Bungie: Natal wouldn't work with Halo controls

"We would have to figure out what makes sense to use Natal for," says senior designer
Project Natal was one of the more interesting developments to come from this year's E3 but how will FPS developers use it? Or is it not for them? In a recent interview Bungie told us that it's interested in the tech but not sure how it might use it yet.

"I think that Natal has some really cool technology," said senior designer Lars Brakken. "If it makes sense to use it in some way I could totally see it working, but we would have to figure out what makes sense to use Natal for.

"Obviously it doesn't make sense to use Natal for a full Halo control scheme. At least in my brain I can't think of a way for that to work right now. That doesn't mean that it can't work in the future but I think Natal could enhance things. It's so far off it's hard to think about how it could work in a Halo game."

I doubt we'll see any of the major shooters using Natal. Too risky.

Completely agree with the guy!

Implement Natal where it is an integral part of the game design rather than shoehorning it into a game as a gimmick to cash in on a new fad!!

personally i think the most intelligent use of natal would be to keep the 360 controller involved, and use natal for more story based elements such as characters being able to see what kind of mood you're in, and maybe even actually having to talk to characters, ala milo, just without the characters caring that you're sat on the sofa in your underpants.

the advantage of natal is that it can do as much or as little as you want, and can still involve the traditional pad. think about it, in a game like Need For Speed Shift, you could be sat playing the game like you normally would, but it could analyze your head movements and subtly add it to the game experience.

The ability to tap involuntary feedback will be able to work with any game. the science behind facial expressions is detailed enough that it could be used to gauge how scared or excited you are, tailoring the game to your current mood.

We could even be playing gears of war 3 online, where the characters face resembles yours and moves just like yours when you speak.

4 words:

Head-tracking psuedo-3D

Not controlling the motion, just the view. You would never need 3D glasses.

and the gaming world does not revolve around halo either.

It does at the moment. Same as it will when MW2 is released etc. etc.

What I ment was is that it does not deserve too. Halo wont work with my mobile phone either and I really could not care less.

It would of been interesting, but why change an already fantastic formula.

Check out my eBay auction for a job lot of retro consoles and games

Dosn't work with a pad either.

Mouse and Keyboard FTW!

'Halo wouldn't work with Natal controls'..instead of 'Natal wouldn't work with Halo controls'
