PS3 Slim/price drop rumour round-up

Internet says PS3 production ramps up, price cut coming and Slim priced revealed
The rumour mill is about to burn itself out thanks to re-occurring PS3 price drop rumours and word on PS3 Slim's arrival.

According to DigiTimes Sony has placed enough component orders to double quarterly PS3 manufacturing rates. Apparently it's ordered enough parts to knock together one million PS3 units during the third quarter of this year - double that of the last three months.

This has lead to speculation over a possible price cut, as Sony could be preparing for a surge in sales.

Elsewhere, a listing for a "PlayStation 3 Konsole Slim" appeared on Amazon's German website over the weekend before quickly being removed.

The Telegraph says that the new SKU will likely come in 40GB and 80GB versions, starting from around £260.

Official confirmation of all of this could come from Sony's Gamescom press conference in Germany on August 18. It might not either. We'll let you know.

As long as they include backwards compatibility and memory card readers i'll buy a Slim. If not, I'll head over to play.com and get a 60gb for £230 and all the features that I want.

PS3 slim is undoubtably a response to the Xbox 720 as shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LxBpOq4sWc

£260 isnt even really a price drop if you shop around.

the fats may drop more to get rid of them.

"As long as they include backwards compatibility"
I'd head over there now, because that's not going to happen.

Another rumour doing the rounds is that the current model will be dropped in price by £85. Not a bad price drop, if true. Should bring the price down to around £199.99, based on current web prices.

That 720 looks awesome!

Surely all of the console manufacturers order double the number of parts in the run up to the busiest part of the year i.e. Christmas

Or have they ordered twice as many as they would normally order in the run up to Christmas?

You know?, I read his post and wondered what he was doing wasting his time here when he should really be doing stand-up.

The world needs a razor-sharp wit like that - share your gift with the people, Xrulz.

I think that it will be announced at Gamescom. If you think about it, everything adds up, the pictures that we have seen have been fairly consistent, it is supposed to launch with Madden NFL '10 (which comes out about a week after Gamescom) and if they announce it a week or so before it launches, then they keep losses in sales to a minimum. I suppose that we'll see in about 2 1/2 weeks time. If not then it will almost certainly be announced at TGS, with a price cut announcement at Christmas.

I that I know is that it will cost 299€ in Europe and starting at 120Gb.

And Septembre 2009 is the likely date for it's release.

They probably order their parts this early every year, to be in time for christmas.

That's practicly a comformation, then. Since it accidently appeared on the German version of amazon and Sony are holding a press confrence soon, in Germany!

It wouldn't surprise me, now, if Sony accidently told the world their bank details  .

Likely they'll unveil a PS3 Slim for £250

and reduce the original 40gb PS3 to £200

Whatever, the PS3 will be the hottest console property this Crimbo seeing as the 360 line-up for the period won't win any awards eh he
