Slim? Don't think so. Well, it's got to be some kind of new model - 'new exciting Playstation 3'?....can't be the same as the one that we all know.
In terms of a price cut, I read earlier that Asda has already dropped the price of the 80Gb PS3 to £250 - I guess we can only assume that this is the start of the retailers clearing their stock of the older model?
:) IMO, SONY should concentrate on making the whole online experience a lot better than playing around with a slim version of the console… there’s still lots of work to do to make it anywhere as good as the XBL experience :( But PSN is...What is the word? Oh yes FREE.

The New "PS3 Slim" will be unveiled officially. It was shown on the gametrailers site (then hastily withdrawn) it is the same black colour & style but is half the length (but the same depth), has the slot at the base and the logo is central, running sidways across the system. It will be available at retail from 1st September 2009.
The price will drop from £299.99 to £199.99 (any higher would be pointless), hence the current panic around retail stores to drop prices on the old style PS3, to try and shift old stock!
of course, I may be wrong. :wink:
P.S. to combat this Microsoft will announce they have bought EA (Who's press conference runs at the same time as Sony's). :) It could get toasty indeed as the German games convention thing is this afternoon UK times isn't it.
If there is any new model, I reckon we'll hear about it by the end of the day
Good stuff Wildhook, I'd happily pay for an online experience to the standard of XBL. Having played a ps3 online, you can definately tell it's free. The amount of XBL gold subscribers out there kind of prove my point. Id rather pay £27 for 13months, than have the trouble i get on the PS3 to be honest!
I guess you wont notice how bad PSN is if you haven’t tried and tested XBL. I have both and to get a game going with a few mates on the PSN compared to XBL can be a pain in the arse if you cant be arsed to TEXT CHAT! No there isn't. Yes, XBL costs, PSN is free. Some aspects of live are better, but you pay for it. You can play online straight out of the box with PSN.

I’m only telling the truth, i have both consoles so im not just sticking up for the dam XBOX here! But it’s true that the XBL experience is better and easier to use when playing online with your mates! All I’m saying is id rather see SONY make a better PSN experience when trying to set up games with friends etc… they could do a whole lot more with it but they don’t bother!

That image that you are describing has already been dismissed as fan art, not the actual slim Yup, much the same as the RROD....we all know it, most of us have experienced it and there is no denying that the 360 is a shoddy piece of hardware.
Sony make hardware - Microsoft make software....kind of makes sense where the two systems will be superior - still makes for a dull, dull argument that's been done to death though.
Wouldn't it be great if the two could come together to build a console? - all that expertise and all those developers on board.

:wink: I completely agree, I own and use both consoles, but for online use the 360 is leaps and bounds ahead of my PS3 (and that's without the forthcoming Twitter, Facebook and Sky facilities this winter). It's well worth the subscription fee. I`m with you on that! the PS3 with a XBL experience! if only.... sonys conference later on cant come quick enough I saw a few days ago that asda were doing £250 for 80gb PS3 with LBP, infamous and ghostbusters. Although I think you could chose the games to some degree. That's really a pretty good deal - all decent titles, really.
I'm still not convinced that I'll pick one up. I know you've said in the past that it really needs something big to justify owning both a 360 and a PS3, for me - that would involve a lot of exclusives and I just don't see any that really take my fancy. Demon Souls looks great, but I doubt I'd get much out of LBP, MGS4 or GoW3 (although, that does look fun)....I'm really no fan of FPS's, so Killzone doesn't even get a look in.
At the end of the day, it isn't about cost for me - it's all about the fact that I already have a 360 and that pretty much caters for everything that I currently want or need. If I'd have known about some of the upcoming titles due for the PS3 when I made the decision to get a 360, it may have made me think a little harder (although, GTA4 DLC and Mass Effect would have probably still won out).
Still, a price drop will certainly do the PS3 the World of good.

It is pretty much FACT that XBL is the superior online experience, as it is FACT that of all of the consoles the 360 is the most likely to RROD or explode!
The only thing that PSN has over XBL is the awesome vidzone, and the ability to browse web.
XBL is far more social with better voice malarky, easier to party up and join your mate's game and better gamercard thingy.
Anyway this isn't about re-hashed arguements about which is better its about getting excited about yet another version of the PS3! - I predict it will have a 320g HDD, which cannot be changed, a faster Blu Ray Drive, eye toy thing bundled to trump natal but no BC So this is going to be bigger than E3, are you sure? :lol: I don't care much for a Slim (although I do think that one will be announced today), but a price cut would be good all around. It would attract more people to the PS3 so it would sell more, get more games made on it and there would be more people to play against online. It would also give Sony R&D more funding to get some of the features that everyone seems to want (even though I think that PSN is fine as it is). I think some people are getting a bit carried away with what to expect from this! Granted PS3 price cut/slim and GT5 are quite big deals, but as you said, it's not E3!
And it's good to see the Lord back, just in time for the inevitable carnage that will follow some of the stories from cologne. i just want to see what the slim actually looks like officially. as i've said loads of times before, i couldn't give a shit about it otherwise. Don't be too proud of this technological terror Microsoft has constructed. The ability to cross game voice chat is insignificant next to the power of the PSN. They could do with some sort of fanboy comment filter but I don't think we would have many comments left :)

You can out of a potato, now that's impressive. yes the 360 is a shoddy console, but who cares, it has some great games, and brilliant online experience. yes you do have to pay for XBL, but you get what you pay for, and they give you plenty of warning when there is going to be maintenance work. i have a 360, i did have the option to get a ps3 before it was released, but chose a sony camcorder, and if i had to, i would do the same again, and again WTF are you going on about?

When have specs ever meant anything in Gameland really. the PS2 was a shoddy pile of crap compared to the competition but it still sold like the clappers because it had a better line up of exclusives that appealed to more people than the competition.
sames true of the PS1 the Megadrive and the NES. every console thats been market leader in its gen has followed this principle.

But I'd have to get a new graphics card for L4D/2 on the PC! It was you that started it again you muppet!! i thought Left for Dead ran on rather megre specs. Valve games tend to get the most out of whatever PC you're running them on. i was pleasantly suprised when HL2 came out and my clapped out old PC still managed to run it to an acceptable standard.
I have to agree that Sony have stepped up thier game recently on the gmae front and have enjoyed thier current crop of exclusives. Although i tend to go to the 360 whenever something multiplatform comes out, just because they generally come out a little bit better off on the 360 and the pad is soo much better IMO.
Only multi plat game i'm intending to get on my PS3 is Arkham asylum, i'm a sucker for the Joker. That's a good point. HL2 ran ok on my old P4. I'll get my mate to load his steam on my PC and see how it goes.
Can any PC gamers shed any light? I've got a Core 2 Quad, 2 gig, and (I think) a crappy geforce 8500GT, which is likely to be the stumbling block. And which I can't really afford to upgrade right now.

The Day where Sony start to dominate!! apparently Asda have just knocked £50 off the price of the PS3. Seems a good deal too. £250 for an 80gb with Terminator salvation (the game), Terminator 3 on bluray and either Infamous or ghostbusters the game.
fair enough you'd want to trade in the terminator part of the deal but still you could use the returned coffers to pick up a cheap copy of something more worthwhile like uncharted or LBP. Ok marked. the day Sony got thier act together, way too bloody late for it to make the slightest bit of difference to anyone that didn't already own a PS3. Thanks guys. I'll get it next time there's a steam sale on.
They have monkey. Someone got Infamous, Ghostbusters and LBP. But apparently they didn't have Infamous in stock so he got CoD4 instead.
That works out about the same price as I paid for my 360 in May last year, so I'd be happy with that. do you think Sony are trying to announce something without spending any money on pr & marketing? thats twice Sony's pr department's been steamrollered by the internet, in less than 6 months no less.
