I Am Alive is first-person shooter

New details on Ubi's disaster game emerge

Ubisoft's elusive disaster game I Am Alive is a first-person shooter, a new magazine preview has revealed.

According to the latest issue of mag Games TM, the Darkworks-developed (they did Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare and Cold Fear) survival game has you playing as main man Adam Collins after a mysterious earthquake destroys Chicago (as you can see in the teaser trailer released last year).

As Adam you're out to find your missing girlfriend and gain the attention of a silent government task force, which may or may not have something to do with the Dharma Initiative (not really).

"In I Am Alive, we're not only turning your everyday life upside down; we're also changing the very social values and rules that both everyday life and videogames rely on." producer Alexis Goddard gushes in the mag.

On opting for a first-person view, he adds: "We wanted the player to really feel the power of Mother Nature, to feel the danger coming from the collapsing towers and devastating rifts, feel the chaos happening all around him. There's nothing like a first-person view to create that kind of emotion."

The focus of the I Am Alive will be on obtaining items necessary for survival, says the producer, such as the water, weapons and ammo - the later of which will be a rare find...

"We encourage the players to use tactics, diversion, and discretion," Goddard says of the game's combat. "You've found a police shotgun, which is out of bullets -- rightfully so, since Chicago has long been a proponent of a ban on guns. How about some intimidation? After all, who knows the gun is empty but you? Just point it at looters and they'll remain at a distance as you progress toward your objective. However, you can only aim it at one person, so you have to watch for being flanked."

It all sounds quite interesting. Oh, and in case you're wondering, we'll say again that superstar Ubi producer Jade Raymond has nothing to do with I Am Alive. We're still disappointed.

Thanks 1UP.
