Metroid creator "encourages" Prime sequel

Yoshio Sakamoto keen to see what Retro comes up with
Metroid co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto has said he'd "encourage" Retro Studios - developer of the Metroid Prime games - to come up with another idea for the series.

"With regards to the Prime series, if the team at Retro comes up with an idea that does bring a sequel to the series to fruition, I by all means encourage them to do that," he said.

"But I'm not directly involved with the Prime games. In terms of the Metroid series stories that I've told, the games that I've been involved in, I started with the NES Metroid and took it through Fusion.

"I'm hoping to tie the Super Metroid and Fusion stories together, and until I do that I can't think about what happens after Fusion, but if the concept does come to me I'd like to continue the story and see how far it can go," he told Wired.

Sakamoto also spoke of his aims with the upcoming (and sweet-looking) Metroid Other M. "Within the greater Metroid series, the Other M story will tie together the stories that took place in Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion," he said.

"One of my goals is to present Samus as an appealing human character, and that involves explaining a little bit about what happened in her past as well as the characters that influenced her. The story will play a big part."

I would love to see another Metroid game in the same fashion as Prime, if not on Wii then maybe the next Nintendo console. For now though I look forward to the Prime Trilogy and Other M. :)

Looking forward to Other M, but what I really want is either a new 2D Metroid or a portable version of Super Metroid.

you can already make yourself a portable version of super metroid. if you've got a ds and an R4. gotta love portable emulation.

I know it's possible using R4, but since I work at a gamestore I really want all R4 users to get raped by a bulldozer. Even if you're not using it for illegal games, you're still supporting production of the damn things and thus taking away the food on my table.

I could not agree more (esp. about the bulldozer)

However a somebody who has modded practically every console he owns. I take umbridge with having someone sell me something and then only let me use a quarter of its functions and restrict functions already on board the device just so they can turn further profit later.

I use my R4 so i can play the old lucas arts point and clicks on the move and emulation.

You do realise that companies such as gamestation do also eat into the profits of devs and publishers by pushing used software over selling new. Its basically legitimate piracy.
