Gran Turismo 5 out this year

...in the US, according to Amazon
Gran Turismo 5 will be in US shops on December 29, according to Amazon, who's already taking pre-orders for the game at $56.99. Please let this be true.

The game is widely expected for release next year, but this raises an eyebrow considering recent comments from series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, who said last month: "We've actually reached a point where we could probably release it any time."

Even more recently, Yamauchi said a release date announcement was coming "soon". Sony's official line is: "We haven't announced a release date for GT5 yet," CVG was told this morning, with the UK rep adding they "can't comment on the US".

Fingers crossed then, that Amazon's post (spotted by PlayStation Lifestyle) is bang on the money.

As you should know, GT PSP will be out on October 1. And we're all about it.

fat chance. look at the proposed release date. It's one of thier annoying approximate ones.

sorry to burst your bubble CVG.

Dec 29 would be a strange time to release it would it not?. If they can actually release it at any time then surely they would release it before Christmas and not a few days after?, or is this yet another game running scared from MW?.
Posted by Miss_Wacy
yea cos a RETAILER says so it MUST be true cos after all theyd no more then the devs  , just wait till PD give a release date yea? ffs
Posted by Currychips
I don't think this game is running scared from anything. It is in a completely separate market to MW2.

There's no real competition for this game on the PS3 and it'll sell well no matter when it's released. Just let it be sooner rather than later!!

I for one won't be buying MW2 until that price comes down to the usual level. Until then I'll be keeping myself busy with Forza3... :)

Check any online retailer they all have 'dates' if it was gonna be that soon I think we would know.
Posted by Mark240473
I don't know what to make of all these proposed dates for GT5, but I do have an inkling that it will be released in Europe this side of Christmas.
Posted by ricflair
Sony may have made a few questionable decisions in terms of marketing this gen, but releasing possibly their biggest game on the PS3 so far (surely the most well known Sony 'brand' among the general public) at the time of the year when people are at their poorest?

I can't see it. If PD have finished the game, just ****ing release it. Making people wait another six months or so makes no sense to me. It's not like this is the only PS3 exclusive with potential.

Just out of interest mark, any reason behind your inkling or are you just hoping?!?
Posted by Miss_Wacy
games gonna be wicked wen it comes out anyway
Posted by Chimpanzee
Your source is... Amazon?! What kind of website is this!?! You can't use Amazon as a source for release dates. They'll put anything in if it will allow them to start taking pre-orders.

Honestly, CVG. I know it's nice to create hit-grabbing headlines but come on!
Posted by timewarp1
Have you let the work experience kid write the news articles again?
Posted by benbot80
Wow. I can't believe you actually think this is news. Any idiot could tell you that they wouldn't release a game four days after Christmas.

That's the most hit-baiting title I've seen for a while and I've seriously lost respect for you guys.

Well basically, we Europeans tend to get GT games before the US, probably because they sell more in Europe. My guess is that we will recieve GT5 within a couple of weeks of Japan, sometime late November/early December.

From what I hear on the grapevine, MAG will be released pre-christmas in the US, but not in Europe. Instead, we will be getting GT5. Those are the two big Sony xmas games for both markets.

Suits me.

I've not been to bothered by GT games since completing the 1st one years ago. Its all just more of the same without much personality.

However the more I see of GT5 the more I want it!

I have my fingers crossed it arrives before Christmas, as it could then be added to my present list. I'm hopeful but not delued, so my guess is next year.
Posted by ricflair
So you're still hoping really! Positive attitude instead of "it'll be pushed back like everything else"? I like it! I guess it depends when Sony/PD deem the game to be finished.

Give gamers both games I say! I can understand MAG selling better in the states - they loves their online FPS action!

overtaking someone in GT takes skill. so what if it isnt as "fun"(cheesy) as other racing games.

its more of a sim, more engaging, its not something you play lightly.

Being positive about GT5 being released *soon* is the only thing that keeps me sane! If they would just let me touch the case, I'd be happy for another month....

In the US, numerous folk have been spotted playing the MAG beta, so that can't be far off now. And you're right about them loving the shooters, though UK is getting obsessed with them too.

Yeah it takes skill to over take cleanly, but in after you've been playing for a while all it takes is the right car. I found when I had the top end cars all the races were a bit on the easy side, just chose the fastest car.... job done!

Saying that I loved driving the old Cobra, as the handling was difficult, which in turn made it fun to drive.

The more I think about it the more I want it so yes I'm still hopeful.
Its the only game where I've been able to do a full 360 handbrake turn just as you go over the line (winning the race and looking very cool in the replay).

GT has always been middle of the road i thought, its not a sim as its not that hardocre but it offers more than arcade style games, although in the past it had an arcade mode.

i'd also argue that overtaking can be made without skill by using the other cars to stop and bash them off line.

GT and forza are my favourite type of racing game due to the fact they arent anal sims but offer much more depth than arcade racers. its strangley addictive winning and buying all those cars too (the soundtracks tend to be decent as well).
Posted by Black Mantis
I agree with all of that, except for Forza's soundtrack though! I would prefer them both to concentrate solely on production cars and drop the Le Mans/NASCAR/Rally modes though.

yeah you are right, i meant the gt soundtracks tend to be good, probably proven by the fact i cant remember what the forza one is like but still remember gt1 to this day.
Posted by Livi70590
Yeah, no chance on December 29. January 29 could be a bet though.

Urgh - Forza 2 soundtrack with that nauseating Natasha Bedingfield track.

All I remember was that it's a song about 'going for it' and all that rubbish.

'I like my food with chilli in'

Woah, steady on girl.

Seriously, if I want to go and drive a car really fast around a track and want some music to get me in the mood, am I really going to choose Natasha sodding Bedingfield?!?

:)

No wonder I hated that song! Can't stand her either. :)

 Agreed. Being able to use your own tunes ingame is a godsend at times!.
Posted by altitude2k
There's nothing I hate more than having to spend my downtime having fun. I much prefer effort - it's just as good as being at work...but on my weekends and evenings! You've sold it to me - maybe GT is exactly my type of game.

Posted by svd_grasshopper
thrillers arent as "fun" or as i said cheesy as action films. but they are more worth your while. you have a better overall experience and it will draw you back for more/be stuck in your mind a lot longer.

same with the 2 types of racers. the disposable flare of the arcade racers maybe all your little mind can handle. big fancy effects and instant handling.

Depends on the arcade racer. PGR used to take a very long time to master - cone-challenges on platinum, for example. But at least it was fun doing it, if perhaps not that realistic.

The problem with emulating real life racing is that it's dull except for one thing - adrenaline. There's no fear invoked in a racing simulator, therefore it's not as exciting. You need to replace that excitement with fun (your distaste of which must mean your nights out are stonking, by the way) - make overtaking occur more frequently than real life, make impacts do little damage compared to real life so that you keep racing rather than you're straight of the race out etc.

The problem with your argument here is that GT doesn't portray true simulation any more than Forza does. Hence why it's only ever had cosmetic damage. It has an element of arcade, and it has to, otherwise people wouldn't find it as entertaining as it clearly is.

I've always said that GT5 may indeed be the game that makes me fork out for a PS3 - that would not be the case if it wasn't going to be any "fun" to play.
Posted by Mark240473
Whilst you are right to a degree, it isn't as simple as just having fun. Crossing the North Pole can't be much fun, but people still do it. I think the word I am looking for is satisfaction. Oh, and a sense of achievement is important too.

not going to happen
it would be sweet but so would Scarlett johansson knocking on my door

Hang on...are you actually comparing crossing the Arctic with completing GT?!?!
Posted by chainsawgerbil
so the bash em bumper car style of overtaking in gt requires real skill???? its the best way to get record lap times.
gran turismo was massivley impressive and fresh on ps1 when 1st released , i had the japanese version, but now its cheesier than a stilton factory its a victim of its own success and stale game design. it was once a sim now its just boring
i want this just to see what its like but if you cant use music off your hard drive then im not getting it, im a pretty chilled out guy but that MUSAK makes me want to kill
euro gt1 soundtrack was ok 2 was ok but more vocal tracks wouldve been nice, 3 had enough barely that i liked but i hated the race music for 4
also think this will appeal to americans more this time with the whole nascar thing
Posted by svd_grasshopper
if you bash cars to compensate for not braking the only person your fooling is yourself. you can be sure saving any kind of replay would be pointless.

the musak... shut up.

and the yanks can have the nascar section, we'll enjoy the rally section... and the rest of it.
Posted by akash
If they think im gonna wait for GT5 they can go f**K themselves, I think Feb next year at the earlest.
I'm getting DirT 2 anyway when it comes out, so i dont need GT until next summer :P
Posted by lordirongut
I really want GT5, and I hope that they release it before Christmas. There is a 50/50 chance on it because Sony will want to maximise profit, but PD will want to perfect it further.

Ah well, you can't rush perfection...
Posted by pp82
There is know way GT5 will be out this year surely Sony would of hyped it more also at E3 didn't they say the PSP version is their main priority and that GT5 would come out after . So I doubt Polyphony are going to have GT5 ready to be shipped in two months time

Amazon, Play.com etc.. put up any old date to get people to pre-order.

No, he's talking about the feeling of satisfaction some people get from completing something that challanges them.
Posted by chainsawgerbil
right so when everyones bumping you online in the same way i just said its not going to be a bad thing huh

mind you with your crappy connection you will probably be lagging way too much to hit

and theres nothing wrong with my spelling of musak just your ignorance as per usual

and i even put it in caps so you wouldn`t embarrass yourself yet again

and my comments about nascar were positive ones as people have already pointed out gt is not as popular in the us
Posted by chainsawgerbil
»»»

like svd doing up his shoelaces
Posted by chainsawgerbil
probably should of put muzak tho its the more common spelling but itd still have the same effect, but now ive put that he will probably try and convince himself that that was why he put his normal ignorant crap up
Posted by gogo65uk
If this is really due to hit before the end of the year then MW2 can wait until jan-feb. Will have plenty of games to play on with out another mindless FPS.
Posted by pishers
not the point, the fact its possbile rules it out of being a sim. a sim is a copy of real life which lets face it the GT games are not, they are a fun compromise. i agree that crashing on purpose defeats the object.

personally i think they should dump rallying and just stick to track races but thats just my preference although nascar does suck big time.
