Warner Bros. recently acquired the majority of Midway's US assets in a deal thought to be worth $33 million. That figure has now swelled to $49 million, with the increase due to "considerations such as inventory and accounts receivable," according to GameSpot. Midway will also be writing off $69 million to $76 million in debt.
Warner has reportedly taken on 100 staff from Midway's Chicago development studio.
Midway's Newcastle and San Diego studios were not included in the transaction with Warner. The former is now closed, while the latter is up for sale.
Yep and I will be joining that unemployment number from Wednesday...
Anyway shame to see more staff let go. You would think Warner Brothers would want to keep them on after buying a studio not get rid of them!
That said at least Ubisoft is planning on recruiting for their new studio in America.
My sympathies, AJB. If not by choice then I hope you find something appealing soon; if by choice then enjoy the down time.
In other news, 41 people are being fired at Sony Online Entertainment. While I'm not Sony's greatest fan I derive little pleasure from news of people being fired likely due to circumstances beyond their control.

Thank you good sir alas it is not by choice so hammering away at application forms all night long is not my idea of downtime at the minute Haha.
Anyway not fussed just need to find something else to do. My advice, stay away from Local Government at the minute!
Sony news is bad. The video games industry is suddenly going to get extremely competitive for jobs.
AJB - Trust me, it is highly competitive. I am okay at the moment as I have a job in Texas, US within the gaming industry, that I have been with for around 2 years now. However am wanting to branch out, back into UK Employment (even though I do live in UK, atm) but Game related jobs within the UK, are very hard to come by lately, specially in the areas I work in.
It really is becoming grim within the industry, especially when very very experienced candidates are applying, and getting declined.
Ahh dude that sucks although must admit if you have a job in the US that is pretty cool! I guess everything though at the minute has been hit just some more than others.
Alas hopefully things will get better, just need the Government to stop telling us it is when it clearly isn't!
That was the studio, yes indeed ^^ I applied for the position as I had a friend in there, and he had stated that its going to be tough, so many applicants,
There is an upside to it, You do get to pick the perfect one out of a barrel full, However the downside is, so many are applying, the chances are minimal.
