Share this article: Digg.comFacebookGoogle BookmarksN4GGamerblipsdel.icio.usRedditSlashdot.orgStumbleUpon That makes their huge losses from Q1 of the year look even worse. Cue SVD_Grasshopper and KingWiiBoy... This should be an amusing afternoon. No doubts about a Christmas price drop now.
70% is very impressive.
That means Sony could potentially drop the price to £199.99 or cheaper.
Awesome news, especially after seeing their recent losses. if this means a price drop is coming, awesome! il buy another 3 lol 8) Ive heard Shenmue 3 is a shock xmas release only on ps3 its on some crazy jap site thank the world Gets you wondering just how much cheaper the PSP GO is to manufacture compared to the old 3000? Even if they did drop the price, people would still complain. wanker. stop name dropping cause noone recognizes you. > You've done it to yourself, mate. I mean, how the hell do you start an argument over the colour of a controller? ah there we go right on que. Speak the devils name and he shall come. and they call this demi god of general ignorance, illiteracy, servere venerial disease and plain obnoxiousness.
the grasshopper.
ahem back on subject. It does make sony seem to be taking the piss a little by not cutting the price they currently have the machine at a 55ish percent markup.
makes you wonder if the 360 still sells for a profit or not. Why quote dollar prices? Sony are Japanese - it's all about the yen!! Exchange rates have changed massivly in the 2.5 years since release - 116 yen to the dollar in Dec 06 compared to 95 now.
$800 on release was 92,800yen; drop that by 70% = 27,840yen. Which is now £175 ($293). Adding VAT to end users, and you're already over £200 without any retailer profit (though margins are pretty small) and other costs (shipping etc).
If Sony don't want to sell at a loss, £200 in the UK still looks unlikely going by these 'figures', if this $800 figure is even accurate. At least the pound has bounced back a bit recently, but we're still at the mercy of the exchange rates. wara lagend lol! seriously, what a bunch of gimps.
the kind of people who got bullied at school, but come out into their own on a forum. technology - isnt it great. Agreed, and a significant price drop can't come soon enough if Sony hopes to regain lost ground in the market. And yet you haven't even commented on the actual topic of this article yet despite at least two posts. I've said this before but - oh the irony!
You're the best example of an internet 'ard man. All you do is crap on people opinions and swear in bold, when in real life you will just be a small desperate, lonely and paranoid little boy. Now get to **** back to eurogamer. WHO CARES! this shit has been covered 10 times before. your all speculating like that ***** michael panchter.
get over yourselves.
sad *****, the xbox live generation. scared to step out the door. you use a microphone instead of a mobile phone. Because the global economy works in us$, hence why we get screwed over for tech prices in this country.
This is good news thought, hopefully a price cut should be around xmas time, I seriously would like to own all 3 consoles.
Oh and off topic - Don't feed the trolls! michael pachter* I believe that Monkey is a Wii enthusiast and I myself do not pay for for Xbox Live and use PSN to go online with. You are again using the Xbox 360 as an insult. Typical Grasshopper, using unfounded insults (if you can even call them insults) on people he knows nothing about.
Hopefully if a price cut does come as a result of this, it won't attract more people like HIM to the PSN. maybe some of this drop in costs is due to the slim ps3 which is why the exisitng unit is priced as it is. i dont know but perhaps they have a chance to reduce the prices from here on in, i dont think they are taking the mickey with their pricing as the price reflects a design decision. I’m not actually sure what people expect when they continuously mention Grasshopper’s name prior to his arrival in a thread, of course he’s going to go into overload immediately. It is getting rather tiresome, and becoming just as bad as his little rants. At least let himself get worked into a tizzy all by himself first!
All you’re doing is raising notoriety, do you wish him exalted onto a plateau here and other sites? No? Then leave it be. He he, you're just jealous that our microphones work properly and when playing different games. And I know the correct useage of the words YOUR and YOU'RE.
Plus I'll fight you anyday. i for one hope they do drop the price to tempt me to buy one.
on a different note i was just having a look over at play.com and saw this at number 1 in the ps3 chart http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/5675248/Gioteck-Real-Triggers-For-PS3/Product.html
i agree with conkers. cut SVD a bit of slack, he's quite capable of hanging himself. I know that, but its made by a japanese company, R&D mainly in japan and built in the region. So the cost in dollars (or any other local currency) is only relative to the exchange rate at the time. I'm pretty sure that when Sony look at their costs, they'll be thinking yen.
Everyone has been screwed over to some degree, and it's mainly the strength of the yen. Thats why Nintendo were going to up the trade price of a wii in Europe.
And yeah, this baiting of people before they even post is just as bad as the baitee starting the argument. If anything it's worse because there are even more posts! Cheers for that, I'll probably order 1. I love the way, even though it's only 4 euro, they feel the need to tell us that the controller is not included with it. You don't say!. Let me translate that for you so that the rest of the forum can understand. Ahem! "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" aye those triggers are worth it along with the analogue stick caps that give them an indent like the 360 sticks. since i got these the pad feels a lot better, now if only someone would bring out an addition that swaps the left stick and the dpad around. how the hell those sloped R2 and L2 buttons made it to the finished product i'll never know. so svd has the only mobile phone with no microphone????????
how can you not want to bait him, he's even useless at being a troll Saitek make a PS3 pad where you can swap around the stick and the dpad. Good make, too.
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/ps2700v2.htm
£24.99. Also works with a PC or PS2. and if svd is so bothered about people having online communitys and all that its not real you dont know them stuff, then why does this bother him?? that does look quite smart but i take it its not wireless. tbh the left stick placement niggles only come into play after a few hours when my thumb starts to seize up. maybe i should just take a break more often. check the state of you all. you enjoy commenting on me even more than anything else. pointing out your garbage is mildly entertaining, but its a bit like beating a blind paraplegic with a baseball bat and running away ie: its way too easy to actually be fun
a bit like svds mum  For some reason one of my pads has decided not to recognise L2 and R2 at all...which can make for a very difficult time playing nearly anything.
That aside does this mean that the price of the ps3 will go up 70% using Sony's own patented logic? »
Yeah, agreed. Sony have made made making poor decisions an art form this gen. Where did you get the analogue stick caps?, I've looked in a few places but had no joy. @Jazzy_P It would still be nothing compared to a Neo Geo. The system itself can go for £880+ but games can go upwards of - get this - £15,000.
And people say that that MW2 is overpriced. Lol i like how these forums normally end up with people having an argument with svd albeit it can't be helped strangely i didn't mind paying 180 pounds for the top neo geo games in 93, i got moneys worth out of them, they were hugely superior to all the snes beat em ups of the time apart from streetfighter2 turbo, which i have to admit i played in the arcade a lot but not that much at home and the joysticks were awesome, i got 2 of them in 92 with the console and it alltogether cost the same as a megadrive
mw2 will get the same uberdiscounts at xmas as all the other games, just shop around i love xmas releases soooo cheap rrrr you lot are so funny, your posts make me howl it really helps me pass my lunch hours in work, honestly hands up how many people would miss a little baiting and barnying on a forum!?...
The only reason I bought an 360 was because it was cheap, its as good as a PS3, and I dont care what anyone says....but I admit, I am a turn coat I did love my PS2...I think if Sony had got the price right in the first place then I might have been tempted to stick with Sony. They should surely give a price drop now..then again suppose you do get a blue ray player with your PS3, as apposed to....what was that thing they released for the XBOX...what was it again,...errr let me think...I know cash convertors sell the films.... think it was either Play.com or i got them from someone off ebay. defo got them at the same time as the triggers which i got from Play Im quite happy with the PS3 Dual Shock. Sure a redesign would be nice (I do admit prefering the Xbox 360 design) but its hardly in need of desparate fixing.
All who say it does really do love Xbox 360 and Wii an extrem pyshcotic zeal.
Price drop will happen soon but what do I care, I own the ultimate 60GB version already, and it was worth every penny! i think a lot of people were expecting a redesign after using the current one for the last 2 consoles, plus showing us the boomerang design didn't help. most people probably just have a few issues with it like the R2 and L2 buttons having a slope and the positioning of the left stick and dpad. having the stick farthest left seems to be the best design position as its the most used part, bearing in mind that the original dual shock was just a redesign of the PS1 pad which used the dpad most. the majority of games now use the sticks and having to hold the left stick further right can cause a few problems like cramp for a few people, i myself broke a couple of bones in my left hand when i was young and any prolonged strain on it causes it to tighten up, so after playing anything for a few hours my hand gets quite sore and i usually have to take a break. its been like that all the way through the end of the PS1 and the PS2 but i've never had this problem with the Xbox or wii. still hasn't stopped me playing anything on a playstation though. Just found them on play.com, cheers mate. I'm at a loss to know what that link has to do with the article. I can't see them charging less for a PS3 than a PSP Go, so the £299 price tag is probably here to stay for another year.
PS, is it just me, or is svd_grasshopper crankier than usual? :? nothing, hence starting the sentence with 'on a different note'. »
You're just not up to SVD's trolling standards yet but good try, good try. »»
Well SVD has set the bar really high to be fair. And the original PS1 pad was basically a complete copy of the SNES pad but with handles stuck on the bottom... heh I just join a thread thinking everyone is talking about the matter at hand and instead half the comments are about this STD_Grasshumper or whatever the f*ck he's called. Go talk elsehwere, we're discussing cost of production here my lovelies.
High-5's on Sony's front. Although surely they wouldn't dig themselves a hole by saying this and not also mentioning the knock-on effect of a price-drop? the knock on effect is probably a small profit on each machine rather than a equal loss
price needs to come down but microsoft will do the same, will put pressure on the wii tho @Lordirongut Very true, but you can play Mark of the Wolves on a Neo Geo..that nearly makes it all worth while.
Ad at least MW2 is equipping you with the tools needed for raids behind enemy lines with its NV goggles.
Not that i would buy MW2 anyway... 8) MAY CUM BACK (WITH "SHADES COOL 8) ) WITH MORE TROTH AND MORE /WIN! HA PS-CRAP STIL FAIL?! IT TIM TO MOOVE ON! BY AN XBOX 360 SOOO GRET 8) think i might give those triggers a try. you'd think Sony would've at least figured out that triggers require an indent.
On the whole the PS3 pad sums up Sonys general conservative approach to hardware design. Babysteps and no real innovation.
then again you can't blame them with the pad. they came up with a completelt different pad and it was by and large laughed at.
On the whole production cost sign of thing.if Sony are making a profit on machines at the moment i think it'll be another year untill the price cut simply becasue there still going to be trying to recoup loses from earlier models.
Then again i'd say if you were interested in getting a ps3 i'd go to ebay and try find a 60gb model. they tend to go for around £200 and are still backwards compatible. more features, less cash. simples. They just don't seem to get ergonomics. I've never liked the Dual Shock controller, but even that is better than the boomerang / double dildo prototype they came up with for the PS3. The original PSP is also awkward and uncomfortable to hold for any length of time - don't know if that's improved at all with the slim or the 3000, but it sure doesn't look like they've learned much with the Go... |
