Dirt 2 PC delayed for DirectX 11 support

Hardware tessellation, hyper-threading and all that mumbo jumbo included
Colin McRae: Dirt 2 on PC has been delayed so it can be one of the first games to make use of the new tech to be introduced by DirectX 11, which arrives alongside Windows 7 on October 22.

The first DX11 hardware is on the way and Codemasters' latest rally sim will be ready for it although it means an "extended development program" will push the title back to December, behind the September release of the game on other formats.

DX11 support means "multi-threading, hardware tessellation and Shader Model 5.0" will all be supported. Hopefully that means more to you than it does to us. We'll let Codies explain: "Hardware tessellation will further improve the appearance of water and other surfaces as well as crowd animations.

"The shader performance of Shader Model 5.0 (SM 5.0) will aid in creating an even richer 3D experience, enhancing key image quality parameters such as depth of field, ambient occlusion and shadows. These DirectX 11 features, and many others, will add the horsepower needed to improve performance."

Got that? Good. Codemasters' chief technical officer, Bryan Marshall, said: "While the console editions of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will retain their September ship date, we believe that the DirectX 11 feature set is too compelling to ignore, especially considering how much more it can add to the visual experience for PC gamers."

"The fusion of DirectX 11 with Codemasters' EGO Engine will raise the technical bar considerably in the racing genre."

Here are two DX 11 screenshots for you to stare at. Let's play spot the difference.

Fine by me, can't see it being a "benchmark" title for long though. Still, this is probably coming out around the time I might consider laying down some cash for a winter upgrade (8800GT is still doing fine at the moment).

been having loads of issues with dx10 and now dx11 .. **** no ! i'll stick with dx9 for now

How many people are still on 9? Seems pointless to me just put the game out it will look great with or with out Dx11

Im rocking a 8800GT as well and dont really see the point in upgrading...still OCuk is doing a 4870 for £111 so all of a sudden im really REALLY tempted :D

I'm not sure what they're saying here!

Is it a case of DX11 compat., or screw you and you don't play the actual game?

Why are people seeing this as negative? Pc's now hammer the current consoles and I want to see what they can do with all that extra power. Or at least using some of it to make the console limited versions sharper and better looking

got a 4850 and dx10 suck big time from crysis to farcry 2 but on dx9 everything run smoothly on max .. i don't think it's worth upgrading ...... yet !

this is all well and good but how many graphics cards can be bought right now that support dx11? i am pretty sure that to take advantage of this we will need one of the cards ati or nvidia release in the next few months and i expect them to cost quite a bit.

random fact of the day, the 360 gpu has hardware tessellation but i dont think any of the current nvidia cards do as its a new feature to directx.

Facts that are known about DX11 cards atm.... There are NONE! Dx10 isn't thbe industry standard yet so why go to Dx11 now?? When Dx9 is still what 70% of people are using!

Since any experiences I have had with dx10 have been pretty dam shoddy, I'm not particularly excited.
