granted it would look lovely -but ive grown to love those cartoon-esqe sprites and im worried they would only tarnish the game ive come to love most.
disc three im on my way! Good to hear it's still appreciated. I still have the PS1 version and don't think any other RPG has come close to it yet. It doesn't need an update IMO, still plays brilliantly. nah man if they done it advent children style animation all wud b forgiven in my books! Indeed, still the Best Final Fantasy game. 8 was pretty good too but the story was fantastic in 7. I'm loving playing through this again - it brings back so many memories - especially of when JRPG's used to be great.
And let's face it, PS3 owners are clamouring for some JRPG goodness, so let's hope that Square repay the love. Are we seriously saying we DON'T want a remake?
Not that I think it'll ever happen, but c'mon, it would be cool to see all those summons in glorious HD.
I'd love to see it! Personally no. I agree, it would probably look great, but I think it's a game that doesn't actually need it. It has a style that, for me, just doesn't seem to age. Each to his/her own, though! I don't think it needs an update at all. I have it on my PC and it still entertains me to no end. For HD summons, FF13 will satisfy your needs surely? 100,000 x Ł7.99 = Ł799,000. That is a lot of money for SCEA. A nice big profit. Also there's the slight problem that Advent Children sucked balls. Cloud looked like a chick, Barrett looked like George Michaels bed-fellow, the story was absolutely terrible, the 'Sephiroth babies' were lame and well... I didn't really like it... can you tell?
Keep it as it is I say, almost everything Square touch these days turns to soggy turd. FF7 is the only game in the series worth playing (still got my original copy), and indeed one of favourite games of all time! I would only want a remake if they stuck to the original artistic style. As lovely as Advent Children was it wasn't as gritty. They started to over stylize everything. The Hardy Daytona is a perfect example. Mr Pirtniw, i'm curious to find out whether you watched the english dubbed version or the Japanese version. I watched the Japanese version with subs and loved it, (I am a firm believer that everything should be watched in its original language, with subs if needed.), however I watched the English dubbed version afterwards, and everyone sounded like a pussy ass bitch. They all sounded so pathetic! Final Fantasy 7 was brilliant, it's a shame that JRPGs haven't really moved on since then.
Skies of Arcadia will always hold a special place in my heart though, here's hoping for a release on PSN/Arcade. As cool as that would be, I think the game would have to change quite a lot to make a new version work. FF7 could got away with a bunch of silly things because of the style of the blocky and less realistic character models. Remember dressing up as a woman, doing squat thrusts, Tifa and Scaret's slapping match, Don Corneo's pelvic thrusts towards Tifa, The Honeybee Inn? All great Final Fantasy 7 moments, but I can't see them working with realistic characters and voice acting. That odd laughing scene in FF10 was bad enough but that would've easily worked in FF7 Cait Sith might be a bit odd as well. @NathTheNarc:
Yeah, you got me, I originally watched it with the English dub- but I was expecting it to be a bit cheesy/naff as most english dubs are. But it wasn't just the voices that were bad, it was almost everything. Visually it was great, Clouds bike was cool and I liked the way he had many swords in one- but as I mentioned- nothing made it feel like FF to me. It felt totally soul-less and bland.
The 'posse' grouping together so they could throw cloud 1000 feet in the air was so knuckle chewingly bad I felt embarrased just watching it! Even in Japanese it was a average flick. Great to hear it's sold so many, it really deserves it imo, XIII will have to be one hell of a game to top it in my eyes. I've seen Advent Children but I realise no film could do justice to a 100+ hour RPG really.
Unless it was a massive budget film trilogy a la LotR, I don't think fans could ever be satisfied with a 2 hour FF film.
The game is such an all-time classic and remains one of my top 3 games of all time despite my indifference to RPGs nowadays. Well I diasgree with all of you, FF7 is my favourite game of all time. A remake would be utterly brilliant and is wanted by millions of fan's world wide. Let's face it if the kept the final fantasy look, and they have never made a realistic lookin game, they have a specific style. If they keep to that and keep everything the excact same, chuck in some voice acting. Then got rid of the lame loading times for battles then this will be a master piece. Infact it will bne the all time greatest game ever!! Also I think its gona come if you like it or not, Square Enix have turned into a money hungry company like Activision are but not as bad. And FF7 will probably sell more than any game before it raking in millions and millions of pounds. Why would they wana miss that opportunitie? Just play the orginal if you want it to be exactly the same and just read out loud all the text. Sorted :P
Seriously though I would definitely love a remake if they made it work but I really don't see it happening sadly. That scene was terrible. Butt****ingly terrible. Its 100 000 only in the US ,so it can be easily 300k or even 400k worlwide as the US is the worst PS3 market.
I am loving replaying this .It still plays quite well ,the SD characters have their charm once you dont expect to see realistic graphics and the backgrounds remain good to this day.
It looks specially brilliant on the PSP ,too ! honestly? yes,i am.
i couldn't handle the cute characters being replaced with advent children style 'realism'. the voice work would be all american and suicide inducing too. (think tidus, yuna etc...).
i'm happy with my ntsc version of the original thanks.
i'd prefer a remake of FFVI. It's really weird, I loved FFVII back in the day, but since Squares' games have gone for realism in the graphics department, I have gone right off all their stuff.
No doubt most of you will have heard of the "uncanny valley" phenomenon in which people are presented with cgi that is near real, but people reject it at a subconscious level, as the human brain struggles to interpret what it is seeing. This also causes an emotional disconnect from what is being seen.
That is probably why I could accept as kooky and cute all the naffness in the FFVII storyline (transvestism, etc.) but when presented with similarly naff story scenes in Advent's Children, all I could think was "Aaargh... turn this crap off!" I agree the film was ass, it was a pretty face with some good choreography but did nothing but damage the franchise with all of its plot holes in my opinion. It was a film made for japanophiles (the cosplaying losers), not real fans.
The fact that you admit to watching it dubbed doesn't matter, listening to it in a language you don't understand at all will not make it any better in general.
I don't want them touching FF7, they WILL ruin it. FF13 is more or less taking all of its ideas anyway so why bother.
Oh right...money. well,i think i will add this to piss off Grasshopper wherever he is
bring it to xbox live arcade and see what real damage it can do,LOL
and hell yeah i would love to see Skies of Arcadia rereleased Question - is cvg based in USA? reason I ask is there are so many articles that relate to us psn and only really relevant if you have multiple psn accounts. Unfortunatley I dont. But I do have multiple personalities (for which I take medication) Ive just had my first experience with FF. Been gaming for many years but never liked RPG's. Musics a bit annoying innit? Also, call me a diddy but how do you save? whenever i try it says no memory card found, how do you select hard drive?
Hoping the story will sweep me away Thanks for advice @bravestar. your talking about saving on ps3 right? If I remember correctly you have to create a virtual ps1 memory card in save game data on the xmb. Once thats done, you need to play FF7 (obviously) and get to a save point then goto save and it should find the card. Thats how its done on original ps3's - dunno if its the same on the PS3's that arent backwards compatible but I would imagine it is.
Oh and word of warning - the FF7 music maybe annoying but it will record into your brain forever! 999,999 of them were not me. It was the third time that I bought it, since I have the original PS1 version and PC version (so I could play with the silly mods). I got this to put on my PSP, as I was not willing to hack. I really loved FF7 back in the day. which was TWO HUNDRED YEARS AGO. GET OVER IT. WE DONT NEED A REMAKE IT WONT BE A GOOD. SEE HOLLYWOOD POST 2000 FOR 1000000 EXAMPLES. Assholes like you lot led to FF7-Abomination Children being released and all that other related arse gravy. THANKS FOR THAT, WAY TO NECRO MY MEMORIES somemore Why do FF7 fans get treated like lepers. Never known fans of any other game get treated this way. I know the game isn't truly a gamers game but who cares. Its good fun if you like it.
The opportunity of a new one shouldn't be overlooked just because we've been there before. New people are born everyday and haven't experienced what we have so maybe, just maybe, it could also be for the benifit of new gamers not just the fans.
If it's crap, well it's crap. But i'd like to give it a chance. |
