UFC 2009: No one likes a quitter

Online fix coming "soon"
The producer of UFC 2009, Neven Dravinski, has put out a list of fixes to be introduced in an upcoming patch, which focuses mainly on the online component of the game.

How about we just let Dravinski do the talking?

  • We recognize premature match quitting as the biggest online issue and have taken steps to fix it. The Patch will have integrated code that detects who pulls the cable and will assign a Loss as well as a Did Not Finish to that player. The DNF is only counted for the player who executes the disconnection. The DNF rate will be displayed on the fighter selection screen of the Online Ranked Match. When disconnected the Winning Streak is also reset to 0.

  • We've adjusted Ranked Matches to match up players with better connections, which will improve lag issues we've seen to date.

  • We've adjusted the difficulty of performing submissions against AI opponents to improve the balance of subs vs. striking when playing against the AI.

  • We've adjusted the Flash KO rate so that they are less frequent.

  • We've increased maximum number of points awarded in online play from 99,999 to 999,999 and we've increased the Max Level from 100 to 200.

  • We've lowered the Winning Streak Bonus Max from 5 to 3.

  • We've removed the decimal places on the Leaderboard Winning Percentage so we only show whole percentages.

  • We've addressed the CAF cheat so the skill levels in CAF cannot be cheated and increased. Also any CAF with unfair point values will no longer be able to be used Online.

  • For PS3 users we've also fixed a bug that causes a freeze during auto-save; whichever controller was used to Press Start on the Title Screen will be identified as the main controller.

"Rest assured our entire team plays A LOT of online matches and we read the boards every day, so we are well aware of the issues. We want to make sure we patch this correctly so it is taking a bit of time, but I can confidently say we'll be releasing this patch soon."

I think all sports games with online modes need to start getting tough on this issue.

Most players don't quit in the conventional sense, rather they disconnect their console from the internet or turn the console off simulating a disconnect.

The only way they are going to be able to stop people doing this is by handing out bans for players consistantly quitting or disconnecting. Fifa 2009 has proven this year that having a DNF figure is not working as a deterrant. I get SO frustrated when raping people on fifa and they quit. Grow a pair of balls or don't play the game if you're crap at it.

So start banning these ******s from playing your game online please and set a standard for other sport games.

I know what you mean and it is very annoying, but it's unlikely that they'd actually be allowed to ban users from playing the game online.

They should perhaps have a 'name and shame' leaderboard - just listing those that do not finish matches/fights....I'm pretty sure that'd make people think a bit more before doing it.

I'd never quit a game just because I was losing...let's face it - no matter how good you are (or think you are), there is always someone around the corner that will wipe the floor with you....that's life!

A name an shame leader board would be a great solution, its the new fun thing to do isn't it, pull the cable out an simulate a disconnection..

I'm afraid as much as I hate this crap, its now just a bi product of on-line play,If somebody wants to quit a game they will quit a game, being crap or lag are always going to be factors.

I very much doubt studio's would want to completely isolate or ban quitters as that would surely account for a large proportion of gamers...

A better method may be to trace the phone line quitters are on and send round a gang of midgets with big sticks to beat the offender..... one of the midgets could carry a black marker to write noob on there forehead too....

where was I ?? I digress sometimes......

When will they release new downloadable characters???

If not bans, at least suspensions. Or a system where the DNF figure is taken into account when matchmaking, so that players with a 10% DNF figure or less (to account for genuine disconnections) are matched together and those with a higher figure are given a lower priority or are matched together. Quitters ruin the quality of online gaming for those who don't quit.

I'd happily (and have done) take a 6-0 thrashing on fifa, rather than blemish my DNF.

Nico they already said that they are only releasing Bader and Escudero and they are coming out after 6 months if you didn't get them for pre-ordering.

I'm happy they are adjusting the flash KO's, i've been in so many wars where we are both fighting really well then one of us KO's the other in the final seconds. Decisions mean more to me, like i've earned it in a war rather than looking like I got an easy KO on someone.

7 day ban for 3 dnr's in my opinion, as well as the rest.
