SCEI appoints new deputy president

Sony veteran Kunimasa Suzuki to work in tandem with Kaz Hirai
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc (SCEI) has appointed Kunimasa Suzuki to the role of representative director and deputy president.

The Sony veteran has held numerous positions at the company since joining in 1984, including GM of VAIO and EVP of Sony Electronics in the US.

Reporting to Kaz Hirai from July 1, Suzuki will assist the SCE boss in managing the day-to-day operations of the PlayStation business, and will specifically be responsible for the areas of strategy and product planning.

He will also retain his current role as SVP and deputy president of Sony's networked products and services group. It can be expected that Suzuki will play a leading role in the company's bid to expand the PlayStation Network to a wider array of its consumer devices.

"I'm determined to maximise my contribution to accelerating the expansion of the PlayStation business, one of Sony's core categories, and at the same time play an active role in linking the consumer electronics and PlayStation teams to strategically fuse both businesses and create new and truly unique Sony user experiences," said Suzuki.

"I'm determined to maximise my contribution to accelerating the expansion of the PlayStation business" ...gotta love management speak.

Today I'm determind to maximise my consumption of tea and biscuits at the cost of expanding my stomach before doing my 'business' in the toilet!

Hopefully he will try to hold Kaz Hirai back from making even more dreadful decisions (PSP Go! I'm looking at you).
