Alien Breed remake revealed - pics

Unreal Engine-powered remake of Team17 classic
Team17's classic Amiga classic Alien Breed is set to make a return on current-gen platforms by the name of Alien Breen Evolution.

Here's the official announcement:

"Team17 are absolutely delighted to formally confirm the return of one of its most cherished properties in Alien Breed Evolution.

"The Unreal3 powered next-gen title, part of Team17's quality, independent digital line-up is a drop-dead gorgeous 'retro-modern' remake of the game that helped Team17 burst onto the Amiga scene 18years ago.

"Featuring an action packed, tense single player adventure and an absolute blast of a co-op game, Alien Breed Evolution helps raise the production bar on download-only titles and underlines Team17's re-energised momentum since deciding to become an independent publisher in the digital distribution era.

"Video footage, more shots, details and platform confirmations will be forthcoming later in the summer.

From the screenshots, I'd say it'll be released on XBLA and PSN.

Awesome! I loved the original!

That is so weird. I was thinking this morning about just how good it would be if they brought back Alien Breed.

I loved all the old AB games, even Tower Assault. Can't wait to get on this.

Ok, so as things stand two of my fav' games I played on the Amiga are coming back; Money Isl and AB. Cannon Fodder and Chaos Engine next please games developers.

How classic??
Posted by leefear1
I've just let out a little bit of wee.....

The original was quite simply brilliant!

We now just need a new version of the chaos engine, cannon fodder, syndicate, gods....... etc etc.

@Nomad0404@ How old??

I used to love the original games. The Amiga 500 was a classic machine. We'd always play between that and the SNES (the Mega Drive would get an occasional look in). Even though I'm not a fan of the UE 3 (its just so dull!), I hope they make this a good one to have. And yes, an XBLA games

It looks very much like Shadowgrounds on PC.

But then Shadowgrounds was very much an updated Alien Breed, so - fair's fair!

I remember reading bout this game is the CVG magazine when all I had was a Amstrad. I didnt have an Amiga......

This version looks good, just like the old top down view.

Cannon Fodder is penciled in for the end of this year from Codies on PSP and Sydicate is also being remade! for PC i think? If just one of these is awesome I will be a happy man!
Posted by snips10
@LiquidGFX *sniff* you've made me the happiest man alive! *sniff*

Top news, the original was frickin' ace.

Looking good too from the screenshots. It'll be interesting to see if they just include the co-op from the original or chuck in an online multiplayer mode, because that'd pretty much seal the deal.

Alien Breed was a budget game when released too - about £8 I think.

I second pretty much all the amiga games mentioned, was still the most amount of fun I've had playing games - being 13 at the time may well have helped!

Chaos Engine, Syndicate, It Came From The Desert, a new Turrican game, a proper version of Speedball (updates of loads of Bitmap Bros games actually), Rick Dangerous...

The amiga gets overlooked when it comes to XBL etc (or even just bringing back franchises), many of these games would sell well I think as they're classics and I don't think the amiga really penetrated the US/Japan market first time around.

What about a 3d version of Great Giana Sisters to really piss Nintendo off all over again.

And Typhoon Thompson.

Great Giana Sisters - OMG I remember playing that when I was 10 convinced I was gonna be gay!

Yeah the Bitmaps did some classics. I think Magic Pockets was one which would probably go down as my fav.

What about D-Generation, Mega Lo Mania, Fire and Ice oh I could just go on and on. Will be on my Amiga emulator tonight if anyone needs me!

I have just done a sex wee!!

Lets also not forget Arcade Pool, i spent sooooo much time playing that game. There was just a certain charm it had. Bankshot Billiards is close.
Posted by leefear1
And Pinball fantasies/ Dreams. Also I loved Jimmy Whites snooker, Lotus Challenge, Super Skidmarks and who can forget Deluxe Paint (although I am not sure how much fun that would be on the 360).

I wish they would just release an amiga channel on the wii vc.

ah amiga...those were the days.

How about Shadow of the beast, James Pond - robocod, Xenon 2 megablast and the Batman the movie game and robocop.

I could go on forever :)

How could one computer give out so much gaming love........?
Posted by bevoboro
I dont believe it!!! First new Syndicate and Monkey Island, and now a remake of Alien Breed. I'm chuffed to bits we are final getting some Amiga love :D

Now this brings back memories. Looks like a nice make-over of this venerable title. I am however concerned that other games such as "Dead Space" and The Flood levels of "Halo 3" have already managed to successfully capture that alien, horror/survival feel even better with the FPS approach as it's more immersive than the third person point of view. If this retails on the cheap side it might do okay sales wise.

Flood. Does anyone remember that? Eco platformer from Bullfrog.

I actually got Pinball Dreams on my iphone. Only game on it I've really liked!

I could never get my Amiga emulator working on my PC as meine deutsche ist nicht sehr gut and the drive rusted up on my 500 after being in storage for years.

Any hints?

I thought it was confirmed only for XBL

If its PSN as well, well that would make my day.

I remember back in the day...grumble grumble

Natal anyone :D

Amiga, how I loved her... Cannon Fodder, Flashback, mega-lo-mania, Swiv, Another World...

How I miss you :(

@CVG Gav@ my comment was a reference to:

"Team17's classic Amiga classic Alien Breed"

I don't think there's really a need for the use of the word classic twice in that is there now? Hmmm eh?
Nope there's not.
Posted by balhallam1
It's great to see Alien Breed! Hoping this comes to PSN as I loved all the AB games!
Would also love to see Turrican 1 & 2 on PSN!
Anyone remember stuff like the Killing Game Show or Awesome from Psygnosis? (now Studio Liverpool?)
Posted by Rundas
@ badgerpog, i was thinking exactly the same thing. it looks 1:1 like shadowgrounds, i actually thought maybe theyd mixed up the screenshots! like you say though, shadowgrounds took its inspiration from games like AB so its fair. but wow, so similar.
Posted by jazzy_p
Turrican? TURRICAN?

Hell yes.
Posted by ricflair
You can get Mega and Super Turrican on virtual console.

I would have got them if I could be sure they were as good as Turrican 2 on the 500.

They've done c64 games on the VC (which I think is pushing it), so why not amiga games?
