Current PSP's atleast allow retailers to sell games and get that "consistent" custom from users. I knew this was going to happen, it'll be interesting to see what the big retaillers make of it. I have a feeling that the guys working at game and the like will be directed to reccommend the 3000 instead of the go! once it's been released.
You'd never of thought that a company like sony could **** it up so royally. they've managed to make a device that not only do customers not want, distributers don't want to sell.

Retailers will reject it because theres no potential for software sales. Software is the main source of income, especially for indie retailers. Why would they promote a console which, while it may give them a small profit initially, once they demand dies down they don't even get the opportunity to benefit from software sales. I did work experience at a Chips store one summer and briefly met Don McCabe, he knows his onions, (by onions I mean games). The profit margins on consoles are neglegable and game shops actually make more money from trade-ins than selling new games or consoles.
PSP Go should of had a slot UMD drive or just been developed as a brand new version of the PSP with SD Cards or something. Giving the consumer a choice is what Sony have started to miss the point on. When they launched PS3 they had 60GB consoles then they took away some of the original features such as b/c and launched the 40GB whilst not giving the consumers choice on which they would prefer, just doing away with what they originally released. Then they released the 80GB and did away with the 40GB SKU. Ludicrous Sony, no clear strategy dremorack has hit the nail on the head. It's all about the long game, and that's why the Big Three (soon to be Four at the rate Apple is going) are always talking about attach rates.
If someone has bought a console from a particular store, it's because they either have a loyalty card and want the points or because they offered the cheapest deal. Either of those is a standard. A loyalty scheme will encourage people to go back for games, as will continuously low prices.
The new PSP is a risky move by Sony, since we're still in an age of physical media. Of course, the piracy on the DS, the hints Microsoft have been dropping about dropping physical media and the success of the Apple devices is showing that people don't mind the download-only model as much now. Whether the country (nay, the world!) is ready for it to be mainstream is still up in the air. :oops: I don't think you understand what's being talked about here. As to your comments about Ipods, have you ever used one? Do you even know what an Ipod is? You aren't restricted to only using Apples download store, you can buy CDs anywhere and then convert them in Itunes too. So Ipods don't stop people from buying CDs, in fact they've probably done their bit to increase CD sales. This is especially true for large retails which rely on moving mass bulk which allows them to negotiate lower prices with the suppliers while offering discounts to customers. Indie shops have less options in that regard since they usually have nowhere near the same clout as the logistics mammoths. Precisely. Customers, as a general rule of thumb, love having options/choices. That is one area where MS has done very well with the Xbox 360 simply because it offers multiple versions with various optional add-ons in different price brackets. Unless you have 20 different versions of a product line-up that is almost identical then you can't really go wrong with added choice for the customer...And if it costs too much to have X amount of choices for a product then limit the amount of stock for some of the less popular options (like MS is currently doing with the Elite).
My personal view is that Sony screwed the pooch when they dropped backwards compatibility, kept the price high and were later caught admitting that the backwards compatibility was essentially dropped due to greed with the hope that it would force more customers to go buy the more expensive PS3 games. Sony's fall from grace on the gaming scene in the span of a generation has been nothing short of spectacular.
