Michael Jackson's games: A look back

A tribute to Jacko's gaming appearances - good and bad
To pay tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, who sadly passed away last night, Games Radar's taken a look back at Jacko's gaming appearances gone past.

The Thriller star's contributed to gaming many times over the past decade and half, the most famous of which is probably the lending of his likeness to Sega in the early 90s. Moonwalker had Michael defeating enemies and rescuing hostages with dance magic, and it was also rather good.

Michael's relationship with Sega didn't end there, as he was also heavily reported to have composed the soundtrack for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (see the evidence below) - something that Sega still won't comment on today.

In 1999 and 2002 Michael made cameo appearances in both of Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Space Channel games, under the guise of Space Michael.

Jacko also made an appearance in Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2, as well as a plethora of soundtrack credits in multiple games.

Read the full article over on Games Radar. RIP Jacko, your music was awesome.

Aaaah Moonwalker, 1 of my favourite games on the Mega Drive. Guy was a legend with Sega and made some cool additions to games. Ready to Rumble 2 was comical seeing him fighting in the boxing ring with you. Sad to hear of his death............

used to love moonwalker on the megadrive. hittin off the special move and getting every enemy to dance then explode was great. wasn't there a 4 player moonwalker arcade game where you powered up into that big metal michael?

like the two comments above me, i was a huge fan of Moonwalker on the Megadrive. I never could get past the Zombies in the woods level but i do remember vividly the time i once got hit by the shooting star on that level and turned into the massive metal Michael which shot lasers from its eyes and all sorts! it was one of the greatest moments of my young life at the time!

Moonwalker on the Master System was class but looking back it does seem weird that he 'saved' little girls.

Agree that if we knew then what we know now, we may have questioned that a bit more! still, MJ was a musical genius and i'm sure this is what he will be remembered for in the years to come.

Yep m8 there certainly was a 4 player arcade machine that was awesome as well but really hard lol, ok if 4 players were on it with you.

I felt this needed putting here http://screwattack.com/AVGN/2009/Moonwalker It's AVGN reviewing moonwalker.

It was only ever on arcade that I played Moonwalker, but it was one I kept going back to. It came in variations of 1P, 2P and 4P but I only ever played it with another one person on any of them. One white Michael (fighting... sarcasm...), one red Michael. Think the other colours were light blue and... nah, I forget the last one. Damn.

well done for posting a relevant story CVG, should have posted this first up.

i never played any of the games but it shows how far his reach was in music, films, games, and lots of other forms of entertainment/media.

Although his 'private'life was questionable, there's no denying he was a musical legend! Moonwalker the game actually wasn't that 'bad'-sorry! Shamone Michael! Rip.

Good on you Cvg for paying tribute to what is undoubtably a music legend and the greatest entertainer I have ever seen. I really liked the Megadrive Moonwalker game, and its actually what got me into Michael Jacksons music in the first place, which was, and still is f*&$ing awesome.

Nice posts and good games from the decade which was what made games today. It's always sad to hear of a death, regardless of unproven tabloid headlines over the years. But, it good to know he'll be remembered in so many ways and stretched that far to including us gamers! I even remember buying now3 with him in the complilation *shame*! lol :)

Great great artist on so many levels. Humbled to have met him a couple of times in the 70's and 80's.

The games I knew nothing about however, being a PC rather than console gamer.

Gutted about the news still, would have loved to see him live. I live near The O2, so was looking forward to the opportunity.
I had the Mega Drive when I was a kid, but never played Moonwalker, sounds like I missed out on a good game!
