Splinter Cell damage control continues

Game delayed to "fulfil potential"
The Splinter Cell Conviction damage control continues this morning, as Ubisoft releases a statement assuring fans the delay to 2010 will help the game "live up to our own ambitions".

"Splinter Cell Conviction is a very important game for us. We want to ensure it's a game that long-term fans and gamers new to the series equally enjoy when they play it," it says on the official site.

"Previous Splinter Cell games have set the bar very high when it comes to quality and enjoyment, we are firmly focused on continuing this with Conviction.

"After demonstrating the new vision for the game at E3 2009 we won many awards and got a lot of interest from fans and press alike. In order to live up to our own ambitions and your expectations, we strongly feel that giving our teams that extra time will allow us to present a game to you that will fulfil that potential.

"Due to this, we have decided to move the release date into Q1 2010. This extra time will ensure Splinter Cell Conviction becomes every bit the fantastic experience we want it to be."

Conviction was just part of Ubisoft's delay-ageddon, which saw Red Steel 2, Ghost Recon 4 and I Am Alive slip down the release list.

Is it Groundhog day today?

This game is looking great. But I knew they wouldn't release this and Assassins Creed 2 so close together.

Yes because the 4 years its already had in development haven't quite been enough.

Trust the french to bottle out of a fight. At least boarderlands and Brutal legend are going to stand up for decent gaming this christmas against the fetid lump that is yearly updates.

I am MEGASTOKED for this!! Must have, must buy! Who's up for some Spys Vs Mercs later?

I could be wrong, but I think Ubi basically scrapped about 2 years of development on Conviction - the one we're seeing now is not the same as the original that was announced.

:)

No you're absolutely right. They went to the drawing board. There's probably 2 years of work there.

fair enough. I'll give em few extra months, still think they're making excuses though.

I don't mind too much as long as we get a better end-product. It seems like we've been waiting ages anyway, a couple more months can't hurt.

(Plus it'll give me more time to focus on Forza 3!)

:)

It's like with Alan Wake, first big tease, then trying to catch up with growing hype around it. It'll be delayed few more times i bet.

So let me see if I have this correct...

Some of you are actually bemoaning a developer's decision to delay a game to make it better and more enjoyable for you, the consumer, once it launches.

Unbelievable...

I'm guessing when it does come out some will complain thats its not 'all that' and that they should have taken more time to sort it out.
Its not a good sign that he more or less admits that its a bit cack at the minute though.
