NFS Shift: New Drift mode video

Gameplay vid reveals new going-sideways direction
Black Box Studios has revealed the new Drift mode to feature in Need for Speed: Shift, pleasing boy racers doing doughnuts in Tesco car parks everywhere.

A Black Box rep explains: "We wanted to ensure the mode was treated with the same degree of accuracy as the rest of the game so we worked closely with Team Falken driver and World Champion Vaughn Gittin JR," who features in the reveal video below.

"Designing and coding a drift mode has always been a very tricky experience particularly when trying to make it accessible for new gamers and hardcore gamers alike so the design team spent a lot of time working to make sure the mode is as hard (or as easy) as you want it to be. For new gamers an Amateur setting teaches the basic of Drifting and then slowly ups the skill level until they can complete against the best," they add.

First screenshots of the new mode are below, too.

Is it wrong to look forward to a NFS game? :?

Yes, now go hang your head in shame :)

The original NFS game was good, and they went downhill from about Hot Pursuit on. It'd be great if they managed to get the franchise back on track and into the realm of "car enthusiast" rather than "boy racer".

I say it was not Mark! I am looking forward to it myself, especially if this is where the NFS series is going to go from now on.

Drift in Grid was something I found a little harder to master but if they can get it just right in this it would be perfect, especially if it was explained a little better.

Still some of these shots look pretty realistic graphics wise too. Impressive stuff!

Well apparently, the new developers have been working on this game for a couple of years now, so I am remaining fairly optimistic. And it is out sooner than Forza 3 too, around late August, I think.

Not too long before we find out whether EA have re-invented their beloved series.

Yes although surprisingly this game reminds me of Grid and perhaps could be seen as what Grid was but built up from it.

This is going to be a serious driving 'simulator' I hope or am i hoping for to much?

Please lets hope all the hype of this game is as good as it suggests and that it is a very very good driving simulator - of course dont think it will beat the real driving simulator!!!
