Expecting him to start rapping at any second  TOTALLY F***ABLE anybody else just waiting for him to scream yippie kay ay mother******.
It looks like Die Hard 5, die old and beardy. looks to be set in brazil id say which is a shame i say cus with his new look they cudve well pulled off a die hard 3 ripoff if they kept it in the city :p Doesn't look anything like Max Payne, heck the environments could easily have been pulled from Stranglehold. Best. Film concept. Evar. It is MASSIVELY diehard! I thought of John McClean as soon as I saw the shots!
Don't think too much of the graphics tbh. Is that a bit of a belly I see there ?. Best get some pills and start the slow-mo jogging to burn some fat of first. Hot damn! You're right!
On a more sober note, I'm not sure how appealing this most recent version of Max Payne is. The gameplay will be more crucial than ever if I'm to consider parting with money for this. WHERE'S 'IS 'AIR AND COAT?! What have they done to our Max? AND OH MY GOD. A BEARD! A BLOODY BIG BUSHY BEARD! I can almost smell the generic. It's obviously not in New York anymore either. Which perhaps is a good thing as it could add a much needed helping of colour to the shooter genre, yet contrasts entirely with the grittiness of the previous Max Payne games. I'm more than willing to see what happens mind. After all, could one of the most awesome franchises in recent gaming history be ruined by the usually flawless Rockstar? Let's hope Remedy don't screw up Alan Wake when they should've been making this. Not what I expected. First Snake, then Sam Fisher and now Max Payne. Is it fashionable to old now? Suits me.
I have to agree that the visuals look a bit poor by todays standards. The backgrounds especially. Last year it was Africa, this year Rio De Janeiro. I always imagined Max Payne a sort of cool detective smart but sloppy suits and trench coats, sort of someone Tom Waits would mention in a song, clutching a battered package of Kent's washing down tranquilizers with swigs a 5 dollar hooch and a out a date stripper as a girlfriend you know the deal. And if you dont know what i mean.
Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight, And nobody flinched down by the arcade And the marquees weren't weeping, they went stark-raving mad, And the cabbies were the only ones that really had it made And his cold trousers were twisted, and the sirens high and shrill, And crumpled in his fist was a five-dollar bill And the naked mannequins with their Cheshire grins, And the raconteurs and roustabouts said "Buddy, come on in, 'cause 'Cause the dreams ain't broken down here now, they're walking with a limp Now that Small Change got rained on with his own thirty-eight" What have they done to him!? Where are the dark twisted streets and corny Mafia bosses!? I like the beer gut in pic 2  Wow, I didn't realise Mr. T was into games. Nor realised he was white now I'm with suchthef00l, I instantly thought of Sage Francis when I saw this, hopefully he performs Sea Lion, thats probably my favourite Sage track. Cover System... GAH!
DAMN YOU GEARS OF WAR! DAMN YOU!!
*Throws toys out of pram*
This game used to be about jumping at people in dual wielding, bullet-time, drug fueled glory... now it looks like another Gears clone. Hope they prove me wrong. Add to that the film noir-esque nature of it, and you've hit the nail on the head.
Unfortunately (even though the screens are early days) it looks like everything from the past games has been completely ignored and left out.
Bah. The more I look at these pics the less enthusiastic I become towards this game. True, it's early days yet in terms of what we've seen but my gut feeling as of right now is not a positive one. Oh well. Thankfully MW2 looks brilliant and should land around the same time if the release dates are to be believed. Yeah, I'm sort of worried now myself.
I loved the gritty, dark city streets feel. I always thought Max was a guy who started out wanted to be better than he could afford to be, hence the suits.
I never thought I'd see him start to resemble flippin' Zangief from Streetfighter. And they'd better have a damn good reason for him ditching the coat. I love my 3/4 length leather :)
I can understand that he might have lost the plot after the first games and his painkiller addiction, but this is looking more like an action adventure title (the screens look like Uncharted) than a film noir story. Max Payne was all about the fun of the gunplay for me and the same goes for Rockstar it seems. Did we really need another New York caper with copious mafioso to gun down? GTA has that sort of thing covered these days doesn't it? Plus, putting some distance between the Max games and the awful movie is probably a good idea I'm reserving judgement til I see a video. . theres a big difference between the combat in GTA and max payne.
love diving round corners or backwards etc letting rip with the uzi's. and the bullet time is a major part of this game.
WTF happened to the character though?! What's Zangief doing there I was just thinking that!... Coats are allergic to oppressively humid tropical weather. I can understand why people would react unfavourably towards the move down to Brazil. But if you want real gritty 'gangsterishness' I think a move down to Aouth America is the best you can do. Parts of Brazil and Columbia make New York or any 'hood' in America look like Centreparcs. I'm looking forward to this one. This game looks nothing like max payne, the guy looks like he's a bit too under-excersized o.O WTF, that is so John McClane with a beard: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_KYgjpL1TYxQ/SLHVOKRD1NI/AAAAAAAAArE/0Bezn3I4N90/s1600/brucewillis.jpg
Why don't they just call it 'Max on Fire: With a Vengeance'. No need for those kind of coats in hot & humid Brazil!
I'm looking forward to this anyhow. His appearance will make sense once you read the official background story. What on earth have they done... Doesn't even look remotely like the previous 2 games. Gone is the hardboiled, gritty-look that gave this series an edge. Like someone said, looks like a Strangehold rip-off. Thanks but no thanks. Alan Wake it is then... Why does he look different from the last two games? Also what's he doing away from New York?
Well... After the last two games it seems that Max has aged. This happens to some people. Age and maybe the personal loss and stress that he has endured during these games (not counting the time in-between them and this new game)has caused a little hair loss?
Perhaps, vanity has taken over him slightly and he has decided to shave off the remains of his hair?
It would also appear that Max has let himself go somewhat. Beard? Grubby appearance? Who knows what has happened to him in the intervening years?
Wouldn't it be interesting to find out?
By giving the game a chance and seeing if a series that has so far had great narrative could fill in the gaps? Well OK, I'll give it a go. This. When an old friend wanders back into town dressed like a paraffin lamp ,and his head on upside down friends are going to worry , But yeah your right badperhog lets hear what he has too say for himself before we judge . scar on his face now.
10/10 for originality. where's the dark gritty max payne? Dunno if the change in direction will work! but u never know! I'm guesing by the comments and shots in this thread that most people havent played Max Payne (including the people making this).
What a shame. Maybe it will be brilliant now theyve changed the camera, Max, added a cover system (its called a ****ing duck/crouch buttonn, we've had one for over 20 years we) taken away the dark and corny story and probabaly added QTE moments.
I'm a HUGE Payne fan though so I'll still try to play this and I'll go into it with an open mind. They may just pull it off, none of know how it will play after all. |
