GTA IV: Ballad of Gay Tony out Oct 29

Second GTA IV episode gets a date
Rockstar's confirmed that GTA IV's second Xbox 360 exclusive episode, Ballad of Gay Tony, will be released via Xbox Live October 29.

"As Luis Lopez, part-time hoodlum and full-time assistant to legendary nightclub impresario Tony Prince (aka Gay Tony), players will struggle with the competing loyalties of family and friends, and with the uncertainty about who is real and who is fake in a world in which everyone has a price," says the official blurb.

1600 MS points is the asking price for the download version of the Ballad of Gay Tony (which requires the GTA IV disc to run), and it'll also be released bundled with The Lost and Damned in the Episodes from Liberty City retail box (which can run without GTA IV), out on the same day for £34.99.

the retail box doesn't need a copy of GTA does it for any reason? i traded mine in, but will definitely pick up both episodes on the retail box, don't like digital downloads. wish it came out during the summer instead
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
nope the episodes box doesn't need GTA IV to work. HEard its only going to be around the £20-£30 mark. Bloody bargain if you ask me. Lost and The Damned was worth that by itself.

Man this feels like an eternity! Alongside Mass Effect, GTA is the game I can't get enough of this gen.

Ten pounds says it's going to get delayed.

That lady looks a bit mannish! I predict a "Crying Game" moment!

Glad I never picked up LATD when it came out, now that they are releasing both as a standalone, I'll save my pennies.
GTA 4 was brilliant, and I still haven't completed it.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
sounds a lot better than the last one.

a bit like vice city.

hope the rumoured next DLC shows up, was based to be based on the irish mccreary's. characters from the main game. so that could be integrated into the base game. no seperate launch.
Posted by StonecoldMC
Without a doubt GTA IV is up there with my fave Games of all time.

The chance to dive back into Liberty City and experience it from a different angle is just to good an opportunity to turn down.

Download on Day 1!

I got really bored with TLAD really quickly, not sure if I'll bother prancing around with gay Tony

I hope there aren't any campers online!
Posted by ricflair
I seriously loved GTAIV, but L&D just didn't do it for me - I didn't think the characters were very good. Actually, I didn't give two hoots about them and thought they were useless. The game felt fresh though with the DLC, bikes controlled well etc, just something wasn't there for me.

I'm not normally that bothered about story/character in games, but just couldn't get in to L&D. It's the only game I own I haven't completed - I'm sure I will sometime soon.

That said, I'm sure I'll buy the next one.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
ba dum cha!

Hope they are going to make an episode focusing on the Irish guys. Could be a good epilogue to the main game.
Posted by ensabahnur
i don't know what you mean by separate launch? character models aren't gonna be that big a file. its the cutscenes, dialogue and added extra's like new music tracks, weapons and vehicles that need to be added that need a separate launch. and this is all still just rumour that there's gonna be a DLC featuring the McCreary's (though they would be daft not to use them for one).

anyway, finally finished TLAD on monday. best DLC ever, now i've just got to wait until october for the next one. at least i've got the gang wars and bike races to finish but after that i'll need to go back to Niko to try get everything done there (pigeons and stunt jumps).

it is still a poor show that PS3 users are missing out on this for now. timed exclusives are the devils work! everyone should be able to get their hands on this and the Fallout DLC just to see that we should be demanding more for our money for add on's and not just one level & a new outfit
Posted by svd_grasshopper
its called blood and a four leaf clover.

least it wont feel like a tack-on.
Posted by Miss_Wacy
LOL, anywhoo im lookin forward too it, love gta 4 and the first ep
Posted by ensabahnur
thats been around since before TLAD. whether it'll come to light is another thing. and i'm sure once TLAD comes out for the PS3 you won't feel it's a tack-on (or are you just dissing it cause its not out on your machine of choice yet?). Johnny's story fills the gaps in Niko's, like when you go to pick the diamonds up from the trash it was Johnny who put them there. just as i'm sure the new guy's story will have the same effect on both Johnny's and Niko's story's.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
even someone in this post says it feels a tack-on, despite loving the rest of the game.

theres no gaps filled. anyone could have added in that later. far from integral.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
i thought the entire point of DLC was that it was tacked on. You know Extra.
Posted by ensabahnur
thats someone's personal opinion and they didn't say anything about it being tacked on . they just said they felt nothing for the characters. i certainly didn't feel like it was a tack on, it felt like a fresh new take on Liberty City. as i'm sure TBGT will be as well.
and why fill in the gaps later? its part of Johnny's story.
Posted by Black Mantis
Exactly. If you don't like the story/characters, it's down to personal preference. If they do release the rumoured multi-platform dlc, I doubt they'll do anything majorly different to what we've seen on the exclusive ones.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
but not that it feels tacked-on. hasty like.

using characters that were seen in the main game for all of 2 minutes, then 'bringing them to life' smacks of spin off.

if packie and co. comes back, it wont feel like that.
Posted by Black Mantis
If you played through L&D, you'd know it feels nothing of the sort.
Posted by ensabahnur
it probably won't feel like a new story if its the same characters used over and over again. they need to add to it or its just gonna start feeling stale and i think they pulled that off with TLAD. going at it from a different angle is refreshing and if they do decide to use the MCreary's for a future DLC they'll need to keep it fresh and not have us repeating missions like Four Leaf Clover. the missions with johnny and niko are always played from a different angle and they never drive together whereas any mission with niko and packie usually invovled niko driving ther and back.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
ricflair himself said the characters we no good.

possibly because they feel tacked on. which makes it feel less endearing.

you could take any one of the random characters and branch out into a new story.
Posted by Black Mantis
Which is his personal opinion, not gospel. I prefer Niko and his friends myself, but I've seen a lot of people state the opposite.
Posted by sas0875
Are you gonna buy it then Grassy?
Posted by svd_grasshopper
i think they, on purpose choose to flesh out characters which were seen very little in the main game so ps3 owners didnt feel like they were missing anything from the base game and that they were being short-changed, given the shady 50m DLC deal.

returning back to the mccreary's for DLC every IV fan can play sounds right. it will feel like more of a continuation of the story rather than a branched out side story. dont say thats bull.
Posted by Black Mantis
A much better explanation, but I wouldn't start guessing as to whether any additional dlc will continue the story.
Posted by ensabahnur
right, ok. thats why the DLC will probably be released on PS3 by the end of the year. why does everything come back to this for you. change the bloody record. yes i believe that the exclusive deals were a bit bad (as they all are,Ghostbusters anyone?) and that everyone should get the chance to play them, but i don't make up stupid facts just to get my opinion out there. the DLC that is released will be the same on all machines. do you think that Rockstar would release something they themselves weren't happy with. do you really think that if it was the other way round the PS3 would have gotten better DLC?

if it continues the story after the end of the McCreary chapter then it'll be good but its still gonna be just another side story. but thats the beauty of GTA4, its the city thats the star, all the characters are there to do is to provide a reason to get around it.
as i've said already when TLAD and the new one come out on PS3 you'll be lapping it up. first day purchase? probably.
Posted by Conkers
All of this translates as ‘waaaah waaaah waaaah’, I’m sure it’ll eventually come out on PS3 in one form or another, will you not buy it? You’ll be missing out if you do and you’ll probably miss your nose, imagine the mess if you got a cold.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
johnny was someone you just met.

packie and co you had many missions with. im sure they will continue more of the plot over than finding a bad of diamonds in a bin.

the DLC wont be on ps3 by years end. nothing like it.

the lost and damned looks pish. the gay tony one looks much better.
Posted by ricflair
It wasn't that it felt tacked on per se, or that that would even be a problem. I expected it to explore a different branch of the story otherwise it would have been too predictable, what with it running alongside *Nico's story.

There is so much to do in the DLC (even though I haven't finished it), it would probably stand up as a stand alone game compared to the single player of some games that are released. Even when I stopped playing it, it LC still felt fresh and new and this was due to TLAD, going through the city as *Nico felt the same as it always did.

To be honest I can't even remember the missions from TLAD really (but felt the missions in GTAIV weren't THAT memorable in pure gaming terms), I just didn't have any inclination to see how Johnny's story unfolded. I did think the delivery of the whole rebellious cycle gang thing was pretty clichéd and not up to R*'s usual standards.

There were a lot of good games released in February for me, so it lost the battle for my gaming time.

And this is just my opinion: FACT!

edit: obviously I meant Niko, there were no smack addicted German chanteuses in my copy of GTAIV.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
lol. I think the best way to describe LATD is that its basically the closest thing we've seen so far to a game of 'Sons of Anarchy'. It just worked wonderfully. As has already been said previously GTA IVs star aren't the people wandering round it it's liberty city.

The fact of the matter is that R* could continue to release new episodes for as long as they want and they wouldn't need to have anything to do with the events of GTA IV just set in the same place. IF they did it right R* could be onto making the Pulp fiction of videogames.
Posted by ricflair
That is bang on as far as I'm concerned.
Posted by ensabahnur
exactly. they could throw a whole new batch of characters at us and it would fit. **** they could probably transfer the whole GTA3 story over to the new Liberty and it would still work(with minor story location changes). its the city that makes the game. they could do anything with it.
Posted by metallicorphan
i am actually undecided whether TLAD was better than the main GTA4 story, loved it to bits...just riding around Liberty city on your chopper with your gang following you with The Doors(or Bon Jovi- wanted dead or alive) playing was a great experience

looking forward to this day one

sucks to be Sony
Posted by svd_grasshopper
it'll suck to be microsoft when everyones playing agent. a real exclusive. not timed.
Posted by Conkers
It won’t suck to be either company, you silly boys.
Posted by dorian2011
and the slimy grasshopper emerges from the basement to bum sony more  wow agent an exclusive? how many times have we heard that in the past? remember when the ps3 was first announced? exclusives were tekken 6, final fantasy, devil may cry 4, resident eveil 5 and others sony said aswell so it mite come to 360 u never know, lord knows it will sell more so they would be stupid not to realease it on 360, and one final thing where were u in that article on 360 rise of sale on friday? haha o
Posted by VirtualCrack
Let me guess; the McCreary's DLC will be appearing on PS3? You are so transparent.

LATD was top-notch DLC. It was innovative and brought a lot of new stuff to the table. For example, driving around in packs was brilliant and not having to do a failed mission entirely from the beginning vastly improved the game. If this had appeared on PS3 you would be singing an entirely different tune.

This whole 'tacked-on' argument is pathetic and totally disingenuous. It smacks of straw-clutching.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
the 360 couldnt get agent even if it wanted though... DVD wont be enough. no money had to change hands. ps3 is just the best console for the job.

and when was devil may cry 4, resident evil 5 ever ps3 exclusives? never.
Posted by VirtualCrack
They could always use multiple DVDs, as you well know.
Posted by sas0875
Agent???

yet another exclusive that will struggle to sell a million copies.

Do you not know that the majority of people only buy PS3 as a movie player? got a deal with their TV usually.

A few like you Grassybopper of course. Sworn enemy of the Microsoft Corp and master of the Sony Defence Force. Dum Dum Dum.....
Posted by svd_grasshopper
agent is an espionage sandbox game developed by rockstar north. only 360 fanboys would says it'll be crap.

its being developed specifically for the ps3. they wont be held back like the cross-platform GTAIV. thats why they choose the ps3.
Posted by sas0875

Swap a DVD = 2-5 secs
Bluray = install, load. Chapter 2, install, load etc etc...

Bluray = the future of gaming....ha ha
Posted by sas0875
Who said it would be crap? If is good I will buy it for my DVD player (PS3).

Just dont expect miracles...most PS3 owners dont care or play games.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
how do you split a sandbox into a few DVDs... you cant.

thats why 360 isnt getting it. you can swap DVDs till your blue in the face...
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
Devil May Cry 4 was when it was first announced. So was Final Fantasy XIII and Tekken 6 and a long list of other games Sony managed to bungle the deals for.

The 360 could handle agent. It could be a download only game on LIVE. Wouldn't even have to put a disc in or install anything, just download and go.
Posted by dorian2011
lol no sony exclusive will reach a million sales, i doubt uncharted 2 will either as most gamers will be buying mw2 so i can see that being barely top 3 lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R98qC0fd_1w&feature=PlayList&p=5A3D722650A8B905&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=10 haha look at that it made me laugh
Posted by svd_grasshopper
MGS4 sold over 4 million sales. dont be a retard.
Posted by VirtualCrack
Swapping a DVD mid-game is exactly the same principle as installing each chapter for MGS4. Multiple disks have been used for many generations, including by Sony.

You might not be able to get your head around how to integrate disk-swapping into a sandbox game, but I guarantee you game developers will.

Overall, bluray is a better format but it's not as clear-cut as you like to make out. As everyone knows, the disk-reading speed is very slow, so games usually have to be installed (sometimes multiple times in-game as mentioned above), making the PS3 more like a PC - albeit a low spec one - which negates one of the main advantages of a console over a PC. Although even with the PC, I never remember having to install chapters in-game.

"Posted by svd_grasshopper

--------------------------------------------------

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Seriously, get a life you loser. Yes, Agent is probably going to be very good as we are all aware of R* North's past accomplishments. If they wanted to make it for the 360, they would be able to via the Hdd, or just swapping the disc over after about 20 hrs of play or so. Bothered. I'm sure I can live with that.

Who cares though? The 360 had loads of great exclusive titles, as does the PS3.

I can't remember who stated it above but they were right, your arguments are so transparent and 1 dimensional that they carry very little weight.

Grow up.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
in a sandbox game you need to have the full game world available at any given moment.

MGS is level based. the world isnt connected, the levels have to be loaded beforehand.

idiotic comment.
Posted by ricflair
That would be one mother of a download! Even if it was only say 12GB. Eariler this year they said average downloads were 3.6mb/sec, which would mean it would take 10 hours to download and crucify any poor sap with download limits.

I'm sure some poor sod would try and do it while on holiday abroad through their 3g dongle and get hit with a bill for £30k!
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
Thats true MGS4 has sold 4 million copies. Despite showing us the limitations of the PS3.

Having to wait 8 minutes when i first put the game on while it installs and then having to wait a couple minutes between chapters for it to install even more data. Then it still has relatively long load times even though its been installed onto the system.

Takes the piss a little.

Especially considering Bungie explicitly told people not to install Halo 3 on the 360 when the option became available as it would actually slow the game down.

I don't mind installing games if it will improve performance. But when it doesn't you have to ask yourself whats wrong with either the console or the devs that make the games for it.

Considering that most multiplatform still games need installing on the PS3 and even then only load at the same speed and sometimes slower than the same game that hasn't been installed on the ps3 you have to admit, the problems with the hardware not the software. Don't get me wrong i love a lot of the exclusives on the ps3 HEavenly sword unchartered and LBP rate as some of the best games i've played this gen. But the PS3 itself is an unweildly lump, that excels more as a video player than a games console.
Posted by nottsville
Amazing....another thread about a game coming out that descends into a console bashing!

I'll be amazed when something on this site manages to stay on topic.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
and 360 as a machine is an utter peice of shit.

cheap and tacky. prone to more problems than a russian lada. old technology made sure it got no MGS4, no agent.

i'll live with installs if it means my machine actually works.

360 made ID chop rage up into hubs. least we dont have to change discs, still affected the game with your bacwards tech.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
True, but going by the size of the installs on the 360 the new games on demand service is going to likely have downloads of roughly 6Gb a game. unless they decide to compress them in some way.
Posted by Moribundman
@grasshopper Thank you for making me smile as usual. Your funny pidgin English and Sony genuflecting always brighten up an otherwise shitty day.

Of course the only points you ever essentially make are "I like Sony/dislike Microsoft" and "I have a complex about anyone with different gaming hardware being happier than I am about something".

You are the funniest troll on this board because you actively seek out articles on exclusives for the Xbox purely to justify (for your own benefit as much as anyone else's IMO) why "it's okay" that a developer has overlooked your cherished doorstop.

Please keep posting. You make the day a little brighter. :-)
Posted by svd_grasshopper
what dev overlooked the ps3?!

360 got DLC episodes because they paid 50m for them. and they will end up being up ps3 eventually. so waste of money if they thought that would be the big system seller they thought.

MGS4 and agent bypassed 360 because of space issues. cramming in an old DVD drive is seeming like a mistake now.

Very good point! The majorrity of people in Europe have internet connections of 7MBS, and the US 3MBS. I wonder if they do use some kind of comresssion technique?

Hmmm, that's got me thinking..
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
I'm guessing you got a launch model PS3, like i've got. Don't you find the six axis controller feels a lil cheap and light. like a childs plaything.

The 360 controller on the other hand is a weighty confortable mans controller.

Also if the ps3 is the future how come its so god damn slow.

I think i'll continue to live in the past if it means that i don't have wait for things to constantly update and install every five minutes.

The360 works a hell of a lot better than the PS3.

you are good for a laugh grasshopper.
Posted by VirtualCrack
You are the idiot: you are actually trying to suggest that it is impossible to use multiples disks in a sandbox game.

Also I didn't suggest MGS4 was a sandbox game (or for that matter, that it isn't 'level-based'), I was discussing the priniciple of installing a game.

Idiotic comment.
Posted by svd_grasshopper
MS and their usual whoring. wringing every penny out of that 50m deal.

DLC on a disc! what will it be like, the start menu...

choose either johnny biker or gay tony to begin.

and i got a white jap ps3 pad. £37 delivered. cheaper than uk ones. and no battery pack charge kit to buy! :o
Posted by svd_grasshopper
well how, in principle, do you run a sandbox game on multiple discs?

you would need to install to HDD and MS dont allow games on the shelf that NEED a hard drive.

therefore sandbox on multiple discs cant be done.

drive over the bridge for a mission, half way it stops INSERT DISC. then 2 minutes later on returning over the bridge INSERT DISC again?

defeats the purpose.
Posted by dorian2011
lol its probz only a white controller cause youve spunked on it so much wanking over gt5
Posted by Moribundman
Can anyone with a PS3 attest to Grasshopper's community spirit... I mean is he a good team player, enjoying the fine array of PS3 titles with lots of friends, or is he more of a wild-eyed street preacher type, wandering around Home shouting at everyone about how hateful the Xbox is and how Sony should invent a virus that kills Microsoft FOREVER?

I certainly know which his online persona lends itself to.
Posted by Moribundman
LOL. So true.

Didn't even need "over GT5". I suppose he must coat his actual PS3 and living room with some sort of polythene sheet...

What an utterly redundant piece of trivia that joypad remark was.

I have two white controllers Grasshopper. One of them is wired and plugs into my Xbox. The other is wireless and does not plug in. It has batteries.

I also have a pretty plastic guitar which can be used with a musical game and a little white camera. The guitar is ALL SORTS of pretty colours. I have a lead that connects my television to my Xbox. My carpet is grey.

Aaaah. I could make irrelevant points about peripherals and colours all day long... :-P

You remind me of Brick from Anchorman with your wonderful posts.

grasshopper loves PS3...... and lamp.

I thin you can find him on the corner of 5th and killzone every firday night wearing a sandwich board that says MS shite. waving sign that says praise hirai, while reading from a copy of the PS3 instruction manual that he's crewdly scrawled his innane ramblings on.

SVD there has already been many an open world game which used multiple discs. i'll point you in the direction of The Nomad Soul which split the city into sectors and you occasionally had to swap when you came to a new one. Didn't break the feel of the game at all.

Or if you go back further i remember that heindal on the amiga used multiple discs while you were wandering round different parts of valhalla.

And MS have already let games that require a hard drive to be put on store shelves. both the expansions for oblivion and the soon to be released Fallout 3 expansions will be HDD only titles.

as usual my friend you show us you don't know what you're talking about.
Posted by Moribundman
Oh, be fair WMM... He knows *all about* the PS3 stuff he froths over. Or at least he half does.

As far as Xbox stuff (or spelling) is concerned he is completely clueless.

Grasshopper, you don't own an Xbox, and seemingly all of your posts rely on somewhat out of date references to RROD or the fact that MS hasn't adopted Blu Ray... I don't own a PS3 so it is not my place to comment on whether or not it is technically comparable to the 360 outside of the Blu Ray drive... You seem genuinely concerned that more people might like the Xbox; that people who own both use the PS3 for movies and the odd exclusive and the Xbox for "proper" gaming.

I also don't own a Wii... Do you spout your freakery in those forums too?

You might want to consider a Wii, since the games are not so online-focused and you wouldn't have to cry about your shitty Tiscali connection and gaming sites Xbox bias every five minutes...

Seeing as you seem so proud to point out that it will probably come to PS3, I ask you one simple question, if and when the 'tacked on' DLC comes to PS3, will you be buying it?

Yes or no only please, we don't need any more hate filled rhetoric from you.
