Hands-on with Battlefield 1943

First screenshots of fourth, unlockable map
EA's released four new Battlefield 1943 shots, following our recent second hands-on session with the PC, Xbox Live and PSN download effort.

The new media batch gives the public their first look at the Coral Sea map, which will be unlocked by the community through killing tallies.

Coral's a plane-only affair, with both US and Japanese sides starting on aircraft carriers before waging war in the skies above the water. Unfortunately, due to the flight controls seemingly requiring an afternoon training course to master, most of our cockpit time was spent crashing into our own deck.

Thankfully the land combat is far easier to get to grips with - and impressive in scale. Playing as a scout you can snipe frog-marching Japanese on the other side of the map and the views from the air are simply epic. 1943 could easily be a full retail game in looks.

One new addition to the traditional Battlefield formula has players who capture the Wake Island airport radar able to call in air strikes, though they'll have to recharge for a few minutes before you can call them in again.

Fore more detailed Battlefield 1943 impressions read our last hands-on from earlier in the year.

The last date i seem to read about its release was July 1st, so next week if thats still true, but i have seen nothing else to confirm that. I loved coral sea from BF42 on the PC, so looking forward to playing it in this version.

I'm going to enjoy playing this on live. The Coral Sea map sounds cool going to be some top dog fights on there.

Just give us the freaking release dat.

I don't know why they can't give out a firm release date for it. The longer they keep me in the dark now, the less I want to buy it. :?
