Share this article: Digg.comFacebookGoogle BookmarksN4GGamerblipsdel.icio.usRedditSlashdot.orgStumbleUpon I'll make Rainbow Six Vegas my first trial of Games on Demand. Always been meaning to buy that game. 8) I hope the full 360 games are reasonably priced, especially those ones, you can get most of them for about £15 if you shop around. I'm not that fussed about most of it, but the idea of being able to arrange everything so it's where I want it is a good thing.
Avatar clothing - meh. Downloadable games - meh (no HDD space). Social networking - double meh. Would I be too cynical in thinking that there are now more ways for MS to bleed money out of us?
None of it actually improves the service, does it?
Games on demand? More like games for lazy buggers who don't mind paying over the odds. Having been accepted into the beta, I can officially confirm the biggest and best thing about the update is the speed. Don't know about the rest of you, but waiting for all the options to become available after choosing a specific title took ages before.
Now it takes about 4 secs for every single option to become available, and the new rating system is great as well, no more downloading bunk premium themes.
And I know only suckers and mooks buy premium clothing, but I had to buy a 5 ft cotton swab from Monkey Island, I couldn't resist :D the xbox sucks so do american people a c-cksuckers console for a race of w--kers You can most for under a tenner and even less if you don't mind pre-owned games.
Is anyone else on the XBL beta? I haven't really seen anything special, apart from the faster loading times, especially when loading the friends section on the dashboard.
I was going to try the avatar props but they are overpriced for what they are. Especially the Warthog remote control car. 320 points! Haha. Or games for people who dislike having clutter you muppet. Yeah, it's certainly faster for me too. You can always tell when it's the summer holidays on these forums, can't you?
On topic: Isn't the smaller install sizes on this update, or is it coming later?
That, to me, is pretty damn good.
:) Yeah, it is on this one, averages about 3-4 gb from the 6-7 gb previously, I'm not quite sure if it really makes any real difference though :? A popular invention is the shelf. Additionally, if you would rather not display your hard earned wares, then you could simply transfer them to your HD and store ones cases in a cupboard. You could save many pounds.
I think the muppet comment was slightly uncalled for. Unless you work for MS, that is. :? »
When you make statements like that it's well warranted. »»
I like to pay in kind.
And why be so defensive in the first place? I did warn folk that I was wearing my cynical hat..
Have a caramel. »
It'll be interesting to see how much of an effect it'll have - obviously, some games will be affected more than others.
I have a 120Gb HDD, but I just have too many games....I'm down to about 40Gb free!
Mind you, I should probably just delete more crap - I found demos for games I own were still on there!
:) »»»
Cheers! 8) To be honest, the shelf comment made me chuckle. I don't really think that a DVD box in a row with other DVD boxes really counts as clutter. But then I guess it depends whether you just keep them in a random pile on the floor, where I guess it would. That’s not a very nice way to speak about the native American Indians, or the Aztecs or Mayans for that matter. Racist. And for me, incredibly fast, though I do have to wonder if that’s because not as many people are using that interface yet. After the 11th we will see. OR WILL WE?? Possibly…OR POSSIBLY NOT?? i havent seen a good food discussion on here for a while, so... galaxy or cadbury's? Just being your usual annoying, trolling self, now **** off to the Sony forums and do us all a favour! Whilst there are no earthshaking visual changes, I think most of the adjustments have been "under the hood". The odd setting has been tweaked and a few menus have been streamlined.
Although, i do wish they introduced "one button press" accesses to setting my online presence.
One thing i haven't seen anyone talk about though is the extra panel been added in the "My Xbox" row called Solutions. It provides trouble shooting tips (like NAT problems on Xbox live or adjusting display properties).
Which is nice. »
I noticed it's been quicker for me for a week or two now. Possibly since they shut live down for 24hrs a few weeks ago. I wasn't in the beta, so don't know what else it could've been.
Getting the space required for installs down is worth it as far as I'm concerned. Updates are hardly a hassle.
And yes you are being cynical Mark. As long as some people are happy to buy this stuff, they'll sell it. This is what games companies do! Of course, if they charge full whack for them they will be taking the piss. You can get a lot of those game second hand for £10 or less. What I want to know is whether we'll get the same deal the americans have in regards to the summer of arcade. Over there if you buy all of them you get 800 points back.
I've got the first three already and I'm probably going to get the remainder so it would be nice to see some payback. Especially as I've spent so much money already on arcade games and themes and whatnot.
I'm interested in the games on demand, for a reasonable price. Avatar marketplace sounds ominous to me but I know full well that I would buy a Lancer in a heartbeat. I'm a whore..... Apparently they'll cost 1600 points (£13.60). If that's true, then I'm happy with that. That isn't such a bad price. Saying that, I wish MS would get rid of the stupid points system.
For instance, a straight £12.99 per game would appeal to me more than 1600 points. The point system is obviously used so that you have always got spare points after a purchase, so to tempt you into another sale - and more points because you never quite have enough left for another game...
Genius or evil? You decide.
I really need to lose the cynical hat! I don't know why, but MS seem to bring out the worst in me!
Oh, and I have 800 points spare. What would you recommend?
I haven't had a 360 for a few months because of the red ring'o roses. Unfortunately, I also couldn't use my details for my previous LIVE tag either, so I've had to start a new one. A problem with my e-mail and a forgotten password..... :(
Not bothered about the loss in gamer points though, tbh. I got on the preview programme, and i have to say that there is some actual differeences that make NXE better. although they are pretty subtle.
The whole thing runs alot smoother and getting to content is even easier.
The space needed for installs has also Been shrunk. how much depends on the title. apparently KOFXII has gone from 3.4gb to 750mb.
I tried it with Fallout 3 and Fable and both have had about 200mb taken off.
Rating games is a nice feature although you don't have to own them to do it.
The clothing marketplace is a bit of a joke because the new suffs a bit pricey but at least it all previews on your avatar. So you can at least see what it looks like.
Not groundbreaking but still welcome changes The avatar marketplace isn’t something that would appeal to me, as I see no point whatsoever in buying digital things for my digital man thing. But I can see some people would like it, I wouldn’t call it ominous, if people have money to burn then let them! »
I'd say MS is a Evil Genius regarding the leftover points thing, although they have allowed Americans to buy Live games direct from Amazon for real money, so it's only a matter of time for us I guess.
I'd top up my points and get Shadow Complex, it's looking pretty good. Agreed. The only ones I'd technically buy, are the ones you earn in games. »»
Yeah, I'll hang on for that one as nothing recently has piqued my interest. I tried the Monkey Island demo, but found it a bit lacking on a console. Splosion Man is worth 800 pts, give the trial a whirl and see what you think.
Both Trials and Shadow Complex look really good. Microsoft has revealed the launch line-up of titles and pricing details for its upcoming Xbox 360 Games On Demand service.
Downloadable titles sold via the service will cost between 1600-2400 MS Points ($19.99-$29.99 / £13.60-£20.40), the company confirmed to Joystiq.
For £20 they can take a running jump. I'm sure all the games on the list can be bought way under £20, apart from maybe Burnout. Yeah, that does seem ridiculous when you look at the list of games that will be available.
If we are to assume that something like PDZ will be at the lower end of the pricing - that's still £13.60 for a game that can be found for as little as £5. Even Burnout can be bought for less than £20....they've also added games that have already had sequels released - things like Fight Night: Round 3.
I won't bother at that price point - mind you, I did expect them to be on the pricey side.
:) Exactly, put them at the price point where they can compete with second hand games in gamestation, blockbuster etc and then they'll get their wish. Not only will they sell more games here due to a competitive price, it would mean less copies to sell/trade in shops.
People go on about the ability to resell games, but I reckon the trade in value on most of these games here will be a fiver max. Some might not even get a trade in over £1!
Why don't games companies seem to realise they'd get much more business digitally if they cut the damn prices, made them competitive and went at it that way? I mean they're just files sitting on a ****ing server, costs after bandwidth must be negligible.
I was always told in business 'something is only worth what people are willing to pay for it', well then MS, are any of these games worth £15 in the shops, let alone digitally?? Mass Effect maybe but I saw that in BB for £12 the other day.
But hey, it's an option I suppose. Just one I can't see me taking up with these games. I'd be more likely to pay £40 for a full new game. Probably when drunk or stoned and sunk into the sofa! You can get the Ultimate edition of Burnout Paradise along With Trivial pursuit for 19.99 at Game second hand.
If they really wanted to make these competitive they should release them at prices far cheaper than retail as at least you have some trade in value on analogue copies.
They wont do that though as who would pay XBLA prices for games like MVC2 (£10 essentially) when you can get full games for a fiver.
Prey for instance is less than a fiver at Game, Gamestation and CEX if i remember right.
If were all honest and we could buy XBLA stuff on a disc at retail for the same price there would be no digital downloads for them at all...
Still the faster loading sounds cool and if they release some better avatar apparel i might be interested. You just know that there will be a million gamers with a Lancer/ Halo assualt rifle on day one eh?
Come on MS give us a Castlevania SOTN clothes update... I want an Alucard Shield :D |
