Halo 3: ODST (Xbox 360) Halo: Reach (Xbox 360) New IP (or maybe a Marathon remake?) (Xbox 360) New Halo (next Xbox)
...unless they're being sneaky and are buying into this "Natal IS the next Xbox" stance MS are taking. Last Halo game for the 360? Slack *******s!! Last Halo game for the 360? Slack *******s!! Can you please title your articles correctly?, "Last 360 game", I mean wtf?, But they need to attract fanboys to comment! That is a wtf title though. For shame CVG, for shame. I make it 3 titles from Bungie for the 360: Halo 3; Halo 3 ODST & Halo Reach.
Bungie might be finished with Halo on the 360 after the next 2 Games are released but id bet you a Dollar that we see another MS Halo Game from Bungie, albeit on the new (whenever that is) MS console.
Still, MS seem to be putting a lot of faith in 343 Industries and with the talent available there I trust the Halo Franchise is in good hands (Frank O'Connor is leading the Team after all). The fact that I thought a developer was shutting up shop was daunting when I first read the title, I was like well Bungie wont go Playstation-Side, it isnt in there interests, so they'd be closing?. And then I was like, oh finally ending Halo franchise, okay.. that's slightly better.
But still CVG, WTF indeed. lol. »
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought MS still owned a very small minority share in Bungie, so we won't ever see any of their games on another platform (unless MS agree...iPhone, anyone?) »»
I was actually going to say that, but I thought everyone really new that Bungie was controlled slightly by MS, Doubt it would be in there interest to work on a Playstation title though, even if they don't have any influence from MS. So what are they going to do until the NEXT GEN in 2015? You can't control something 'slightly'. You either are in control, or you're not. if MS own say 20% of Bungie now and the other 80% of the shareholders say 'look, we want you to make a game for the PS3 because there's money in it' then Bungie will make games for the PS3. it may not be in MS's interests for them to do so, but what the majority of shareholders say goes. This is exactly what happened with Halo in the first place - they were making it for the PC/Mac and MS bought a majority shareholding and said 'no, you make it for our new console' and so they did.
If MS own 49.9% of Bungie or less, they're not in control any more. The less of Bungie they own, the less say they have in what Bungie do. That's how capitalism works. If they have 10% or so, they practically have no say at all.
As for it not being 'in Bungies interests' to work on a PS3 game - it will be if they can make a profit doing so, it won't be if they can't. It's that simple. I can't imagine whoever is actually in charge of Bungie now would give up on making money to save MS's feelings. I also think if MS come up with a great new FPS franchise that blows Halo out of the water, they'll publish it without a second thought and Bungie's bottom line be damned.
This is business, for crying out loud. Some of you guys really don't seem to have a clue how the real world works.
Jon Calm down jon! There are millions of other comments on CVG that deserve a dressing down more than this thread!
They're a privately owned company, so we don't know what stake MS have or what agreements are in place. And you can have lots of input and sway at 49.9%, you are only screwed if a single other entity owns the rest of the shares.
When they said 'not in their interest' I assumed they were referring to having lots of experience with the 360 and next to nothing with the PS3 until they split - whether that means its not in the interest depends on the individuals involved I guess.
Shame on you CVG, that is either really scraping the bottom of the barrel for flamebait to feed the advertising coffers or just very lazy journalism. as far as im aware, ms let bungie go, but still own all the shares in the company, they just gave them creative control do what they want when it comes to games and let them brake away from ms in a controlling nature.
MS own the halo franchise and anything bungie care to make afterwards and they have 1st refusals on anything, anything ms dont like bungie have the right to ask another publisher to step in, but it's only going to be for 360 and pc windows platforms, with maybe ds, iphone, zune aswell. guess wel have to wait till the next xbox then I thought Bungie had previously said that ODST was going to be their last Halo game as they wanted to do something different?
Anyway, if MS still have shares in Bungie and Bungie produce a game for the PS3, where will that leave the fanboys? If the game is good does well on the PS3, then MS profit. Can fan boys on either side deal with that? ;) Fair enougth I guess. They would have made three consecutive titles in a franchise for a single platform which is more than most devs would commit to on one machine nowdays. You can't ask for much more really. jon, you have a valid point but i think you're reading language too literally. if anything you kind of blew it out of proportion with your speech. he probably just meant that MS has "influence" and not slight control, because that would make more sense to say anyway. Probably in the same way of Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters as a brand is owned by Sony Pictures so for every copy that is sold on Xbox & Wii Sony see a slice of that money! Haven't I read a similar comment from Bungie on CVG's website before ODST and Reach were announced? It's deja vu all over again... :P
Jon is right on most of his points, although Ric nicely points out that it also depends on how much company stock other parties are in control of. Finally, in regards to profit, there too it will depend on *how much* profit can be made. If for example there is only a 5% profit margin after the project it might be of more interest to explore alternatives, even completely new IPs. bout time Jon, you see I do know how it happens in the real world, since I worked for 2 game development companies, one in the US and one in the UK -- I do actually see it more clearer then you?
Bungie would not go do anything on the Playstation 3 platform, simply because they do not really know much about it, I mean the learning curve for a development studio, on a new console - Is quite large, it involves a fair amount of work to actually even get on the runway in terms of developing something for a new console they have never touched before.
In terms of the share stuff, I do believe it is in Bungies best interest to keep those friendships and connections with Microsoft, thus it is not in there interest to actually do something for the PS3, as it could potentially hurt such connections and friendships. Microsoft do have quite a lot of influence on what Bungie does, but as people have stated if MS rejects an idea from Bungie, they can go look for another publisher, however that would hurt a bit of MS/Bungie relationship, and also MS help with the purse-strings, so bungie wouldn't really think on doing that anyway, It is all a pile of catch 22.
But don't make assumptions on me, with this crap
When 1)You do not know me, 2) Please read #1.
Thanks ;) »Jon, you see I do know how it happens in the real world, since I worked for 2 game development companies, one in the US and one in the UK -- I do actually see it more clearer then you?

Just one thing I want to question: The part in bold is pure speculation. While a logical assumption, short of you having sat in on behind-closed-doors board meetings with MS and Bungie, you have no way of knowing what Bungie might, or might not, do in regards to future platform specific projects. None of us do I wager. As far as I was aware, since the Bungie/MS split, MS has "first say" on whether or not to publish any future Bungie games. So, in a sense, they still have a lot of control over Bungie, in that I very much doubt MS would allow a brilliant-looking game from Bungie to be published on a rival console. Oh god, there goes KFD banging on again about how amazing he thinks he is and about how much he loathes and despises the PS3! christ sake pal move on yeah, get a social life or something! What's that, Bunny? More sour grapes and a severe case of self-loathing, insecurity from you? If you could pull yourself away from your irrational obsession that all comments must in some way malign Sony and apply whatever modicum of reason you may be in possession of, you might realise that my comment actually leaves the door open for the *possibility* (not guaranteed fact, mind you) for Bungie to explore other platforms. That could include the PS3 although I personally doubt it at this point in time. Yet again you let your own angst and SDF fanboy-ism lead you astray. How very predictable and boorish as ever. Have you ever heard the term 'veto'? Funny... KFD could also try and pull himself away from his xbot fanboyism and stop picking on the ps3 fanboys. But like all good fanboys they blame the otherside and attack anyone not on their platform. Btw KFD, bluray is still here, PS3 is still selling well despite all the nit-picking and according to Metacritic stats the PS3 reviews are edging ahead ahead of 360 (ie. more games looking better on ps3). Still sticking to your doom and gloom scenario mentioned back in 2007? As for Bungie, they are a good developer and it would be a shame not see their new IPs released on other platforms. I don't think they are owned by M$ in the sense Naughty Dog/Santa Monica is affiliated to Sony. Can easily see the Halo franchise continuing... you think M$ would give up easy money?!!! Wonder what Halo would be like if Lionhead did it :) Has anyone considered the option that bungie may just be calling it a day 360-wise after reach, finalising the new engine and starting development for next xbox launch titles.
At no point in his whole interview does he suggest they will go ps3 route, they won't. they simply wont kfd is right there, way too much lead time required even for a 10 year cycled console :)... Aww, did another PS3 fanboy get his feelings hurt? Boo-f*cking-who. FYI I'm more partial to the PC, not the Xbox 360. That said, the PS3 fanboys strike me as the worst of the lot of fanboys across all the platforms in general. Consider this fairly earned contempt and payback with interest for the insufferable, smarmy arrogance and "grandstanding in the face of total humiliation" that Sony and it's SDF fanboys routinely engage in. It's been going on for years so don't expect the bill to have been paid off just yet. Buckle up bucko, and if you don't like it then GTFO. You've earned every bit of scorn coming your way. pretentious **** alert. dishing out earned scorn. and who better to do the dishing?!
honestly, anyone using the term SDF needs pinned up against a wall and shot. This old record... but saying that, it is always good to try a new IP
Check out my eBay auction for a job lot of retro consoles and games
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=230360768092 Did KFD even mention the PS3 on this thread? So say that is if you're expecting a slight bit of rational thought from the PS3 fanboys on CVG? Personally, I think anyone who is actually a member or considers themselves a member of the SDF needs to be pinned up against a wall and shot.
In the balls.
Twice. Yes he has. Maybe you meant did he mention it first? In that case it was only a matter of time going by his track record. His last post is a classic. Buckle up bucko    That did tickle me. Since you just used that term, by all means, step right up to the firing squad, Svd. You won't be missed. I didn't until Bunny lost his marbles and went apopletic. As usual. Ah well. I suppose I should be easier on the mentally handicapped, but in this case it's just too easy and well, when attacked I will happily defend myself. :) I rock. I know. No autograph for you this time though. 8) GIMP Oh, there's a surprise.
Another article about the xbox 360, another round of the usual SDF suspects all jumping out from under their bridges and going on the offensive under multiple aliases.
Get a life guys, seriously. I'd weep for you that rabidly defending the latest Sony toy and it's nutty fans on CVG is obviously your main social outlet, except you all seem to take so much pride in that inane act that I usually just wind up having a good laugh at your expense instead. personaly i find xbots the worse of the lot on here, i notice they troll and post insults in ps3 news alot the most, yet wen its xbox news no one can say a thing, even seen some of em tell ps3 owners to get off here for some strange reason, alot of em fail too see thier own hypocrisy Sony fanboys are like rats on a sinking ship.
Morning Grasshopper. I just knew you would be trolling in the Bungie/Halo area.
I guess you have to do something whilst you are sitting around waiting on installs and loading times. |
