I'll give it a try later. I enjoyed Ferrari Challenge and hopefully Supercar Challenge will address some of the minor complaints from the first game. Thanks for the key. Unfortunately it dosen't seem to work for me. It downloads and installs fine but then asks me to update to version 1.22. Then before it starts updating it says error has occured and I have to quit. Very difficult(and realistic)handling. This is a sim, not an arcade racer! This wouldn't put me off buying the game though, it just means you have to practice to be a better driver and therefore have a better sense of achievement when you win after all that hard work!
The course map needs to be darker in colour(maybe black?)as it blends into the background too easiliy and is difficult to see sometimes.
Fully cusomisable controls would be welcome as the predefinied control schemes are ok, but some players might be used to their own controls from playing other racing games and may have hard time adjusting to the control schemes in this game(especially manual transmission users), although this point goes for any game as well, not just this.
Another thing I've noticed is there is no ability to mute players using headsets. Although this should really be in the Ps3's Xmb menu an option in game would suffice to prevent an immature minority out there spoiling the experience for everyone.
Also the tyre squeal needs to be much, much louder, like 100% louder as its very hard to tell you're approaching the raggedy edge until you actually understeer off the track, by which time its too late.
I did like the graphics - the dirt build up on the cars and the rain effects were great, the cockpit views were authentic although the bumper cam is a little too low to the ground for my liking. The car sound effects and engine noises are great.
Although I wasn't originally intending to buy this its now on my radar. For people having trouble downloading the update you have to tap the X button rapidly until it starts downloading. seems ok from what ive played so far but its going to get swamped by forza 3 and gran turismo, need to mess around with the assists because for me it lacks feel for what the tyres are doing at the moment,it may just take more time but the beta has little incentive to keep playing
looks competent enough just not great for me anyway .
and by no means bad I'v got to say, I had pretty high hopes for this but now feel pretty let down.
Using a wheel with it just feels strange (not like GT) and using a controller had steering assistance - which really doesn't work (but I may have forgotten to switch it to simulation for the controller). Also the track modellings are pretty poor as the scenery is completely wrong and the nurburgring seems to be completely flat! And the damage modelling is very 'last gen' (but at least it's better than GT)
On a more positive note at least the sounds are good :) They're all gone already. :( Only just got home from work. Missed the key. Why does my work insist on blocking "gaming" websites. What am i gonna do all day surf the net... Oh hang on.. I swear to god the game controls better when the display is set to 720p, it also looks a lot better from my previous setting of 1080p.
Great handling with the wheel (G25, all configurable options on medium), and some good force feedback effects, I'd say they're the best I've experienced in a console racing game - obviously it gets totally mullered by the PC sims, but for a console game it's well implemented here. The loss of front end grip, rumble strips and turning resistance effects are all excellent.
As someone mentioned above the Nurburgring is lacking in elevation, which is a shame because SPA is very well modeled.
Manual gearbox: Good that you can't drop gears at high revs, bad - no clutch support.
Sound: Nice engine notes, but the impact sounds and gear changes could do with some more work.
Graphics: Pretty good, no where near Gran Turismo but the game is pleasant to look at and has some nice effects like the lens flare and smoke.
I'll probably buy this because of the handling alone, it's very enjoyable to drive. Much better than the other PS3 driving games currently out there.
Pleasantly surprised. :D I loved Ferrari Challenge and this is better already,the engine noises are excellent and the controls are superb,i know this will upset alot of people but thisowns GT5p when it comes to being the "real driving simulator". yeah i sucked your dust twice this afternoon :oops: was my first 2 gos at the game mind :roll: when do you have more keys????? :twisted: will system 3 ever just get there s--t 2gether and
release a new last ninja game and how bout some other classics,myth,vendetta,flimbos quest,ik+ the list goes on and on just like the c64 id like to see the paint editor in action too and see what the limitations are,
will probably only pick this up on the cheap tho It's pretty decent. I was happy to find a new in-car view, one that sits above the steering wheel, allowing you to see more of the windscreen and track.
I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the single player career and trying some of the other cars, when I get the full game. in all honesty who really cares about driving games last good one was outrun 23 years ago all the world wants is shenmue and last ninja Everyone has different opinions about what they like and it seems everyone here is into racing games. Thanks for this, CVG, it's pretty cool :) . |
