Top 20 Nintendo happenings

Feature: If it's Nintend-on, it's Nintend-in
There's something of a musical theme this month, with a nice spot of Mega Man remixing, some completely unexpected game-related songs and what we think is a professional Japanese Rhythm Tengoku concert. Next time it'll be all food or cakes, if we can find enough of them. Or maybe shoes or scarves or papercraft or weapons. No promises, though.

THE SINGING REVIEWER
If any of us on NGamer could sing without setting off the office fire alarms, we might do some musical reviews like this. Or maybe not. We have no talent and this is pretty unique. Listen to some folk-tinted musings on games here and follow Rebecca's Twitter updates. Link

TENGOKU CONCERT
Here's one of the best songs from Rhythm Tengoku Gold performed live, with a real audience taking the place of the monkeys who clap and jump in time with the music. If you follow the YouTube links, there are other similar performances but this is by far the most professional. We're completely baffled. Link

REAL TETRIS
If all the world's electricity suddenly ran out, at least we'd still be able to play Tetris. Well, sort of. Take a look at this bizarre video. Link

MARIO LAPTOP
How to use a laser etcher to turn a cheap laptop into a one-off special edition. It's like a licence to print money on eBay - or at least it would have been if the creator of this bit of art hadn't let the cat out of the bag. Link

ZELDA CROSS STITCH
Pixel art rendered in actual bits of string and cloth. It's the overworld map from Zelda on the SNES and it's such an epic undertaking that we wouldn't be surprised to find its creator had been working on it since the game was first released all those years ago. Link

Wii SPIRIT LEVEL
Keep fit - check. Train your brain - check. Help you hang a picture straight - yes, that too, thanks to this inventive bit of homebrew code. Link

LIVE ACTION MARIO
From Japanese TV, a re-creation of a Super Mario Bros level that takes a turn for the surreal before the halfway mark. Cleverly done. Link

GOLDENEYE SOURCE
Seemingly in development for years, this fan-made PC update of the classic N64 game is nearing completion. Well, it'll be available some time in 2009 anyway. Unless 007's lawyers crush it, it'll be the only high-res GoldenEye you're ever likely to play. Link

DONKEY QUILT
You wouldn't want to wash this one with your white tea linen. Lovely colour, far too expensive to trust to a machine, and a one-off that's already been sold. Keep an eye on the artist's Etsy page to see if any similar designs crop up. Link

Wii WEIGHTS
How can you build up any muscle tone in Wii Sports when the remote is so light? By strapping it into an actual weight! This will mean instant death for LCD TVs (and anyone standing nearby) if the strap snaps while you're bowling, of course. Link

KID ICARUS PAPERCRAFT
It's a little chunk of American NES favourite Kid Icarus, immortalised in paper by French modellers. Download the pattern and build your own 3D retro tribute. Link

BLOOD BERRY KATANA
A customised Star Wars lightsaber makes a perfect finishing touch for a brilliant spot of Travis Touchdown cosplay. The creator of this beam katana plans to turn it into a lamp when he's finished playing with it. Well, what else would you do with it? Link

LINK BENTO
Constructed mostly from rice, seaweed and hamburger, this is a lunch box of legendary beauty. Link's face is made from 'fake sausage' and his hair is the purest egg. He's even wearing a spinach tunic. Amazing, really. Link

CLASSIC COVERS
These are part of an art project that combines classic videogames and vintage Penguin book covers. We love the utter disrespect shown to GoldenEye's less than lethal Klobb gun. Link

POLiiCE BULLETIN
Surely this can't be real... It's a poster appealing for information about a road traffic collision, with a Mii likeness of the hit and run suspect. If you see this villain in Mario Kart, call the cops. Link

CUSTOM SHOES
You've probably seen a few custom Nintendo shoes for sale on eBay, but if you don't like the designs on offer then try this Etsy seller. You can have your own artwork screen-printed onto a pair of slip-ons (just like your grandad wears). Link

MASTER OF TWITCH
Hudson's own master of button-mashing demonstrates a few of the techniques he uses to achieve his 16 shots per second rate of fire in Star Soldier R. Bet he's got calluses like pound coins on those fingers. Link

POOR KIRBY (CAKE)
Delicious and pink he may be but have you ever considered Kirby's feelings when slicing into that sweet, sweet icing? Link

SCARF OF CYDONIA
This crochet scarf is the most super cool Guitar Hero tribute we've ever seen. It's the note pattern from ridiculously difficult Muse track Knights Of Cydonia. Hardcore for your neck. Link

MEGA MAN REMIX
Calling all fans of 8-bit chipsound music and nerdcore - it's a remix of the soundtrack from Mega Man 9. Finally you can hear the music from the levels you've never managed to see in the game. Link

Oh great, another obscure Nintendo related feature

That's three or four of them in the past month, no?
