Super Star Wars coming to VC

Nintendo strikes LucasArts deal
Multiple LucasArts old skool Star Wars games are coming to Virtual Console, starting with Super Star Wars, which should be live in the US about now.

Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi will be added later and all three (which were originally released for SNES) will set you back 800 Wii Points each.

"The arrival of the first three games will be accompanied by additional Star Wars-themed content on other Wii channels throughout the week," says the release.

"The Check Mii Out Channel will invite people to submit their best Mii character renditions of classic Star Wars characters. On the Everybody Votes Channel, users can cast their votes to help settle old debates, such as the proper order to watch the six Star Wars films, and who fired first - Han Solo or Greedo?"

Expect more classic LucasArts games for Virtual Console to be "announced in the future."

We're waiting for word on when these games might hit the UK. But if Super Star Wars is up there now, let your fellow readers know below. Our Wi-Fi's playing up.

hells yeah the super star wars series are possible some of the best Star wars games ever made. Hopefully this means we'll be seeing rogue squadron at some point too.

a wiiware version of the scumm games would be awesome too.

Then again there is already a fine version of scummvm for the wii.

The Rogue Squadron games were good, the N64 one in particular. I would love for them to put that up.

Han shot first, everybody knows that!

Very good memories of playing these on my mate's copies of these games, many moons ago.

Might have to get me some more points.

If they do that and announce a new one for Wii at the same time, I would have a heart attack.

haha... yeah the 'special editions' are complete shit arent they.

who in their right mind would pay for these now the homebrew channel is readily available and takes 10 minutes to install? :?

Great news. I'll be getting those. - I'm really happy with the selection of Snes/nes games on the VC, but why such a poor showing for the N64? - Where the hell is Pilotwings 64? If they won't give us a new one for Wii, at least let us play the old one (smoother and without pal borders!)

I played through the first 2 games about a year ago. Should have left it as a happy memory :(

My thoughts exactly!

I played these on my SNES about six months ago. They haven't aged well at all. Just hold right and press both buttons, lightsaber flip your way to the end of the level....done.

Again....better left to memory.

I felt exactly the same way about Super Castlevania at first, but once its retro charms take hold, you see past the choppy animation. - I'm not saying the same will happen with the SW games though!

On the other hand, Super Metroid has aged beautifully in every way. Methinks Nintendo knew what they were doing.

they sure do. played through mario 3 and super mario world this year (works slow) and they are still excellent games. star wars is dull and has the oddest level design.

For anyone complaining about the cost of Modern Warfare 2, I clearly remember this game selling for £58.99 on SNES. In the early 1990s...
