This week's Nintendo downloads

Altered Beast, Puzzle Bobble, Sudoku
It's another fairly quiet week in the Nintendo downloads department, although if you're a big retro Sega freak you've got Altered Beast to grab.

Personally, we think it's one of the most poorly aged 'classics' in Sega's catalogue, but some still seem to love it. If not, you can always download Sudoku 50 for your mum.

Here's the official list:

WiiWARE - PUZZLE BOBBLE PLUS!
(SQUARE ENIX, 800 Wii Points):
PUZZLE BOBBLE Plus! is a simple, but hugely addictive, puzzle game in which you try to burst a multicoloured mass of bubbles with your very own bubble launcher.

Every time you make a group of three or more bubbles of the same colour, they pop. There are two game modes available: 1P PUZZLE, where players tackle the game's 135 stages in pursuit of a new high score or best time; and BATTLE, in which players take on friends or computer-controlled opponents.

And if all of that doesn't satisfy your passion for popping, there are a total of 270 extra stages waiting for you in the two purchasable add-on content packs. That's 135 new stages per pack.

PUZZLE BOBBLE Plus! is simple to get into and deep enough to keep you coming back for more, so what are you waiting for?!

WiiWARE - WATER WARFARE
(HUDSON SOFT, 800 Wii Points):
Water Warfare is a comical first person shooter that uses water guns to battle and soak your opponents.

Make sure you conjure up new strategies each time you engage in fighting in each of the four themed zones - a Playground, Beach, Plaza, or Nature Park! Game modes include Single Player Missions, CPU Match, and 2-Player Split Screen.

On top of that, you can connect via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to battle with up to eight players from around the world or participate in Ranking Mode.

VIRTUAL CONSOLE - Altered Beast (Virtual Console Arcade)
(SEGA, 900 Wii Points):
"Rise from your grave!" When Zeus, the legendary Greek god, brings you back to life with those famous words, you set forth on a mission to rescue his daughter, Athena, from the wicked God of the Underworld, Neff.

To survive the gauntlet of mythological foes, you must hunt down the white, three-headed wolves that inhabit each stage and collect the Spirit Balls they release to increase your strength and ultimately transform into the Altered Beast! Each Altered Beast possesses powerful attacks that are required to defeat Neff and rescue Athena from the Underworld!

VIRTUAL CONSOLE - SimEarth: THE LIVING PLANET (Turbografx)
(HUDSON SOFT, 800 Wii Points):
An entire planet becomes your laboratory in this large-scale simulation game. Help foster new life and promote its evolution into life forms of higher intelligence. Guide civilization along the path of evolution until it can achieve "Exodus", the ultimate goal of settling on another planet.

The main challenge of the game is to adjust atmospheric and geological parameters and maintain a comfortable environment for the life forms native to your planet. Small organisms called Prokaryote and Trichordate will grow and evolve into a multitude of life forms. Making a drastic change is a recipe for disaster. The key to success is to make small, careful adjustments and watch how the life forms react.

For an extra challenge, SimEarth also includes planets with environments different from Earth, such as Mars and Venus. Try your hand at terraforming these planets with harsh conditions into a world where life can thrive.

NINTENDO DSiWARE - SUDOKU 50! For Beginners
(HUDSON SOFT, 200 DSi Points):
SUDOKU 50! For Beginners is a perfect blend of 50 Sudoku puzzles for those new to the genre.

A handful of tutorials will help you learn the rules and controls as you go, and handy features like "Write Mode" and "Temp Numbers" make Sudoku pleasantly user-friendly.
