I've seen Monkey Island clothes and items in a video on Youtube, as long as it's reasonably priced I can definitely see my avatar donning a pirates outfit.

Surely avatar clothing would be much better as a reward once you have completed a certain number of achievements within the game itself?

I doubt very much that I will pay for any clothing or accessories for mine.

Exactly, that way it's visual proof that you've completed the achievements too. It would work well for games too, people see the coolest ever costume on you, find out it's from completing such a game and then it might sway them into a purchase.

It's a rip off though. Think of how many Gears fans will pay to look like eachother, that defeats the whole point of avatars.

Complete rip off job. I'm one less Gears fan now as I got sick to death of the games' faults and realised how s**t they are. Traded them in on the weekend. No one I know plays them anymore anyway

i didn't see any Locust outfits on that page, all 3 seemed to be the same COG outfit.
and i certainly won't be paying for any avatar clothing, unless they release some proper football tops.

They are going to be giving away clothes in games as well. The latest XBLA release Sposion Man is one of the first games to come out with preloaded Avatar clothes for you to unlock.

I agree that you should get these by collecting achievements in game.

The only real problem with Achievements and Trophy's is that, whilst offering more longevity to a game, they don't actually award you with any game-changing bonuses.

A similar method would make HOME a more attractive proposition, especially if items and clothing were unlocked in more games, a la SF4.

But then, developers love those micro-transactions.

"Think of how many Gears fans will pay to look like eachother, that defeats the whole point of avatars"

Another very good point, Crispy. Have you seen how many XBL gamer-tags contain the word "spartan"? It would get to the point where like, 50% of the avatars would be masterchief, 25% Marcus and only the remaining 25% will have a different look.

Imagine though, how cool it would be that once you get say, 80% of the achievements you get a clothes and skins pack? I would love to have my current avatar, with say, Francis form L4D's tattoos but in the clothes he has now.

Works the same as "Little Big Planet" clothing.

If the gamer wants to purchase items for their avatar, that's entirely up to them. The prices will soon come down (or stop altogether) if the demand isn't there. Cool

I set my Avatar up a year ago and haven't paid any attention to it since. For me personally, the whole idea is a complete waste of time. I appreciate that some people may like to play with these things and I'm sure they make family friendly group games kinda fun, but I'm in games for story, atmosphere and suspence and Avatars achieve none of these.

And now, the idea to start PAYING for new costumes is just weird. Using Gears as an example, there are no doubt gonna be thousands buying these outfits. So they're paying to make their Avatar look the same as everyone else who has paid for this. Crazy stuff!

Not for me. The idea of paying for costumes in games is ridiculous - let alone little people that just decorate the front end of the dashboard. Pointless.

The less people buy these rip-off items in general the better.

I personally think that if you buy something like a 12 month XBL Gold membership, most of this stuff should free.

I can't say for sure that I won't buy any clothes - Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden) outfit would be cool.

What a crock of s***. Something that no doubt the kids will love been released from an 18 certificate game, just compounds how the stupid games makers encourage the retarded children to go and demand such crap from the demented parents.

Total waste of money too!

Other than that they sound great Wink

ookay. If people want to get these outfits i'm cool with it. But as has already been said getting outfits for having so many achievements in a game is i think a much better idea than having to pay for them.

It looks like theres going to be a lot more games that use the avatars so giving people more options for them in my mind is a good thing.

been playing 1vs 100 over the weekend and am impressed with how well it works. considering it gives you the chance to win actual prizes and costs nothing. its pretty damn good in my opinion.

There is already an arcade game giving away accessories as an extra, so I'm sure there will be full-priced games doing the same thing, they did with Gamer Pics, so I can't see why not.

If you have the points go for it, but I doubt they will be cheap (the Monkey Island stuff I saw was $3 for the le chuck outfit).

Along with Street Fighter 4s costumes and Resident Evil 5s multiplayer mode this kind of thing represents a milking of the consumer base I feel is unjustified.
If you've got money to p**s away on something that has no value, no physical presence nor benefit to yourself beyond the mild ego boost of having a game character look different to other peoples then perhaps it's time to take a long hard look at yourself and make a change.
Avatar clothing can't cost that much at all to design, the same goes for gamer pictures, yet the profit margin is huge. These features should by all rights be paid for by the XBL gold subscription and thrown in as bonus features for achievements, as many others have said.

That link... (Inc pricing)

IMO I'll buy some Monkey Island stuff. I'm a real sucker for that series (and most old skool Lucasarts).

I hope the big games have as wide a selection as Monkey Island (which is an XBLA game FFS!) then there should be enough variety around... Certainly more than the same 5 or 6 crappy free outfits that everyone in 1 vs 100 seems to wear!

Also charging money DOES mean that not just everyone will dress up as Masterchief immediately - only people who like the game enough to pay.

Also, with characters like Stan and the Swordmaster in the MI set it means not everyone will be dressed as Guybrush/LeChuck. A bit of free expression never hurt anyone. Heck, someone in a COG outfit with steampunk goggles with a Halo ring and a Monkey Island cotton bud is an interesting start!

bets on it's a one peice 'suit' as well, shame really because I know a few items a would love my avitar to have, 'parts' would be nice if we're going to get character outfits, would at least create some unique ideas (much like the LBP ones).

Would perfer unlocks via achments, would actally make the whole point syatem kinda meaningful instead of just ego pushing.

Wearable acheivements definately the best use of these - complete a game fully/pull off a particular MP feat or clear the SP campaign for exclusive wearables. Or if you're lazy go and buy some other ones...

And the *bodies* are suits (with the COG, Monkey Island ones) but the hats/helmets/eyepatches/accessories are separate. Which allows for a small amount of customization and tinkering.

In any case these represent a marked improvement over the shitty sub-sims, cheesy Gap wankathon that is the current range of clothing available.

Not keen on paying over and over, but for the odd branded T shirt or whatever this is reasonable.

Beats the hell out of those pointless gamer pics anyhoo.

And as fopr paying for something untangible and wholly virtual... You guys clearly haven't played Warcraft or the Sims (not that they are a ringing endorsent for the concept!)
