Urgh I wish James Cameron would just go away, the trailer wasnt even that impressive imho. Meh, this trailer is way better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYBRFJ9RArc As a CGI spunkfest, it looks pretty cool. Curses for being partially sighted ! Looks awesome. :D Graphically it looks great but other then that, there is no appeal for me at all. It actually looks boring. Good God that looks incredible from a visual stand point. I look forward to the movie being released. I'm a bit concerned that humanity is doing some rather nasty things, perhaps in the shape of being "body snatchers", of the local inhabitants. Ah well, I'll keep hoping that humanity isn't a complete ******* "bad guy" group in "Avatar". This trailer actually shows just how good game design is these days, when such an expensive movie has such average design. The creatures themselves are utterly underwhelming. As they're so close to human in shape and structure, I don't understand why they didn't use actors and CGI any extra alien detail on top if needed. Making CGI human-like effects stands out as so fake, as we know how a human hand/eye/hair, etc work and react. The biggest issue is that in an imaginery alien world, with an enormous budget, and access to anyone and everyone in the creative world, and the aliens turn out like this!!!! Anorexic, broken nosed, elf earred, blue tall humans! Wow (and not in a good way). Seriously any old creature design from practically any old videogame made in the last five years probably has more creative and original ideas!
Ignoring that, the dragon-alike is absolutely typical CGI sci-fi. The director said after watching Lord of the Rings he was convinced the technology has reached a point where he could make this movie. He's right if you're not bothered about computer images looking like computer images. Actually a decent combination of old fashioned special effects, minatures, make up and bit of CGI would have been far more convincing. needs more CGI Yeah, this film looks great, Star Wars for the 21st centuary. The game will be better FF7, Mass Effect, Deus EX, and the rest. James Cameron rocks, YEAH!!!!!!!!!
Think positive people. I was actually looking forward to this film, but it looks like a load of cut scenes from "insert fantasy RPG name here". 'From the Director of Titanic', did he have to remind me of that? That film sucked donkeys ass, no matter how profitable it was or how many misty eyed nostalgia lists it tops. Seriously, if the 3d doesn't pay off he is going to look like a mug. You can expect 5 star reviews from Total Film/Empire magazine however it turns out, being the excitable children with pens that they are. Classic CVG proof reading! "Trailer form the film"/// Those are blatantly Pelicans and Hornets in that trailer... looks like a sci-fi scrap of cowboys vs indians, in HD Looks crap. As this doesn't much of the plot away, besides the aeriel dog-fight I'll hold off on judging it too harshly, but it doesn't look to be doing anything new, if the 3d system they use isn't totally revolutionary then the only gimmick this has going for it will be a waste of time.
Watch "District 9" if you want to see sci-fi done with some sense of originality. My thoughts exactly. I believe this is relevant news for CVG though, one day we'll be playing games that look like this! :D Not that original though is it - Re: Alien Nation Agreed, not to take anything away from District 9 though! Looks great :D I think that Cameron's problem with this is going to be that he's spent too long on it. When he started he was using cutting edge technology. Let's face it, if this had been released 5 years ago (before we were all spoilt by "next gen" graphics), we'd have all been much more impressed. Now we look at it and think, "It's good, but not spectacular".
As someone else stated, this all rests on whether the 3D is any good! :? I just watched the trailer at work so no sound.
The plot was thus, Marine's personality was inserted into a clone of some alien race who's planet we want. He is then dropped onto said planet to scout out the locals. Our boy falls in luv with another blue skinned chick and when the invasion starts, decides to join in on their side.
That about cover it? :( Am I wrong for not getting excited about this film? Let us not forget that the last film this man made was Titanic. Commercially it did very well, yes, but I didn't enjoy it at all, to be honest.
Terminator 2 was his last truly brilliant film, and that was a very long time ago. They are as well! Looks pretty decent. I suppose it'll look incredible in 3D, the way its meant to be seen. In 2D the cgi looks a bit of a letdown. Star trek has now set the benchmark for special effects. I can't believe I fell for the hype about the special effects for avatar. Hopefully the movie itself will be fun. MORE CGI' NOT LOOKING GOOD. It looks a HELL of a lot better than Transformers did, though. Game trailer now added. that game looks shite.
the film on the other hand.. Wow I didn't realise you guys were such big movie experts, I mean you have drawn so much from a teaser trailer and gone against the grain of movie critics and filmakers who have actually seen more of this film than you.
All we need to know is that this film has; - Big robotic power walker mechs - Marines - Aliens - Marines fighting Aliens - Sigourney Weaver
Can you remember the last Cameron film that had all of the above? Yes? And it was awesome, so shut the f*ck up and wait until you have seen the film before you pass judgement. +1
James Cameron admittedly hasn't directed a lot of feature films, but let's take a look at what he has:
Terminator - ace Aliens - arguably the best in the series The Abyss - A breakthrough in CGI, and a very good film to boot T2 - Taking that development of CGI one step further, and then making what is the best Terminator movie - topping even the first True Lies - a completely divergent movie from the rest, but a hell of a lot of fun Titanic - regardless of what anyone thinks of that film (this is clearly not the place to congregate the sort of people who would appreciate that film), but it was certainly an epic of sorts, and undeniably a technical breakthrough. He had build a 1/3 scale model of the Titanic, ffs! If people watch that movie trailer and claim its either average or crap they must have ridiculously high standards. Its a depressing thought indeed.
From a technical point of view it looks pretty damn impressive, and in response as to someone saying the na'vi look indistinct and boring, they are humanoid so there will be an obvious resemblance with ourselves, but do remember that they average out at about 10 feet tall. I was lucky enough to get tickets for the 15 minute iMax preview today, & I gotta say that no 2D trailer will be able to do this film any justice.
You simply have to see it in 3D to fully appreciate it. Saw the 2D trailers online before going & thought meh, but seeing it in 3D on massive iMax screen (biggest in the country  ), I was blown away.
The robots & ships look especially cool (but only shown very briefly in the preview I saw  Yep. The giant saucer shaped ships brings back memories of an even older sci-fi series, "V for Victory" (aka. "Victory"). It had a younger Michael Ironside starring in it amongst others. Agreed. Good post man. I 2nd this, i got to see it last night down london, all you people who are moaning after seeing a 2 min teaser trailer for a 3d movie need to go see it how its meant to be wacthed. Its amazing! -1
"Unfounded optimism is no worse than relentless pessimism." Seems relevant. Are you telling me that because the film industry itself is hyping this film to that we should listen to them? Don't make me laugh, they make a fortune doing just that. And movie critics? Come off it, the majority of whom are pompous art students or media ghost writers. They make the Daily Star look like a reputable news source. Hollywood is the biggest self perpetuating, back slapping old boys club in the world. I suppose you think that an Oscar is a mark of a good movie also? Why don't you take your own advice and shut the **** up until you have seen it before you start weeping with joy. I'm certain I've read that same paragraph before somewhere else... if you are referring to the quote, its off that guys sig... you forgot true lies, but the trailer looks likes it taken clues from halo and aliens, to panzer dragoon, and it also looks like it could be from any number of trailers from games in recent years.
will go see the film in the 3d to see what it is like. M8, you echo my sentiments exactly in your reply. Trailers are made to try and sell a movie to the world. I think most people whom are giving their opinions here are giving them for the trailer above the thread, not the whole film, yet this traler in particular, being James "YOU"LL NEVER WORK IN WELLYWOOD AGAIN, WHO FUKKING SIGNED YOU ON TO WORK ON MY FOTHER MUCKING FILM. F*CK OUT" Cameron's first for this title, must impart to viewers a general idea & style of the whole film, so... |
