Halo's a great game, of that there can be no doubt, but remove the game aspect and the plot and characters aren't all that great, and would make for a fairly generic sci-fi action film (hello Doom). District 9 sounds like a far more interesting prospect, and conversely, would probably suffer were it made into a game. You certainly aren't, although I was looking forward to these projects purely because I love the Halo universe and the involvement of Peter Jackson & Neil Blomkamp.
District 9 looks very interesting though. Ah well least he is making the hobbit :D I wasn't so sure about the game, but if I had faith in anyone to make a good Halo film then it would be Peter Jackson.
He's proved that he's a master at transferring a story from one medium to another - in fact that's all he seems to be doing at the moment (see LotR, King Kong, The Lovely Bones and now Tintin). I'm pretty sure he could take it from a game.
I wasn't quite so sure about the story portrayed in Halo transferred to film either, but then I read "The Flood", and that tells you what happened from a much more cinematic point of view. (Clears throat)
NOOOOooooooooooooooo! :x
Halo + Peter Jackson and WETA = one very cool movie. A movie will happen eventually I think, though I expect Ewe Boll will manage to somehow get his talentless fingers on it and crush every Halo fans dreams.
But yeah, at least there's the Hobbit to look forward to, even though they don't duel wield SMG's... Guillermo Del Toro is helming the Hobbit films. A shame. This sounded like a brillant game when first announced, but I had a terrible feeling it was cancelled for a long time when we didn't hear anything about it. A shame. This sounded like a brillant game when first announced, but I had a terrible feeling it was cancelled for a long time when we didn't hear anything about it. Isn't Jackson producer or executive producer or something for the Hobbit though. I'm not surprised the Halo:Chronicles has gone under, but what took so long for someone to tell us? I bet Microsoft were just pretending it was still going ahead to add another +1 in the console war. how much material could you really get out a faceless space marine anyway?! Judging from the books and comics (and upcoming Halo legends short films), quite a bit. Don't rise to it. that was just fabricated by the creative comic writers, a spin-off.
or did they consult they all mighty halo bible.
a list of invented facts because they had no actual heritage.
most buffs like to absorb subtle things through years of content. a bit cheesy to invent them first then apply in a retro manner. Nooooooooooo! I had so hoped the teaser video was merely a low-budget taste of what was to come. Granted, since I haven't watched "District 9" yet it might get some of the "bang", but I am not optimistic of this. The whole draw for me was to see the "Halo" universe come to life in a movie theater. Futuristic sci-fi war movies are just about a dime a dozen. :( Ditto. If you take a moment to think about it everything, at some point, had "no heritage" when you go back far enough...Unless you know things that go beyond the "Big Bang Theory" that the collective human scientific community doesn't? Even things that seem to have a heritage today can be classified as such by the very fact that they are dependant upon that heritage to exist which in turn was dependant upon some other thing, and so on and so forth, until you get to the very beginning. What came before then? Well, I know the books are written with Bungie's supervision so that facts, timelines and whatnot all work. Not sure about the comics, but they probably are too.
Don't quite follow you with the 'invented facts' statement- of course they're 'invented facts', that's what fiction is. The games, books, graphic novel and Halo Legends will be/are all canon.
And yes, believe it or not some of these writers actually made some things up to make an entertaining fiction game...shock horror. |
