Natal equipped Xbox 360 confirmed

Microsoft CEO drops word on a new 360 featuring built-in motion control
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has let slip a few nuggets about the firm releasing an Xbox featuring an in-built motion sensing camera. Someone's going to get a good talking to...

In a speech made at The Executive's Club of Chicago, Ballmer said the new Xbox 360 will feature technology that is "really close" to an actuality, a built in motion sensing camera and a "natural interface," reports TG Daily.

Following Ballmer's speech Kotaku spoke to Xbox 360 director of product management Aaron Greenberg.

He said that "we're not going to be launching a new console any time soon," before adding that Microsoft was considering making a Natal equipped Xbox 360 console. "Yes, we have looked at that, but we haven't announced any details for something like that."

It's clearly happening then but don't expect a lot more to be released on the subject in the near future. We've got a feeling the PR machine will kick into overdrive and lock loose tongues down.

Hasnt this rumour already been debunked?
Posted by ParmaViolet
To be honest, I was under the impression that this wasn't even a secret (perhaps I'm missing something here, wouldn't be the first time..)

MS clearly stated at E3 that a 360/Natal package would be released. Now, I'm not sure if they meant a redesigned box that includes Natal built in - but, who would actually want that?...surely that would require you having the 360 aiming at you directly at all times? (no good for me - mine sits on a shelf).

:)

I'll probably start caring when we see some decent looking games.

Seeing as I already own a 360, news of a new console with a camera built in is of little interest.

But that's just me.

No, this was a fact stated at E3, but it seems the press weren't listening! The one that was debunked, was about a slightly improved 360.

I feel sorry for the built in camera :( What with extremely hot GPU and DVD drive inside.

Sigh... typical CVG 'no real news today, so lets just make up a headline' article...

Firstly, if you read the actual cut and paste comments CVG have put above at no point in any of them do microsoft confirm that there will be a natal equiped xbox.

Secondly, Microsoft have made a confirmation that there will be 'no new console soon', again cut and pasted by CVG, if you actually look at the article on kotaku it goes into even more detail about how there won't be a new natal equiped console.

Let me say right from the outset, personally I think we will see an natal bundled xbox, with a cheaper retail price if you buy the camera and the xbox. Maybe there will be a new version of the console to go with it...

However at the moment we really don't know, and for CVG to lie and make up headlines such as 'Natal equipped Xbox 360 confirmed' is very bad journalism.

I suspect they will include the motion camera thingy as standard will all 360s at some point.
It makes sense, especially if the camera can be produced at a low cost. If they can sell it on it own for the same price as a standard wireless controller and include some killer "Wii Sports" style games with it, then I think MS could be onto a winner.

Every forum has a retard

I will second that.

The technology is very interesting and could lead to some very interesting games, but I have been a gamer for many moons and seen many 'game changing' pieces of technology drift on by... VMU anybody?

MS need to show an actual game using natal before most people will show more than just interest in it.
Posted by nicostorm
Agreed, although it is looking like it will be a really cool piece of tech, at the moment Im not convinced at the moment that the games will be of interest to me. But, I shall wait and see what comes out.

That's what I thought....mind you, the Arcade model now comes with 512Mb instead of 256Mb (but, I suspect that's just due to the costs being lower on memory) - perhaps some of these sources got their wires crossed?

Me too - obviously you can't get too excited about Natal just yet, purely because it's all just possibilities....but, as you said - it looks liek a really cool piece of tech - so, I'm very keen to see what games will support it.

Probably have to wait until next years E3, mind you.

With all this built in, the power supply will be bigger than the 360 itself!
Posted by StonecoldMC
Aaahhh!

That makes a bit more sense.

Merci

Natal...MEH!!!

hope it flops virtual boy style

Last reason to buy a 360 - gone.

built in camera would suck. I really don't want my games console sitting at the base of the telly.

CVG you get worse and worse at repoting news everyday, this was debunked yesterday. As usual someone's words taken out of context. There is no new console coming with natal...it will be launched standalone first, no need to upgrade your console and then bundled with consoles as a deal for the "holiday period" to boost sales of the 360.
Posted by bgriffithsps3
What if you don't have your console positioned directly infront of you though. Surely it would make more sense to have it as is seeing as the Natal will fit nicely infront of most TVs, or on top.
Posted by altitude2k
A new console? No. A new sku with Natal in the box? Almost certainly.
Posted by dannybuoy
I'm sorry, I don't see how Natal will work without a control stick of some kind... There is no way I'm running on the spot to make my onscreen character run about... that will just look ridiculous! Sure, I can see this creating new game types, but I'm sorry, I just can't see it working for conventional games. Plus i want to be able to sit there and veg out playing my games.. maybe they could have a flat peripheral with no buttons on it at all and Natal detects the button presses from your fingers as if there was buttons on it... *shudder*... back to square one... Joypad FTW!
Posted by ricflair
Exactly what I was thinking. Imagine if the sensor bar was part of the wii. Although at least the wii is probably just about small enough to sit on top of a CRT TV!
Posted by bgriffithsps3
I'm with Danny there really. But hey, it's never going to actually replace pads. It's going to be aimed at casuals really, which is no bad thing if they want to pump money into the industry which will also be used to develope 'pad' games.

Or it might become an epic fail and underused piece of kit. Like my ps3 eyetoy. Seriously sony just have the work experience kid bodge something together at least and stick it on PSN.
Posted by skidpro
ummmmm...I thought this was debunked? MS denied a NATAL separate console, just an add on? How bad is this headline and then read the article to read its not coming out as new console? And if so, they I will not be buying any more MS consoles, I got a PS3 too, at least they are making a decent motion controller to work with eye create, therefore no need for a new console skus? I am beginning to beome disalussioned with MS and a NATAL 360, if NATAL is add on only ok fine...I dont want a console with it built in, that richochet game looks like fun, but like the wii boxing its flipping tiring as all motion type Wii stuff is, i just want a PAd, if families want to jump around like idiots fine, but dont expect me to buy a natal console...next thing will be running around living room with pretend rifle pretending to shoot in modern warfare 2...oh dear..what a thought...:)

AT LAST

You can buy a new version of the same console that you already had, but with added motion sensor technology that no one asked for.

thats right kids, you too can talk to the AI Milo and pretend that real people do not matter anymore.

seriously though...interesting tech, but its not needed.

"Someone's going to get a good talking to..."
Hmmm, Steve Ballamer's in charge of MS now, so who's going to tell him off?
