I can appreciate that Sony are keen on making a profit on the PS3 after years of selling it at a loss, or selling it at a lesser loss than previously, for as long as possible. That approach might work if Sony didn't face stiff competition from both Nintendo and MS, but it does and it's being creamed. Loss or not, without a decent price cut the PS3 will likely continue to trail it's competitors for the forseeable future; it's not just about "how much quality you get for your money", it's just as much about how much money you have to part with just to play games which is the primary function of a games console which is where the Wii and the Xbox 360 are esaily outmaneuvering the PS3 at present time sales wise. Use it or lose it Sony! yup US only, but fanboys will lap it up and the sony price cut cry babys will prob be here soon, and usual anti xbox 360 talk of no good games this year or some other crap

Plus, with blu-ray players the price they are now, the argument to get a PS3 to play them really doesn't stand up anymore. I so almost bought a PS3 instead of a 5.1 system. Asda was doing the Arcade pack for £97 not so long ago. Thats insane value for money. You could pick up a 360 and plenty of older gamers for £130. Im sure most people really need the harddisk though but say its for a kid thats not online. Anyway its easy to upgrade with a HD at a later date i'd rather thank Crunchie(TM). :D :lol: This chart accurately sums up all arguements

The price has to come down, blu ray players are dirt cheap, would probably be cheaper to buy a 360 and bluray player now... Perhaps, although I would be very surprised if after 10 years the tech - which is currently the main selling point of the PS3 - isn't both outdated and available cheaper elsewhere (which is already the case in regard to the latter). The games market is under immense pressure from the public's expectation to provide new tech regularly as has been encouraged by the companies themselves. Whether the PS3 sells well in another 5 or 6 years is more or less useless supposition at this point in time because in the present it's not keeping up with the competition and once a new system is released, which I suspect will be before the end of the 10 year cycle of the PS3, it will plummet in value unless the new consoles are woefully worse and a new console generation will have been ushered in resetting the "Who leads?" countdown clock. :lol:

Thanks for sharing that. :lol: I think finally buying an HD TV was the last time I have ever been truly blinkard with regards to games. I really thought it didn't make much difference until I started playing and realised how stupid I'd been about it... it was like playing a different console. After that I bought a surround sound system and it's (again) such an awesome difference. On a decent game I can judge where things in game but off screen are by sound alone.
(still, made for good value for money due to the amount of games I went back to replay in HD/surround...)
Totally agree, when I got my first HDTV and surround sound shortly thereafter, I was compelled to go back and play the majority of my library all over again, if anything because it all looked like liquid sex.
The only downside is I feel less motivated to play my old games again, as they they tend to look like complete poo. thats a question i asked myself last night. :)
never got a chance to play this originally and i've just been laughing my socks off playing it on the Xbox. i assume the chicken does have some use in the game or is it just another "red herring". I have been loving getting back playing it. Some of the voices do really add to the humor too. Especially the monologue you get every so often. I think I'll get it finished by Saturday. Really hoping they give the second one the same treatment too. Cheapest consoles sell the best.

Yep, been going through all the games to see what they're like when you play them as intended. Really shows the advances over the last gen aesthetically at least.
My Streetfighter tournament stick arrives tomorrow so it'll be just like the arcade, might get a pot and get my mates to put in everytime I beat them!! Boooring! Liked the comment about the corsa's though lol. When I was growing up it was same with nova's. so now the 360 is the cheapest? When will these deluded PS3 SDF fanboys make there minds up? One minute its more expansive when you factor in all the add ons, then its the cheapest when it destroys the PS3 month in month out in sales!
Of course thats never been a factor in previous gens when the gamecube/xbox were cheaper than the PS2 to buy. Has more to do with the quality of games, both multiplatform and exclusive, and the overall experience with the 360 being miles ahead in those regards. I agree with most of what you have stated, although I'm not sure the actual gaming experience between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 is that different (certainly not when dealing with the same games), which is part of the problem for Sony. If you can get the same or a very similar gaming experience at a much cheaper initial investment price it really should be a no brainer why people who are primarily looking to play games turn to the option that's easier on their wallets. It is the cheapest.
It doesn't matter how much spin anyone puts on it, that if you were to buy all the (optional) extras to bring it up to the same spec as the PS3 yadda yadda, fact is, I can take a hundred quid out of my account, pop down town and pick up an Xbox 360. And nearly 130k DS/DSi sales. When I see these kind of figures, I find it really hard to believe that story that the UK is now the second largest games market. That's my main reason for playing it... I'd heard plenty about that and I quite enjoy levels of that nature if done right. One of my favourites was the Vampire TM:Bloodlines hotel level. Guys.. nobody is listening and no, Sony/MS/Nint will not give you a job/life supply of games/blow job for promoting their machines for them and talking marketing bollocks for them. And this winter 360 will be 4 and due another price cut in all markets, right about the time sony should be cutting their prices. It dosnt matter what sony do now in terms of price, they are so far behind 360 and wii, that it wont make that much of a difference. I would say with the release of natal next year, when 360 turns 5, it will give it another 2 years as lead format, before the onset of 720 into the market. Which if sony sticks to a 10 year span of ps3 and dont bring out anything after 720 for another 3 years, it means they have lost the next battle aswell. So, another SDF fanboy chased off this forum? I do have all 3 systems and a Gaming PC and my PS3 is my 'Home' console but i haven't really been playing on it since all i really play is KZ2 or IV for like 10 minutes and get off , Same with the 360.
I do agree with everyone when they say Sony needs a price cut, But sometimes thats not an Option for Sony, If they cut the price that could put them in the red even further. NPD may be only based in america for its figures but the fact that the 360 has actually managed to improve month on month while the others decrease in sales shows that ms are doing the right things in certain key areas.
Its no surprise to see ps2 decline as the machine has been around for ages now Wii slowing down was always going to happen but with certain major titles released it will see short term spikes in sales just like n64 did with the release of perfect dark etc.
But the PS3 does need a price cut I know people will argue the value for money blah blah blah but people mainly see ps3 as a games console & sony need to get it through their head that their are a load of people who just cannot justify its price tag based on it solely being a games console.
It has a lot of extra features but most of the people do not really care about them or would hardly ever use them & now that bluray players are getting cheaper & cheaper & you could get a 360 & BR player for less than ps3 is a deal breaker for some.
I know people that bought ps3 & use most if not all the features & there are some I know who only want to play games & they are the ones that feel the most dissapointment considering how much it costs.
And please dont start all that 10 year life cycle crap their will be a successor to ps3 before the 10 years has passed no company would have a console that old in the market place as their flag ship machine especially the way technology is moving forward. Cannot compare multi plat games really as they are by their definition multi format which means everyone with either console gets the option to have them.
On the exclusives front though the ps3 has some good titles available now & some promising ones on the way so to does the 360 it all depends on personal prefference really.
Based solely on exclusives though I would still go for the 360 as it has a bit more variety & IMO some better titles at the moment. In the US!!
It will be interesting what the stats say next year when we have had God of War 3, Uncharted 2
GT5 (highly popular in the States) LBP 2, Heavy Rain ect.

I am sure Microsoft have nothing at all planned for 2010? Now there's a thought. Short of all sales of all consoles and hand-helds suddenly ceasing and remaining frozen at current sales, the figures will indeed be different in a year's time. :roll: Now, as to what those figures will be like and whom will be placed where, that's the heart of the matter! My prediction: Nintendo will still lead, MS will be in second place with a solid lead over Sony. The only way I see Sony having any sort of chance to play "catch-up" is to administer a sizable price cut and supporting a strong games line-up that can appeal both to more focused gamers and the casual crowd. Without the latter Sony will not be able to re-take the lead. Yes I think that a reducement in price is needed for the Ps3, I think a lot of Xbox owners are waiting for that.
Also Fair point about the fact that we have all been saying this would be the Ps3's year but the games have been slightly been delayed in the making. But don't worry 2009-2010 will the year of the mighty one - Fair Play to Bill Gates and the Xbox they certainly have provided Sony with a headache and competition for their machine. Also, isn't it a bit crud to suggest that any year will be 'the year of X console'. Lets say 2009 is the year of the PS3. And lets say the PS3 does have a 10 year life span. I like the games it has. 2 I can watch blu-ray films. 3 I can watch 'stuff' on the internet*cough*. 4 Music,mp3,photo's,blah,blah! In my opinion worth every penny! Which is part of Sony's current headache, IMO. It's grand that you get all those functions if that's what you are looking for, yet it seems that a greater number of people - "hardcore" & casual gamers alike - primarily look to a console for *gaming*. Not Blu-Ray. Not surfing the internet. Nor for playing music, etc. Sony overreached in trying to make a media center that would compete with gaming focused consoles in the *gaming console market*! It has ended up with a piece of kit that's much more expensive and it's not doing itself any favours by it. Makes me laugh that some on here view the 360 as some sort of stop gap console that people buy until the ps3 comes down in price when the reality is its cheaper partly because it has been out a little longer & it has a great range of games that a lot of gamers want at a more affordable price.
Why buy an expensive media centre/console when you
A) do not care that much about the other features
B) A cheaper alternative is there that you can buy get pretty much equal graphical performance & get a sack load of games for the same price Well good news for MSoft then in the current economic climate. Although will it last?
To the fanbots of either of the HD consoles all I can say is my console is better than yours, :P PC FTW! :P We will just have to wait & see wont we, but on the games you mention.
The last guardian looks great & very artistic just like the 2 previous games from team ico the main problem with those games is they did not sell in the massive numbers that your more common franchises do.
God of war 3 looks great but there are other games of this type also coming out Dante's inferno also looking pretty good on the plus side though God of war has built up a decent fan base.
Gran turismo needs some really new features imo the series still has legs but they are looking a little weak at the knees they really need to make it more exciting.
Uncharted 2 looks great as well the first is a really good game but again sales wise it did not set the world on fire as only one ps3 exclusive has passed a million sales in the states & thats resistance fall of man, is a worrying statistic for me if I was sony.
And sony crap on their own doorstep i mean recently the only games i have seen advertised for ps3 are Harry potter & Transformers why are they wasting advertising budget on games that are available on pretty much everything else?
They need to invest more on their exclusives because they are not selling as well as multi format games on their own system. DOREEN

They must be raking in the proportionate percentage of the development pie at PS2 rrp. Are they secretly using the PS2 sales to continually support PS3s current price tag? Could be a strategy and with PS3 tech now cheaper to develop for, are they content with its current sales unit?

I've seen a similar commercial for "Transformers" where it advertises for the PS2, the PS3, and the PSP all under the brand name "Playstation" (no mentione of "GAME" that I've noticed here). To make matters worse it looks like they opted to use the PS2 in-game video footage for the advertisement. What the hell were they thinking?! Someone should be reprimanded, if not fired for that...Or perhaps it is the PS3 version in which case it looks unimpressive to say the least. If the logic behind it was that since the new "Transformers" movie is out that will make more people buy the game, then there is some modicum of logic to it but it's a sad commercial in terms of quality and I should think the money could have been better spent. That is entirely plausible; the loss has to be covered from somewhere by other Sony departments after all. I don't doubt the PS2 sales have a high profit margin percentage wise, however that's only half the story. You also have to look at the actual real-term capital generated from it and measure that against both operating and production costs. You clearly haven't seen the game running on the 360 then. I suggest you pick yourself up a copy of XboxWorld360 and see what they say about the game and its graphics. HITMANBAZZA so what if cant spell properly, its called dyslexia. That's how much PS2 makes in the US alone. How much Sony pocket is unknown (after development costs which as I state must be real cheap by now etc) but that is still a staggering figure for PS2 sales in one region alone.
On a global scale, dear knows how much they make on a return (not including PSP sales too) and it isn't surprising as to why Sony (the Computer Entertainment division) aren't sweating over a PS3 price cut.
