No Fallout 3 DLC on PS3 until September

"Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected," says Bethesda
PS3 owners won't be seeing any Fallout 3 DLC whatsoever until September, Bethesda's production director Ashley Cheng has confirmed.

There are four download packs (Broken Steel, Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout) available now on 360, with a fifth, Mothership Zeta, expected later this month. But PS3 gamers, who would have been expecting the first of the downloads any time now, will have to wait a lot longer.

"We're excited and eager to bring Fallout 3 DLC to PSN. Unfortunately, the content is going to be releasing later than originally expected," admitted Cheng.

He continued: "We are knee deep in testing at the moment, and we're hoping to have the first DLC out by the end of September. That long? Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game."

He does, however, go on to confirm that, due to popular demand, the Broken Steel update will be the first to go live, and says the team will make an effort to ensure "the wait between DLC is as short as possible".

Here's a list of the packs in the order Cheng says they'll come to PSN:

  • Broken Steel - Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest and raises the game's level cap to 30.

  • Operation: Anchorage - Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe - the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders.

  • The Pitt - Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh and choose sides in the battle between the slaves and the slavers.

  • Point Lookout - Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.

  • Mothership Zeta - The aliens have returned, and they're pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you're tough enough to survive.

I'm glad that the DLC is going to be cross-platform, it was a ****ing liberty that it wasn't in the first place and PS3 owners had every right to feel cheated. Sort it out, Bethesda.

timed exclusives never sell well when they release on the other platform!!! this has to be the worst game ever made in terms of bugs!! not to mention nearly evey DLC has had to be pulled from sale because they didnt work!!

Very poor development team i have to say!!!

Might as well wait for the GOTY edition now. Supposed to be released around that sort of time anyway.

Someone hasn't played Daggerfall...

Seriously though, Bethesda have come a long way with quality control. Fallout 3 is actually a pretty polished product compared even to Oblivion, which was far more glitchy in my experience.

Indeed, 31st October I believe. It's what i'm waiting for. Been wanting to play Fallout 3 more than any other game but the GOTY edition is such good value i'm forcing myself to wait.

The GOTY edition would be the way to go in my opinion, especially if you haven't play it at all yet...

I thought Anchorage was a really poor choice for a stand alone episode, yet if it was "just" another mission in the main game, it probably would of been much better received for it's change of scenery and combat heavy nature...

Even amoungst the other DLC I think it'll fare better than having it as an epsiode.

With this news i cant see the GOTY edtion making it out on PS3 in October. At least they are bringing Broken Steel out first.

Totally agree - exclusive DLC is a f*cking joke.
I'd be p*ssed if I was a GTA IV PS3 owner too.

No different than actual game timed exclusives either. Sony had the upper hand on that situation for years. It's nice to know that Microsoft stuck it to them this generation.

Doesn't really bother me that much, I have PS3, 360 and Wii. So I get the game on he format that will offer me the most. Needless to say Fallout 3 and GTA IV got purchased on the 360.

As for the bugs. I don't think I came across any real problems while playing Fallout 3. It is easily one of the best games I played last year and still this year. It's so engrossing.
