Ninja Gaiden: Sigma II screens show new character

This is the only game I wanted for my PS3 (sold it on eBay now). I don't understand why Tecmo are throwing in so many new characters that they don't need. There's a risk that these characters could be meaningless...

Having said that I would have LOVED to play as Ayane...Ah well. I've got the original on 360 so I'm not sure if this would have been an essential purchase anyway.
