PORC hosts NPS 4X this weekend
PORC promises a top weekend of shredding (MBUK)
Penshurst Off-Road Club (PORC) is set to host a weekend of gravity racing this weekend when the National 4X Series arrives for its final race of the year.
Sunday's season finale will be the first NPS race at the Kent venue since 2003. The track has been extensively redeveloped since then and organisers and riders alike are looking forward to putting it through its paces.
The track now has the highest start ramp and longest first straight on the calender which should see some ultra-fast racing and plenty of first corner action.
With the 4X boys dominating Sunday there will also be a SixSixOne Mini DH race on the Saturday. The short-course downhill race format has proven popular this year as it offers youngsters their first taste of racing while giving the more seasoned competitors an every-second-counts challenge.
PORC has been hit hard by vandalism and financial problems, and owner Mike Westphal is excited about the prospect of seeing the country's fastest racers hit Kentish soil again. "Of course we've had our problems in the past," he told us. "We want to make PORC the country's top cycling venue and hosting the NPS 4X is a big part of that."
There's more in the pipeline too, with a road-racing circuit under construction and the prospect of a home-grown 4X series in the planning stages. "We love our downhill track too," Mike said. "We may be in the middle of Kent but it's perfect for the short-course format and is one of the most fun tracks in the country."
Mike is looking to sell 25 percent of the venue to fund its continued development. Any potential investors should get in contact via the club's website.
