles and all that. But to be honest how many video games do we actually buy for our systems ? Probably somewhere between 10 and 20 would be average. So why do you need a catalogue of 1000s of games just to choose 20 over a 5 yr period? I don't really see the massive benefit in quoting the catalogue of games as a serious reason for people to opt for a 360, unless of course they are a hardcore gamer, but surely if they were they'd be into the next gen already?
We're about to see Sony open up the market place to the non-hardcore gamer, tech-gadget fan with cash to spend. ie the 20 something - 30 something bracket,I.E. where the money is.
I think we will see PS3 become the primary console of choice across most living rooms from this point forward, with the XBOX 360 filling the role as a secondary "toy" IF they drop the price massively to about £100 or so. At over £200 as it stands currently, I just can't see how it can compete with the PS3 any more.
To be honest I wouldn't mind buying a 360 as a secondary system one day, but not until they sort out that RROD nonsense (whats all that about?) and half the price of the system to around the £100 pound mark, then I'd have one, but not before.

The refund would be carried out by the shop as it's under story warranty. This lasts until next January. I got it extended the second time I had to return a console. It does however they are generally things that most people don't care too much for while gaming. I will say this though, can you Download extra content and play a game at the same time on the PS3? the answer is at present NO.
Can you play music on the PS3 while gaming? the answer again is at present No.

basic easy functions the PS3 doesn't do. Pretty much the poor machines whole sad story to date. So much potenetial it just doesn't use. I don't know about that since I don't use the XBL service. Like you I frown upon paying an additional fee to play online when I'm already paying for the internet connection. That said, the same logic in regards to an argument being old, tired and worn out can be applied to the BR functions of the PS3. This is in light of the fact that BR has so far failed to set the world on fire in terms of adoption rates and that it is not a necessary component if one is primarily looking to play games on a console.

On the PS3 if you start a download then start playing a game, the download gets paused. As soon as you exit the game, the download resumes. Personally, I don't see either as an advantage or disadvantage...

* If I arranged my X360 to download a series of demos and programmes, then I get an online game invite, start the game & find my game is inexcusably lagged - there's no way for me to quickly bail out of my downloads while all that's going on. On the PS3 this isn't an issue as the download is paused and resumes when I quit the game. If I go off to do something else - I can leave it downloading. On the other hand, if it's just a single small file or I'm playing 1p, then the X360 has the advantage that I can nip and get that quickly without disrupting my game much. Neither system therefore really has an overall advantage.

The number of times I've gone to start a game whilst being logged into XBL, only to have the game notify me that it needs to download some patch just because the game's been hacked recently... Game Informer's survey of 5,000 console owners finds over half Microsoft's machines fail once, 41.2% fail twice; 10.6% of PS3s, 6.8% of Wiis also reported defective.
When it extended the Xbox 360's warranty to three years, Microsoft admitted the Xbox 360's failure rate was unacceptable. However, despite covering both the "Red Ring of Death" and E74 errors, the company has never admitted exactly how often its console suffers from technical problems or manufacturing defects.
Now, Game Informer magazine has conducted a survey of 5,000 subscribers to find out how often consoles conk out. The September issue of the Minnesota-based, GameStop-owned magazine features the results of the survey, which found that a whopping 54.2 percent of Xbox 360 owners surveyed reported having the console fail on them once. Apply that figure to the platform's 30 million-unit installed base, and the result is 15.72 million failed consoles.
Perhaps more damning, 41.2 percent of 360 owners had a second hardware malfunction--meaning that potentially 12.36 million people have had their consoles fail again. Some 36.4 percent of 360 owners reported having to buy a second console, versus 13.4 percent of PS3 owners and 8.4 percent of Wii owners. Also, Game Informer found that 69.9 percent of respondents said they had at least one friend who had a Xbox 360 cease working. Nonetheless, only 3.8 percent of respondents said that the 360's hardware failures convinced them to not buy a replacement console from Microsoft.
By comparison, 10.6 percent of PlayStation 3 owners reported a failure, with 14.7 percent reporting a second hardware problem. The Wii was the most reliable, with a 6.8 percent failure rate and an 11 percent secondary failure rate. However, the Wii's low numbers may also be due to the fact it's the least played of the three consoles. Some 41.4 percent of Wii owners said they played it for less than an hour per day on average. By contrast, 40.3 percent of Xbox 360 owners played for 3-5 hours per day, and 37.3 percent of PS3 owners played 3-5 hours per day.
Game Informer also asked respondents about their experiences with the three platform-holders' customer service departments. Again, Nintendo came out on top, with 56.1 percent of respondents saying they were "very satisfied" with their experiences. Sony was close behind with a 51.1 percent satisfaction rate, followed by Microsoft with a 37.7 percent satisfaction rate.
Now no-one is going to buy a 360 over a cutting edge PS3 Slim that's for sure

Yes, 'fraid so. In efforts to (hopefully) reduce the Elite's price through offering 'equivalent' value, M$ is removing the HDMI cable from the bundle. Seems fair to me - in a way - though. From an argumentative bundle vs bundle perspective, people won't be able to boast that getting a HDMI cable in the box is a better reason to buy a X360 (or not buy a PS3)! I was just merely comparing features, Not my fault the 360 has better online functionality is it.
I also said in an earlier post that the PS3 beats the 360 when it comes to media playback.
Its swings and roundabouts my friend qand theres no point in Obsessing over one console rather than the other as you do. Therefore considering its so tight nit between the 360 and the PS3. even more so than ever with rtecent events it really is going to come down to what you play more than what you play it on. personally it hink i'm going to be playing more wii exclusives in the coming months than the 360 and PS3. then from what i've heard of the lineup for the PS3 next year i'll be playing on that more. However for the last couple of years its safe to say the 360 has definately held my attention more.

I'm willing to give BR a try once the average movie prices drop further and come closer to current DVD prices. There's no rush. I don't question that it's superior tech image quality wise and I do like the notion of not having 4 DVDs to switch between during a JRPG on my Xbox 360 (that wouldn't bother me as much on my PC where I sit right next to the tower as opposed to sitting across the living room from the console beneath the TV).
Charging 30 or 40 quid for an HDMI cable seems ludicrous to me no matter whom the vendor is. I bought a brand new one of Amazon for under 2 quid. Sold! :) :lol: Come now. The point, I reckon, is that it's now cheaper for Sony to produce the PS3 - albeit the "slim" version - thus granting them greater leeway in terms of pricing which could, and seems bound to, lead to lower prices. Lower prices is likely to entice more potential customers to consider the PS3 over its competitors; this is similar to the way MS aggressively marketed the Xbox 360 with much lower prices than the PS3 prices of old. The Elite and PS3 prices are now within £10 of each other, PS3's Blu-Ray drive and Microsoft's continuing reliability problems may prove to be more than enough to push gamers towards Sony's machine.

However, MS has bigger worries at present what with the ongoing lawsuit by the Canadian company i4i that successfully filed a junction against MS for being in breach of one of its patents on some technology that's in Word. MS has 60 days to remove it and are trying to buy more time while having the US patent office examine the claims *and* appealing on humanitarian grounds that the removal of Word would be catastrophic for both private individuals and businesses given the widespread use of Word (which, let's face it, it probably would be). All of this has a deadline just before the release of Windows 7 which could complicate matters even further barring an extension of the deadline by the US courts and/or an out of court settlement. Buy an xbox and you then need to buy live gold for 25-40 quid to play with your mates, thus putting the ps3 and xbox in the same price range.

But would like to say that I'm no fanboy. Have a Wii and Ps3 but I just dont like the exclusives on Xbox. The reason why I got the wii was for the 1st Party core games like Galaxy nd Twilight Princess. But I love WiiSports and WiiFit
And Ps3 for Ratchet and Clank, Little Big Planet, INfamous, GOD OF WAR 3!!! and the new team ico game. Much prefer the PS3 pad aswell my average non stubby hand fits nicely around it haha i am slightly disappointed as i was expecting a hefty price drop not a minor one or is a proper price drop coming soon?
£250 is the same price or there abouts of the old 40gb model isnt it? i know this has more hd space but disks are cheap and 40gb is still twice what my 360 has so i'd be happy with that.
the machine itself is no problems, i dont care how it looks so long as it works properly and plays all the games.
looks like i still ownt be getting one for a while :( I think the problem Sony have at the moment is that they have to convince people to either trade in or buy a second console.
Considering things are on the up eccomomy wise. but not much and seeing as 90% of the current gens library of games are multiplatform with no clear differences in quality. Why change consoles.
The only ray of hope in this connundrum is that there are no doubt a large number of distgruntled 360 owners out there. Actually, I've seen that Tescos are clearing their 40Gb PS3s for £200....I guess you'd need to find a branch with stock, but that's a good deal in anyones' book.
:) And Wii owners...and people who want a Bluray console to show off their TV's... most wii owners that are gamers already own a second console. the others won't bother. because they bought the console so they could play 'the bowling game' and wii fit. As much as it sickens me. But i'm not getting into the whole wii has a huge selection of decent games debate again.
If you just wanted a blu ray player, your average consumer would just get one by itself. considering you can pick one up for around £100 mark. its not really that much of touted feature anymore its just a nice added bonus. People won't be trading in to get a ps3, if that is sony's wish, because the shops aren't yet (at least) reducing the price of preowned consoles. Even then, i doubt you would get even a preowned 40gb (if you can find one) for less than £200 - if that. Still the elite 360 with 3x the hard drive space will be cheaper.
I'd happily trade my 360 in if I could find a good deal, but I'm not stupid enough to just trade it in for the sake of getting a ps3. I walked past a Gamestation the other day and caught the trade-in deals that were being offered....they do look pretty awful and I doubt many take them up on it.
Still, I think that the 360s' reliability issues may have something to do with that - I would expect most would be a little wary about taking on a second hand 360....I know I'd certainly look to pick up a brand new (Jasper) model, if I didn't already own one.
The prices will go down though - if I were you, I'd look to sell the 360 privately (to maximise the price you recieve) and then pick up a PS3 on a special offer (maybe a pre-owned one after the price-cut is in effect, or one of the clearance deals that are popping up).

Alternatively you could always just sell the games you have for it. They'll probably get more in trade in then the console anyway.
Then on the offchance anything something comes out for it you want you'll still have the system and a PS3. I'd like to add here that my first PS3 was purchased as the result of four red-ring incidents.
My 360 was 6 months out of warranty but MS agreed to send me a replacement in lieu of the three year warranty extension. However, after about a week with my replacement I decided I’d have a go on Gears and upon trying it the just game wouldn’t work.
Having tried three more copies I came to the conclusion that it was a fault with the console – a quick look on google confirmed it to be a common problem.
Best part was that when I called up MS the barstewards explained that I was out of warranty and as the extended warranty didn’t cover this fault it would cost me 140 quid to get fixed! My argument was that surely you can't send me a faulty console and then charge me for its repair a week later!
Unfortunately, they wouldn't budge so I packed it up and got my long overdue revenge on GAME by px/ing it against a brand new PS3. :D
EDIT: Was indirectly replying to Parma's post. Not just bashing the 360 btw. I've just spent too much of my 'bored at work' time reading similar posts all revolving around hatred. Each to his own and all that jazz, just think what you will and continue to argue, I'll leave you to it.

I'm going back a few posts here, but what you say about PSN downloads isn't entirely true. The background download only stops if you're playing online or if on a game with online features enabled.
And as for slow download speeds, that's utter rubbush. I've got 10MB Virgin broadband and downloaded the Arkham Asylum demo in 8 minutes. My brother, on the same net connection, had his 360 Arkham Asylum demo take over 30 minutes. Don't ask me why, it just did. The speed factor should not be used as an argumentative point if it purely depends on the connection you've paid for! @WHERESMYMONKEY
Sh!t bud I didn't read the post from the other dude, didn't realise it wasn't you who provoked my above reply. Apologies. Anyways at least we agree. So when does the PSOne come out? I can appreciate your frustration. Personally I have had no problems whatsoever playing Gears 2 on my Japser-chipset Xbox 360. I'm glad I decided not to bite the bullet early on and instead waited until the Xbox 360 had some of its design problems ironed out. It could still RRoD yet so far, so good! just keep it in a well ventialted area is my best advice. I think what doesn't help with a lot of them getting RRoD. Is that they are kept in very confined spaces.
I wouldn't stick mine anywhere near my PS3 either. You could fry an egg on it at times. It doesn't over heat its just bloody hot. Sound advice. I keep my Xbox 360 on the second (upper,) shelf on my TV entertainment stand. I can feel it intake cool air and blow out moderately warm/hot air at the back when it's been active for a while. Nothing to worry about. In idle mode it's still warm air but much less so. Keeping the side air intakes unobstructed along with plenty of clearance at the exhaust areas is key for any cooling/heating system be it a console, a PC, or other climate control system.
P.S. Note that the TV entertainment center I use is open (i.e. it has the structure bearing legs with the platforms interspersed at even intervals without any side nor front panels and a diminished "spine" at the back), thus granting it plenty of free airflow. cant believe this article has generated this many comments, its still just a PS3.... Yeah, mine is kept up on a high shelf and the closest thing to it is a DVD player.
Having said that - this is my third 360. The first one stopped reading discs, but it was still on the retailer warranty (HMV were very good about it too), so I got that exchanged....unluckily for me, the replacement RRoD'd literally a week later (again, HMV were very good - I felt like they probably would think that I was doing something to them).
Still, this one seems to be absolutely fine - I think installing games is a god-send (mine's an Elite, so I don't have to worry about space too much).
Having said that, my brother has a launch model that is still going strong....not a peep out of it. In a lot of ways, it's luck of the draw.
:) Have you been looking in through my windows?? Apart from not playing Horde for a while, that's basically my 360 gaming for the last fortnight or so (been going through Halo 3 in co-op, much more fun than single player).
Although I only got to play Shadow Complex for two minutes. The reviews for that game are pretty impressive so far. haha- yeah, I'm afraid I maybe stalking you in between gaming sessions. If you fancy some campaign Halo 3 send us a note- gamertag = mrpirtniw (of course). Can never seem to find co-op players online for some reason. I get that problem too. Everyone wants to play death match but no one cares for the campain. |
