Bayonetta delayed to 2010

Will anyone dare release a game near Modern Warfare 2?
Sega has delayed the western release of its promising-looking action game Bayonetta to 2010 in order to "maximise" its potential, says the company line.

The game will still launch on October 29 in Japan, but Platinum Games and Sega won't let the PS3 and Xbox 360 game see daylight until January 2010 over here.

"Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for Sega and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio," said Mike Hayes, president of Sega West. "As a result of market analysis we have taken a publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the western markets to maximise this exciting new title's potential."

Could it have anything to do with a certain Call Of Duty game that's due out in November? Other big name games that have also been delayed recently include BioShock 2, Max Payne 3, Mafia II and Singularity. What's next?

I don't blame them!

I think too many developers are getting a bit anxious about MW2 release, hm.

Well if you don't like Call of Duty there's not really loads to look forward to this Christmas.

This is an awkward situation that companies like SEGA (yea they've been all over the place but its SEGA) are changing their release stragey because of another game. It shows the how the industry has become more main stream but also shows that the lack of depth in general awareness.

The risks involved these days are to big for smaller companies.

I know this is an age old argument but the wealth within the games industry need to be distributed better. Costs need to come down with retail prices to allow smaller companies to mix it with the big boys.

I'm not sure if that would work but I'm afraid that games that are different are not going to arrive like they did.

Support the indies! Not for them or you but for the future!

Just wanted to start a debate, not looking to preach.

Smart move. It certainly is stupid to release new IPs and games during the winter over last few years, certainly this year with the two biggest franchises game releasing; Modern Warfare 2 and Halo:ODST so its not worth releasing games like this during the months of games like this which are nearly certain to sell millions and likly to drawf other releases.

this is getting ridiculous. i guess all we'll be playing at xmas is mw2. On the plus side at least they'll be plenty to play in the long jan-mar drought
Posted by Slacher007
who gives a flying f*ck.

i'll be getting uncharted 2 at roughly the same time COD is released

Yet another 'potentially' great game delayed till 2010, that year is going to cost me a fortune.
Posted by Mark240473
There are more great games coming out early 2010 than there are before xmas! Doesn't this mean that Bayonetta could potentially sell less games, now that it has been moved to January?

:?

I wouldn't mind, but I'm not really bothered about MW2....

:(

I will now definitely be buying only 4 games between now and 2010. Until last week, it was 7!

The lack of general awareness is the issuse here the mass market in western areas r all for first person shooters and im sure come november people will still ask instore if MW2 is the Call Of Duty sequel LOL. A new ip has little chance of success, other than to the hardcore audience who r well informed of its potential.

In the end im glad come the new year each month should have a killer A title. Last year was grt with GTA 4 and the holy grail of MGS4. And 2010 i think will be the best year yet 4 us gamers look at all the quality on both 360 and ps3 then followed by the debatiable motion war to cap it off roll on the GOOD TIMES :P LOL

Agreed, presuming that is the main reason for these recent shifts in launch dates. At this rate enough large titles will end up releasing around the same time resulting in the usual oversaturation of the market which could be just as damaging as launching around the time of MW2. Now if it's due to legitimate technical reasons that's another matter...

The exact same sentiment can be found in the global village regarding the equity, or lack thereof, of the distribution of wealth and resources. Sadly things don't appear to be changing there anytime soon, so while the gaming industry is a smaller arena I still won't be holding my breath.

This is getting on my nerves now I don't give a flying f++k about modern warfare so every game I've been looking forward to has now been shafted by this piece of s++t.

If arkham asylum get's knocked back I will actually go ballistic.

Not sure all of these are slipping due to MW2 to be honest. Although I understand the argument for not releasing near a likely 'big seller', this idea is at odds with the fact that Christmas is boom time for games. As someone else noted by the time some of these delayed titles appear they will have several rivals instead of just 1 or 2. MW2 will no doubt be hugely popular but with all the 'expendable' income flying around when the fat guy in red season starts, people's appetite may not be satisfied with one game.

Could CVG be jumping to conclusions? Hmmmmm

And people thought that the end of this year was going to be Halo OSDT vs Uncharted 2. Looks like its COD: MW2 verses everything!

Console exclusives beware, it's COD: MW2 vs the market. Def getting COD: MW2 and Uncharted 2, if I had my Xbox then prob Halo OSDT but as to the other games which were put back, they would prob not have been on my list anyway as Im not a millionaire :(

Wow I honestly don't know what to say. As someone previously said 2010 is going to be a damn expensive year for games. 2k are releasing 3 or 4 I am going to buy and then various other games are released around the same time. It is almost as if they are shifting all the Christmas releases to Spring 2010 which means we will get another Christmas 2008 but moved on a couple of months.

Actually I can think of some releases about Christmas which may interest me including Batman, Ruse and a few others of course as well as COD.

This year (hopefully,) for the PC I've currently pre-ordered the new "Wolfenstein", "Alpha Protocol", "Borderlands" and "MW2". I would have pre-ordered "Dragon Age: Origins" but until I read early adopters' feedback regarding the new DRM system EA has implemented I'm not touching that game with a pole.

For the Xbox 360 I think I'll likely purchase "Batman: Arkham Asylum", "Forza 3" and perhaps pick up some other games already released as time (I have a good handful of Xbox 360 games I have barely scratched the surface on to play through,) and money allows (I like getting a good discount).

****ING COD! It's possibly the worst thing to happen to gaming in years, and now its fucjking up what was going to be an awesome holiday seasons worth of gaming.

Least i'll have more time to play brutal legend.
Posted by shellster2
it's as if publishers other than activision think everyone will only buy 1 game in the christmas season! i always end up with at least half a dozen titles around that time. buying MW2 is a given though
Posted by Barca Azul
The first half of next year is starting to get crowded. Lots of publishers are delaying titles to try and get the low season peak for games, it’s a bit strange though.
Posted by Marlonjb
That's if it's not knocked back first which I'm half expecting!
Posted by jazzy_p
Thirded on how damn annoying it is,
Retailers and publishers should not be scared by a piece of crap fps.
Posted by ricflair
I don't think I'll be buying MW2, certainly not on release. VGChartzsays CoD4 has sold 7.6m copies out of 30m (or whatever it is) 360s.

Publishers, not everybody wants to play CoD!! And don't forget, in many places across the globe people choose to celebrate a christian festival by buying gifts for one another. And for all the publishers pushing releases back to 2010; it's christmas, not easter!

I still haven't got around to getting CoD4. Mainly because the second hand price is still stupidly high and people have been playing it for ages, I'm sure I'll just get nailed online!

Yes some pretty damn good games coming out for the PC. Dragon Age is one which I will definately be buying as long as Batman: AA. Fair few not large releases I think I may be interested in too such as NFS Shift, Operation Flashpoint 2, Dirt 2 and more. See plenty coming out and to be honest the extra time between releases will actually allow me to get a job before hand to fund it all haha!

Ah yes! I forgot about Ops Flashpoint 2! One to keep an eye on. I'm hoping it will be more fine polished than ArmA 2.

Good luck with the job hunting. :)

Ahh I should imagine it will be much more polished but fundamentally different. Animations are far more polished in Op 2 than ARMA 2 anyway.

Cheers buddy let you know if I find anything haha!

I'm not a modern warfare fan to be honest so this is a disspointment that another game has been put back to 2010

August = Batman Arkham Asylum
September = Halo 3:ODST, Section 8
November = Assassins Creed 2

Bioshock 2 was supposed to be realised in October and Bayonetta not to sure what the realise date was supposed to be for that, So im only buying 1 game around xmas as novembers the closest time to xmas
Posted by wiikii007
But, what about people like me who couldn't care to hoots about MW2?!
Posted by blind_fools
whats next indeed, uncharted 2? R&C ACIT?
mags suposingly been delayed to.
this is really starting to piss me off.
and seriously is january 2010 any better?
mag might be coming then.
heavy rain is suppose to be coming then.
GT5 could be coming then.
sonys got 4 exclusives to release between january and march.
not to mention other games that have been recently delayed.
mafia 2 is suppose to come out in january.
that game will shit all over bayonetta.
theres only 3 games coming in november i want.
MW2 assassins creed 2 and splinter cell conviction.
so for ****s sake if i see another game delayed till next year the worlds gona evaporate.
Posted by WHERESMYMONKEY
you do mean january 2012 for GT5. thats game might as well be vapourware.

I thought heavy rain was out in march too.

least there's still Batman, ODST, brutal legend, mario bros wii and spirit tracks to look forward to for sure.

Not so certain about God Of war 3 and uncharted 2 though.

If all the morons didn't buy the crap that is CoD each year, then maybe other games would get released. There's nothing for me to buy for the 360 (now that Bioshock 2 has been delayed) save for maybe Tekken 6. Halo and CoD are two of the most boring franchises out there for me. Only stupid Xbox morons love that crap cos they don't know any better.

Oh well, looks like its Tekken 6 and New Super Mario Bros for me this Xmas. Good job anyway, I've got quite a few games to finish as it is

Damn , damn and friggin damn. I just posted regarding Borderlands. Then someone here mentions unchartered 2. Why don't they release games all year round. I think someone needs to tell them there is 12 months in the year not just silly season. But I guess publishers don't want to spend the money on advertising. I seen the trailer for this and went the action is mad but I can see people buying it, the only problem I see for it is god3. But I think it is a good move to move it. Not too sure about you guys but I can only afford ONE game per month and even then, money is quite tight.Publishers listen too us you do want our hard earned cash.
