Xbox Live Indie Games prices slashed

MS introduces new pricing structure for community games
Community Games will be cheaper following their transition to 'Indie Games', as Microsoft introduces a new lower pricing structure.

Games made with the XNA-based amateur games creation platform were previously priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10/£6.80), 400 MSP ($5/£3.40) or 200 MSP ($2.50/£1.70).

However, the new prices to be implemented fully by October 22, will be set at 400 Microsoft Points ($5/£3.40), 240 MSP ($3/£2.04) and 80 MSP ($1/£0.68).

Microsoft says the changes are to bring prices of Indie games "more in-line with other products available on Xbox Live Marketplace". Only titles below 50 MB can be set at 80 Microsoft Points, MS stipulates.

The Xbox Live Creators Club has also seen the introduction of a number of new features. A new reputation system will assign developers with points and levels based on their XNA Creators Club Online activity.

Also, Japan and Germany-based devs can now submit indie games, while Japanese, German, Singapore and Swedish Xbox Live Marketplaces are now open to submissions from all developers.

More about that here.

Cool. Price cuts are always welcome. I just hope that the price cuts come out of microsoft's end, as well as the developers.

A lot of the problem is that developers can't set the price that they want, they have to use one of the point values. If developers could set whatever price THEY wanted, it would be even better.

Then again, what are the point of points? It's like having a shop in town where if you want to buy anything from them you have to convert your cash to an equivelent value of Algerian Dollars before you can spend it.

Price cuts are still welcome though :P

its a tax dodge on MSs part i think. Also i'd say its psychological. people don't mind spending points as much as cash.

It also allows venders to make a profit on them when they sell the cards at shops if they want to.

unlike PSN which uses actual money. although you can still only add money to your wallet in preset amounts. Making it no better than a points system.

I assume it's so they don't have to calculate the cost for all items across several nations and only have to worry about the value of the point packs.

Plus the sneaky little blighters have packs that aren't of the same sort of point values as things cost, so you're left with 100ms that you're forced to save to spend on another occasion.

one day microsoft points will become the global currency , then all will become clear

orwell should of spent less time writing about dystopian futures and spent more time writing on how to make a handgun out of a carrot...... much more practical
then again once microsoft take over sony they may get their programmers to work on the soft ware managing fingerprint control on the the microsoft armies guns ..........
in which case the damn things would be updating 90% of the time ..........
HES GOT A BOARD WITH A NAIL IN IT , RUN!!!!!!!!!
