8 Big E3 Rumours

Games and hardware speculation set for next week
E3 2009 is just one week away. With internet blogging and Twitter growing even larger - and game exec's mouths getting looser - it's easier than ever to predict what we'll be seeing in the headlines come the week of June 1.

If you read the internet on a regular basis then none of this will be news (or rumour and speculation) to you. But where there's smoke there's a PR person writing a press release. We'll update the list after E3 so see who wins; fact or fiction.

Kojima's new game
Old Hideo's been busy teasing his next game on the internet this month, and there's a lot of talk that it could (finally) turn out to be an updated version of Metal Gear Solid 4 for Xbox 360. Kojima's not heading just one game at the moment though, an increased speculation has spiralled from his discussions over working with a Western developer. Could we see two games from the MGS man in the next year?

XBLA Retro Explosion
Xbox Live Arcade's 2009 line-up is already off to a brilliant start with Monkey Island and Wolfenstein both having leaked onto the net. But we've heard that even more retro goodness is due to grace the service, with internet reports claiming that the original Perfect Dark - and perhaps even more Rare classics - are on the way. We're holding out for Killer Instinct like the rest of you. Until then keep your eyes on Microsoft's press conference for anything to do with this.

Crackdown 2
Speculation's been mounting that Microsoft could be plotting a follow-up to its rooftop-hopping cop game Crackdown. The chatter began when many of Crackdown's original developers left to form Microsoft-linked studio Ruffian games, and MS only fuelled speculation further with the release of a Premium NXE Crackdown theme this month. A new dashboard theme for a two year old game? Why on earth would they do that? Unless...

PSP Go!
The impending PSP redesign is perhaps the worst kept hardware secret yet. Reports citing the revision have been cropping up all year, but the most recent claims that 'PSP Go!' will be unveiled at E3 with 16GB of built-in flash memory, a new sliding screen and the removal of the UMD drive entirely. This sounds on the money to us, keep your eyes on Sony's E3 press conference.

Nintendo's big guns
Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has gone on record in an interview with Forbes that the company's disappointing E3 2008 showing may have been "misunderstood" by hardcore gamers. This is a sure suggestion that we might see more swords and guns, and less drum kits and balance boards from Nintendo's 2009 showing. Both Mario and Zelda teams have been busily working for other two years - will we see new instalments? (PLEASE GOD YES)

PC: Same old faces
The familiar PC heroes are set to fly the mouse and keyboard flag next month, with Blizzard likely to announce a final release date for StarCraft II (and perhaps Diablo). Meanwhile Valve will no doubt wow with well overdue Half-Life: Episode 3 and whatever else it's been working on, and Crysis developer Crytek is also due a game reveal. Crysis 2?

PS3 Slim
Sony's second hardware vision is this suspicious-looking 'slim' PlayStation 3 that supposedly leaked from a hardware factory in Asia. They look dodgy but a barrage of mysterious cease and desist orders that've since been mailed out to website hosting the pictures suggest there's more to this story. After all, you don't send legal warnings over fake photographs, do you?

Xbox Motion
The Xbox 360 'Wii Remote' is the rumour that just won't die. Last year industry chatter suggested that Microsoft was set to unveil its own motion-sensing aspirations at E3 - but it didn't happen. This year looks far more likely though, with even the Wall Street Journal reporting that the platform holder will show a motion-sensing "camera" in Los Angeles. It's going to be an interesting Xbox press conference.

Valve are even at E3?
I don't recall them using E3 before to announce anything so doubt that one...

here here, the original on the snes is one of my all time favourite games, pulling of the 48 hit combo with orchid against my mates was a particular highlight, ahhh the good old days. :)

It's about time we heard something about Episode 3 though..... the length of time between episodes is as long as most sequel gestations.

E3 is going to be MASSIVE!

I have high hopes for all of the Big 3 (yes, even Nintendo).

They tell us they want to make E3 a massive event again, we'll so do we. No pressure then guys, were all watching.

At least Valve released Left 4 Dead and a load of TF2 updates since Episode 2.

I fully expect that Ep3 will feature L4D-style random creature spawning Director AI a couple of times.

I've been holding out for Killer Instinct 3 since Gold came out on the N64. I'm just worried now that SF4 has beaten it to the punch (pun fully intended).

I can't think of anything unannounced that I'm really excited about. I'm still way behind in games right now. Don't even have KZ2 yet.

A PS3 price drop would be most welcome too.

Yeah, I must admit that I am getting a bit fed up with no episode 3 news. They said last october that they may announce something in last edec (`08) but didn`t. I have been 5 months since! Come on Valve, reveal please!

I'm hoping for something big from Nintendo. To get me back on board as a fan, they need to release either a new Zelda game or a new Mario game. No excuses Nintendo! You've had your year of mediocrity, now it's time to deliver!

@ Dajmin "I can't think of anything unannounced that I'm really excited about"

Dude if its unannounced how could you be excited about it lol, i bet there will be loads of good stuff announced, I for one am looking forward to the year of gaming, maybe if the comment was theres nothing already announced your excited about id agree(aside from bat man and fight night) theres pretty much nothing happening so heres hoping E3 will change all that.

Hopefully something about beyond good and evil and the next pack for GTA(not sure if rockstar bother at E3 to be honest)

Battlefront 3 please!!

Or DLC for inFamous?!

That would also be cool!

To be honest, even if there arent any earth shattering announcements, im looking forward to seeing MW2, Uncharted 2, God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5 anyway.

don't hold your breath, they brought cammie dunaway back for some perculiar reason, and miyamoto isn't listed as a speaker

Are those the best rumours folk can come up with? Even if they came true, I wouldn't be at all surprised or amazed.

I'd love to see a couple of new IP's that are a break from the norm. That is my personal preference.

As for games I've already heard of, but know very little about, then Alan Wake has my 360 curious. GT5 has my PS3 curious as I have a feeling (or hope) that a lot has changed since the Prologue. Strangely, both developers of said games have been very (VERY!) quiet of late, which for me, keeps things interesting.

As for MGS whatever, I am bored to death of reading about countdowns, Big Boss, Raiden, 360 port and all. And it won't be out for donkeys years anyway, so why bother hyping it up now?

Either way, E3 should stoke everybodys fire. Just let us wait it out though..... These rumours suck.

Well as shown by famitsu Kojima is very well working on a new MGS game involving raiden and big boss. I think. I mean the article showed both of them. Otherwise Nintendo have Miyamoto with a surpise appearance. Big things from them are now a given. E3 will blow minds this year.

Wasn't that on the N64?

I'd like to see new gameplay videos of MAG and Uncharted. God of War 3 would be nice as well. Not really sure if they are going to reveal more things about GT5 or not. Cinematic trailer of the so called Trico would make my day, though.

I also expect Sony to reveal a new version of PSP. I expect quite a lot of news for PSP, although some of it may just be confirmation. But for instance seeing what MM has in store for LBP (I don't expect the full game on PSP, but whatever we get I'm sure it will be interesting), and what kind of service improvements and online games we can expect. PSN just launched on PSP and I expect that we'll see a lot of changes for PSN - Sony changed the system to an open standard for a reason, I'm sure!

MS is probably going to show off the new Forza and I think they are going to use some of the time to talk about upcoming Splinter Cell, RARE's new game/games, Halo: ODST and new episodes of GTA DLC. Regarding the multiplatform games, I only care, to a certain extent, about CoD6 and I fully expect from IW to show a trailer with at least a limited peak at gameplay and new features in multiplayer.

No idea what's Nintendo going to do though.

I'd be happy with just a new SSX game.

Anyone else think that GT5 will be garbage?

Same 2D scenery, same sounds (tyre screeching, engine), same bouncy physics, still no damage.
Posted by Mark240473
I think you are being a little presumptious there. Polyphony are not ones to release shoddy products.

I fully expect weather and day/night tracks to be in the final game. I'm not sure about damage though, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if it wasn't in GT5. I am pretty sure that they will improve collision physics. And let's face it, damage in sims has mostly been asthetic anyway, as it was in Forza, adding very little to the overall experience.

Who knows? I just hope that I get to see GT5 in all its glory at E3. If not, I will be slightly miffed.

I thought Forza did a good job, granted not perfect. Seeing my mashed up car crawling along not getting out of first gear was better than nothing.

all I can say is... BOOTH BABES!
