Xbox Live Gold for $1 in US

A month for a buck... then back to normal
North American Xbox Live Silver members now have no excuse not to upgrade to the proper Gold service... unless they're level 50 street tramps.

Microsoft's offering a month of Gold membership for $1 (£0.61) to its US users, according to an ad spotted on (where else?) Xbox Live. Although of course it's only a "limited-time offer".

Once the 60p month's finished North American punters - unless they bail out - will be automatically charged for the remaining 11 months of membership - and that won't cost $1.

We're on the case with Microsoft UK to see if this deal is going to jump the pond.

Thanks, Joystiq.

"I'd buy that for a dollar" !

It already has. It's £1 for a month over here. My missus signed up last night so she could play online on her account for a change.

If CVG had bothered to research this story properly they would found that UK people can get Gold membership for £1 for a month and I suspect this offer is available for most regions.
This was advertised on Xbox Live yesterday evening so CVG have no excuse for getting this story wrong.
Very sloppy!!!

1 buck would be the maximum I'd be willing to spend on that useless service. Not once have I had any need for the Gold membership.

this sounds like a scam.

Well you wouldn't need it if you're happy playing with yourself, would you...?

Yep it is, i bought a £1 sub yesterday before this story even emerged.

"Not once have I ever needed Gold Membership"

You must be joking, You have obviously never played online then. the majority of games have brilliant multiplayer options so you are missing out. Big time.

Online gaming existed before the Xbox, and continues to exist elsewhere :?

I always get multiplayer titles on PC. I get single player games on 360.

He's/She's a bitter and twisted PS3 child, so of course Gold Membership is crap...nothing more than pathetic jealousy!

I think your comment was the pathetic one !!

So, once I've done with the month, I'm automatically charged eh?

Im assuming MS is most likely banking on a lot of people forgetting to "bail out" and then being charged.

I might do it, Might get something else instead.

So if I buy this, would it extend on to the 2 months which I have left, so my subscription runs out in September rather than August?
Posted by dark_gamer
Actually this is available over here because my brother even showed me the same offer for £1 (his Gold ran out recently).

I'd get gold again, was even tempted by this offer- but really don't like the policy of-
Once the month is over it then automatically renews at £4.99 a month until you cancel it.

You can't even cancel it online or anywhere on the x-box dashboard. You've to phone up a call centre in some obscure country. Its awful!
