Branded Modern Warfare pads incoming

Deal struck for controllers and accessories
Mad Catz will produce "officially branded controllers and accessories" based on Modern Warfare 2. The third party peripheral company now has the rights to print money as it has the rights to a range of accessories for all current platforms of the title.

Infinity Ward boss Vince Zampella said, "Mad Catz's innovation and fresh approach from Day 1 has been great. Their team has really poured their hearts into the new line of accessories for Modern Warfare 2 and we can't wait for our fans to have a chance to play for themselves this November."

Would you buy a third party pad just because it said MW2 on the side and came in a camo design? It might not, but we'll have to take a stab in the dark as there's no word on what these peripherals might be. Though we probably would go for a Modern Warfare 2-branded bazooka, as long as it was life-size...

I bet it will be something like the cover art photo on the controller.

Anyway even if I think it looks amazing I doubt I'll buy another controller at full price.

Is this the 'all games should have bespoke controllers' aspect of Activision?

I can't see what kind of accessories you can have for MW2, unless it's tacky.

Branded controllers don't personally do anything for me, I just like the plain old boring ones, but I suppose if folk want to show their love for a game this is the next best thing.

Would I f*ck!!!.

Third party controllers are shit. Sticking MW2 logos on them won't change that.

First they hire another company to make crap versions of CoD so they can get a new game out every year...then they charge £55 for the STANDARD edition MW2 game...then they milk the franchise even further by making crappy third party controllers...

Yet the gaming community laps it up!

i wish they'd change their name from madcatz to something a bit more grown up like maybe er gametools or something
Posted by kimoak
They'll have a deal with Durex to have MW2 branded condoms next.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
depends what the pads are like. The saturn style pads they brought out for SFIV are bloody brilliant.

If its just a normal pad with a MW2 logo on it though i think i'll pass.
Posted by flash501
They already have them. Mr. Kotick is going to use them on all the MW fanatics who he has over a barrel.

I think I'll wait for a Modern Warfare 2 bedspread and matching curtains... how about MW themed slippers and ashtray! I need to redecorate my hall, any chance of Modern Warfare wallpaper?

Actually I want Modern Warfare camoflauge make-up so I can smear it all over my face when I play and look like an utter ****! I might just dig up my garden and throw dirt and weeds over my TV and Xbox to camoflauge them! Suppose I'll have to cover the whole room in grass and dirt otherwise they'll stick out like a sore thumb. Beat that Madcatz! Waste of time ****ers!

 Forget Mad Catz that one in the pic has Activision written all over it. I'm surprised they haven't tried something like that yet.

it will be one of they FPS controllers.

Personally i have 4 pads already why would i need another? i like call of duty played since the COD days on the pc but i adored Deus Ex and Half life and i never bought any merchandise associated with them.

LOL @ Gamepad branded for an FPS. A MW2 branded keyboard or mouse I could understand but a gamepad?

"Durex MW2 Condoms ''
As long as Treyarch don't make them

With the tagline of "Modern Warfare 2 condoms, the choice of the profesional marksman. This is the ultimate flak jacket for your soldier and is designed to keep you safe and that you don't shoot too early when you see the bazookas come out"

Back on the subject though, Activision are REALLY milking this cash cow for all its worth! They are even trying to out peripheral Nintendo for tat!
Posted by S-Falcon
I have absolutely no interest in this game, none what so ever.

Batman and Uncharted 2 please!!!
Posted by seabeast
I love how S-Falcon claims he has no interest in this game, yet he had enough to click on the article, read it all and then post about it....lmao

And the dude having a moan about the 55 quid RRP....I'm yet to see it for that price, and all the major online retailers are doing it for 44.99, so......

People really will moan about anything.
Posted by ParmaViolet
Again, that's really not the point.

The retailers are still charging more than they would for any other game. This is just a case of Activision saying 'OK, they seem to love COD - so, we may as well charge them more for the privilege of playing it...the idiots will still buy it anyway'.

It's an utterly greedy and cynical act by the greediest and most cynical publisher out there. I don't expect a boycott on this game, but I'd certainly hope that they suffer when they release another of their sub-par titles in the future for the same RRP. It's a trend that they're in the position to start purely because they hold an 'Ace card' in MW2.

Sure, games were more expensive when they were on cartridge - but, the fact remains that people generally bought less games because of it.

These days, because of the special deals that some retailers offer us, we're more likely to pick certain titles up on a whim - at £45, that becomes less and less likely....especially when you consider some of the utter dross that is churned out, week after week.

Pre-ordered £36 off Tesco on-line, will not be buying cheap nasty goggles or yawn-worthy controller bunch of arse things either, nowt wrong with a 360 pad. Will be getting DLC as it genuinely prolongs the enjoyment of the game, the other stuff does not.
Posted by Fastcarrot
The thing is that people now think £44.99 is a good deal, where before it used to be the full-price RRP, and to be avoided. And the thing that Activision said about customers being positive towards the new price because they are still pre-ordering MW2, is despite the price rise, not because of it, and also most of the time £54.99 is not the price people end up paying. If it was any other game than MW2, pre-orders would have dried up. That's why its just a milking exercise, because they know a lot of people will buy it regardless of a slight increase in price. It will be interesting to see how it impacts on other games after MW2. Probably negatively.
Goodness knows how much GAME are going to charge instore for it, if I remember correctly they price games based on the number of pre-orders they get, so it will probably be going for near full RRP. Maybe most copies of MW2 will be sold online, where the discounts are bigger.

But back to this controller, I'm not gonna get one, I've not even got round to getting a vibrating PS3 controller yet. If I was gonna buy a new controller I'd get an official one, not one covered in MW2 pictures. But this new one will still sell like hot cakes. That's why they're making one for thus game and not Decorating Mania 2.
