By the time you have bought all three campaigns, Starcraft 2 is going to cost twice as much as Starcraft and Brood War combined! Well, excuse me, but even though I think Starcraft 2 will be good, there's no way it will be TWICE as good as the original, because the original was bloody fantastic!!!
This is Blizzard saying 'we know there are very few PC games coming out now, so let's make money from the desperate PC gamers who are gagging for a decent game.
This is opportunism I feel, like Black Marketeers in WWII. Blizzard should have been put under the spotlight a lot more by the media and gamers about their decision to sell each campaign separately and for full price! I don't really see it that way. Practically all RTS games are expanded upon down the line. The first release will have the entire multiplayer component and a single player campaign, as one would expect. The only difference will be how the single player content will be divided between expansions.
It's not like we're getting the equivalent of a third of the single player levels from the first game, we're getting a lengthy campaign from the human point of view that took Blizzard all of this ridiculously long development time to create. And then the other races will be explored in depth, instead of splitting up the story between the games.
The way I see it (or at least I hope) we are getting three times the Starcraft, not regular amount of Starcraft for three times the price. Just as the release of Brood War was a good thing if you liked the original. Well, from everything I read and heard all we're getting is about the same by the time you buy all three plus multiplayer. And if Starcraft was a full game, then I can't see each campaign, whatever Blizzard do with them, matching individually what Starcraft brought to the table.
I still say that my surmising and your surmising just shows how Blizzard have not been under the spotlight at all for this decision and just because they are Blizzard I suppose, no one is getting out of them why they think this is right!
And you talking about 'all this time' is ridiculous.it's not as if they have gone 'open world' and '3D'. From all the videos and screenshots I have seen it's the same 3/4 view and just a bit prettier graphics. and no one is going to convince me the gameplay or AI can be better than the first Starcraft, so where does that leave us? Well, I've heard that Starcraft 2 will have the same amount of missions as Starcraft 1, so we aren't getting short changed at all, thus I have not felt the urge to vilify Blizzard. In any case, this is just speculation, all we have is Blizzard's word that it will be a full sized game.
You are suggesting perhaps that the expansion content is already existent at this stage and Blizzard are holding it back? That the title releasing this year could not possible have been in development for the six years Blizzard claim? It may be that I am too trusting. I'm inclined to agree with Humorguy on this one. Thus I do not anticipate I will be buying Starcraft II upon release. When/if I buy it, it will be when all three episodes have been released and can be bought in one pack. By that time it will be an older game probably with a disproportionally high price resulting in my attention and money being directed to other games. Maybe someday, years down the road, I'll buy a discount version of the three part compilation.
Diablo III I'm interested in; Starcraft II pt. 1 not so much. @KFD_Case, I think that's what a lot of us are going to do. I am not paying three times £40 or whatever to get what I got for £35 10 years ago. If Starcraft 2 had gone 3D and open world with a couple 100 sub missions and then 2 large DLC's at £20 each,. maybe. But not this.
And @Sir_Squiggles, I think the vast majority of PC gamers are far too trusting, so to be honest, you are in the majority group and I am in the minority one. And all I would want to say about that is if the PC gaming media and PC gamers had been a little more circumspect, PC gaming wouldn't be the mess it is in.... Uhuh. I think I'll leave you and your tinfoil hats to yourselves :) We'll leave you with your wooly one - oh sorry, that's your hair! :) It gets all in my eyes sometimes :( Arnt people going to find the whole resource collecting part of this really annoying after the relic games?
That alone has put me off, along with the crazy business strategy..
Diablo 3 on the otherhand is a day one purchase..gimmie |
