Dead Space: Two sequels planned

And movie to enter production, claims report
It's reported that two more games in EA's excellent Dead Space series are in the works, as well as a full-on feature film.

The film is to be helmed by Eagle Eye and Disturbia director D.J. Caruso - who has nothing to do with spinning tunes - claims the report, with producer seats going to Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who are also doing the Gears of War movie.

The producers, EA and Caruso have been listening to takes from prospective writers, and once EA signs off on a creative direction the Dead Space film will be auctioned to studios. This will likely happen in September, says Variety.

Dead Space, in case you still haven't played it (you numpty), is set in the 26th century in deep space, where an engineer who responds to a distress signal from a mining ship finds the vessel infested with monstrous creatures called Necromorphs. Dismemberment follows.

We're all for more Dead Space. Just take your time and don't bugger it up, EA.

I more excited about the confirmation sequels are in the offing, but I do hope they will make a decent job of the movie, I quite enjoyed the low budget prequel they made.

Hang on, EA, hold it. Wait and see how the second game does first, surely?!

Looking forward to a sequel, as I thoroughly enjoyed the first game.

Gotta catch all dem necromorphs!

I was disappointed by the first game...i enjoyed the comic/anime thing more than the game itself which had zero in terms of personality as far as i am concerned...I got bored by lvl 6.

woohoo, loved the first game, had a good twist in it i thought

good riddance, first game did nothing for me, one huge rip off of so many other games/movies. gameplay was ok tho i give it that, but that is it!!

I'll never forget the day i played this (Dead Space not Pokemon) through a mate's HD projector on a 120" screen.

I'm not usually a jumpy person but f**k me that was atmospheric!

Sequels will be good.....I hope.

Film will probably be shite.

Great news. I loved the first one, the atmosphere and sound was pure class. It completely overshadowed Resi5 for me, but why does every game have to be made into a movie nowadays?, is Hollywood that low on ideas?. Oh well, it's not the worst game to pick for a movie I suppose, if it has an Event Horizon vibe to it it could(but probably won't ) be half decent.

Yeah, a film could be very very good. get someone like Brian D'Palma or James Cameron to direct.

Glad some sequals are coming along, too. The first was great.

:D :D :D
Thank F*CK EA finally get their ass in gear and get a sequel to this amazing game.
For me this was the game of the year last year and it outclassed RESI 5 in every department...........and thats saying something as i am a huge resi fan!!!!!
The atmosphere and style and story were second to none and i hope they keep the same production standards in the next game.
As for the film, well, story wise the first game had it all.
Bring it on EA and hurry!!!!!

Good news indeed! "Dead Space" was, and is, a fantastic survival horror, IMO. I wanted to play "Dead Space" on my PC but because of EA's DRM SecuROM I didn't and played it on the Xbox 360 instead. IMO, the controls for "Dead Space" are some of the best I've encountered on the gamepad. It didn't take long to settle in to them either. More please! :D

I'd be happy to go watch the movie adaptation. I ordered the prequel anime last week and am waiting for it in the mail.

This was from a realitively hazy report in 'Variety' It actually said that there were two more games in development. Which there is. Dead space 2 and extraction.

It doesn't necessarily mean 3 is also in the pipeline.

Looking forward to the sequel. Not so to the film. It'll have to be something special to be a success.

I watched the animated film prequel. It was meh. I played the game for about an hour before it bored me. I thought I'd love the game before I played it but something about it just didn't feel or look right and shooting the limbs turned out to be more annoying than goringly satifsfying.

I probably won't be buying a sequel.

Thank god im not the only one who was thoroughly unimpressed...
I was beginning to get paranoid

wasnt this known months ago?

The movie being directed by the guy who did Eagle Eye and Disturbia, both very good films in my opinion, and both starring Shia Laboeuf. Wonder if thats a clue that he will star in this movie :)

There already is a Dead Space film; it's called Event Horizon.

Seriously, though, a film seems like a bad idea to me as, aside from the fact most game to film adaptions suck, the game itself was derivative of so many other films anyway. I loved the story but part of that was to do with the fact it is a game. And I agree that it didn't have an original idea in it's body but it is one of the best games I have played this gen. There is a lot to be said for a perfect refinement of an existing idea. Roll on the sequels!

the more dead space the better. completed it 100% on 360 and ps3. loved the anime and i'm all for the movie if done right. will be picking up extraction in october for sure.

WTF???

Never ceases to amaze me the inane ramblings and contradictory statements that get posted here!

Oh dear, another "game does well, enlist a trilogy and a movie!"

Not saying Dead Space is anything other than very good, but I tire intensely of the persistant need for three part video games.

It's such a methodical and draining way to milk the cash cow.
