Sounds a bit daft really, there is still a sizeable audience there Right, I agree with him that perhaps anything they sell with Sony doesn't have quite such a high gross profit margin, but they must still make damn good money off the console.
Take COD Guitar Hero etc.

I think this is a bit of a ridiculous shout out. Who does it help? I think someone is going to be told to keep their mouth shut for a while. The day Activision stop supporting Sony, is the day my willy is a haddock. It's just stupid. I doubt it will happen. Although EA never supported the Dreamcast, they did state that very early on in it's life. This does open up questions though as to why certain third-parties develop exclusive titles for Sony. The only one I can see reversing the trend and selling well is Rockstar's Agent, games such as Heavy Rain, Grasshopper's title and The Last Guardian don't seem the type to be raking in the cash.
BTW I'm predicting 1000+ posts! Next time you see stories like this on CVG, go buy shares in Future, as their increased ad revenues from stories like this will lead to greater dividends for all investors.

The only good games they have under there belt is COD and the recent Prototype. transformers and the recent Spider-man games. don't get me started with the ever the same Tony Hawk franchise..

A greedy company like Activision turning it's back on (any) console, I'll believe it when I see it. I'm sure Activision are competing to be as popular as a turd in a swimming pool. I'd understand if he said it and they olny had maybe 1 or 2 games due out on Sony's console, or, if they hadn't sold millions and millions of copies of their games on the PS3, but they have.

It's gonna be alright. the PS3 is a sinking ship if ever I saw one. The majority of people I know never switch theirs on for anything other than movies now, myself included.
Ubisoft have voiced similar concerns to this in the past. Really is game over for Sony this gen. Hope they go back to the drawing board and get back to basics for the next console. *wipes away tears*

I can't see activision giving up on GH and CoD money from PS3 owners, it's not like they've been pouring money into exclusives that come out looking like crap. This guy isn't talking out of his ass. He's expressing a very tangible concern. Go to any store and you'll see stacks and stacks of PS3 games. I wouldn't worry too much about Activision stopping the support,but you can pretty much forget about Sony ever regaining "Teh Lead" this gen. TBH ive never really been a fan of acti games anyway so, so long as games like assassins creed and AAA sony dev games are on PS3 I wont cry. His logic about attach rates is incredibly flawed. If the ps3 stops selling then attach rates can only go up. attach rates only go down when a console is selling but people stop buying games. Sony will be in trouble unless the slash the PS3's price very very soon. I actually have 2 ps3s (one uk and one us) so I can use the video and game options at the same time (or my girlfriend can use one) - i prefer the split screen option. I've got almost 50 games but not one activision title (rent cod5 - finished it didn't really feel i was missing much) - splinter cell looks good but to honest of all the developers their the one I'm least worried about losing.
ea on the other hand - i'd only bough one of their games before the ps3 and now have about 8 - its strange how so many things have changed this genteration. Nintendo selling the most and ea bringing out new and interesting IP. and fifa being the best football game - its like a parrellel universe first the guy in the god of war thread now this. has someone left the asylum doors open again? :lol: I doubt they would stop support the PS3 outright, but they may stop supporting the PS3 for any new franchises, removes some of the risk if they have lower dev costs when focusing on the 360 and Wii.
The 'proven' franchises that do make them money I'm sure will continue to come to the PS3.

Although I do have both a 360 and PS3, i'd happily welcome a PS3 price drop, for the state of the industry, and if only to make it cheap enough for thick fanboys to afford so they stop whinging about things and just attempt to grow up. Afraid you're the confused one - attach rate is just an average number of games sold per console, got nothing to do with buying them at the same time. If Activision are spending extra millions specifically on the PS3 versions of games due to the complexities of developing for it and it has the smallest userbase of the main 3 consoles, of course this will be impacting on their profits.
So he's putting major pressure on Sony to drop the price in the hope that this will trigger a large increase in system sales and greater profits for Activision. If Sony stay stubborn over the price, I can see a lot of other publishers doing the same thing. Erm... no, it doesn't. That would be the PS3. I won't miss call of duty and guitar hero games anyway. Wii has sold nearly three times as many consoles as PS3 so thats more important in the long run surely. If your going to sell games you want to sell on the machine that has the biggest installed base and has high sale figures for it games. So which are you going to choose to make them on. Allow me to explain the immediately obvious problems with that link.
1. It's about 2 months out of date.
2. It uses NPD data which means it covers North America only.
3. It doesn't include Wii Sports (why?).
4. (And this is the important one) I've seen that story before. About two days later they retracted it because they got the figures wrong.
:lol: I guess it depends on what it cost to dev for the PS3 and how much they make off PS3 games. They might make a profit but if they took those guys making the PS3 version and had them making another game for the Wii or 360 then they would be doing better right? This could also be an attempt to stir shit up to get dumbass Sony to drop the price of the PS3...Which they should have done already. :lol: Priceless. I can't see Activision dropping support from PS3 entirely, they may not choose to release a few titles on it (like movie tie-ins), but they'd be fools to dismiss the extra revenue generated from their big hitters like CoD.
I'm noticing a pattern here on this site though; it's considered trolling to suggest something negative about the 360 by most the community, but PS3 bashing is not only rife but fair play also? now that would be the end of the world right there. Not to be fanboyistical or anything, but the PS3 is far from 'losing momentum'. The PS3 gains it every month. The PS3 has outsold the Wii and 360 in Japan since the release of Resi 5 (Biohazard 5 over there), that was published in this month's issue of Play Magazine. I own all three current gen games consoles, and the only one that I have bought a game on for months has been the PS3 (I also buy PC games a lot, Last Remnant last Saturday, actually). Nintendo haven't released a good game since mid-2007 (MP3), and the only thing left to look forward to on the 360 is Alan Wake (Forza pails next to Gran Turismo, Halo is overrated and full of eight year olds who spout racial abuse at you, Natal looks cool will be mostly for party games like a glorified Eyetoy and there probably won't be any Gears 'till the next Xbox) Multiplat games I buy on PS3 or PC as they are free online (same as XBL, I experienced XBL through free months in games, no difference between the two at all).
The man is not talking out of his arse however, as the PS3 does tend to sell lower in America and is on about level footing in Europe (with the Xbox). The PS3 is the hardest and most expensive to develop for, but news is abound that Sony are shipping newer and more friendly developer kits to all developers. The PS3 does, however, need a price cut. I agree with that, even though to me it is amazing value for money now (free online, blu-ray, web browser, built in wi-fi and wireless controllers that don't need batteries), more people would buy it with a price cut. I expect them to announce one at TGS or Liepzig since almost the entire world wants one, which will put them in a strong position over Christmas.

Cool. I'll give you a choice out of Puma, Nike or Converse! You may have answered your own question. A company like Activision has a lot of ongoing projects at any given time; not all of which will earn their keep. That means the big, successful titles cover more than just their own costs financially speaking. This allows Activision to take more chances but in the end some arbitrary profit margin decided upon by those in management must be met, and if it's easier to meet that profit margin in certain markets with lower overhead costs then those markets are going to be more attractive than ones where the return is less but the risks are the same. Redirecting the resources spent on a less profitable market towards the more profitable markets is an entirely valid business decision.
However, there are other factors such as amount of units shifted for example, which come in to play (e.g. depending on the total sales figure and amount of units sold it may be preferable to sell a few very expensive units with a low profit margin percentage given the sheer amount of money it generates vs. selling a lot of low priced units with a moderate profit margin...and vice versa). It's a numbers game and anyone who thinks it's purely about the love of making games is in for a rude awakening. »

I can't see them stopping support for the PS3. I don't know what percentage of the market goes to each console, but I'm guessing around 35-40% is PS3? (Look at the best sellers list), But the fact that BOTH format's versions are in the top sellers list, and that they occupy adjacent positions, shows that the PS3 is still shifting games for them, and lots of them.
I agree with a lot of the other posters here in that Activision are getting a little too big for their boots. And I also agree with people wondering what the huge issue is with PS3 price? Yes, it is more expensive than the others, but it is also newer, and more advanced in some aspects (I'm not flaming or being a fan-boy, I own all 3 consoles) - I would definitely say it's worth the money with the games library now and upcoming on the PS3. I will be the first to admit that it wasn't upon it's initial release, hence why I didn't get it until a year later, when it was.
All in all, I think that Activision would be making a big mistake to drop support for Sony. Or maybe this is them covertly announcing that they are being paid for exclusivity by M$ (Like I said, I own, and love, my 360, but what MS are doing by throwing money around at developers is sickening.) If you look at various sites, like I posted earlier, PS3 versions of multiformat titles are outselling 360 ones. The converse is true on other sites, I will admit - the point is, the compaines are making the games, and people are buying them, for all platforms. One thing I have noticed lately is that a lot of multi-format console titles are also on PC - it's these versions that seem to be selling the least, if you base it on store sales charts. Yet, you don't hear companies threatening to withdraw PC support - it's like many are saying - Activision are trying to goad Sony into a price cut. What's a paperwate? Like they would, they don't have the nuts! must be run buy bunch of monkeys if they did. Myself i would snap a PS3 up if i could get one with a game or 2 (maybe another Joypad) for less than Ł200 (Ł150 preferably) but i cant justify the layout at the moment.

However, what the PS3 *might* shift in units in the future is somewhat irrelevant in the short term perspective of a game's life cycle where it depends far more on how many people have the console and are potential customers *in the present*. Or it could be that some individuals, like myself, have the funds to buy a PS3 but do not consider it the perceived amount of "bang for buck" sufficient to justify the price. Buying goods or services isn't always just about whether one can afford to do it or not. The customer has to be enticed and what might work on you may not work on others, and vice versa. Besides, I imagine I'm not alone in thinking that there isn't exactly an acute need to have more than one console unless you are absolutely determined to play a few specific games, thus once one console has been bought that's it for that round of console generations. Add PCs in to the mix - which many people do have - and there's even less reason to buy two or three different consoles. What about the other years? 8) In it's day the PS2 was described as being the hardest platform to develop games on, but it had the lions share of hardware sales, so publishers had to give it their full support. Now the PS3 is in the same possition, only it has a far smaller piece of the pie to play with, making it less cost effective to publish on(how many Wii games can you make for the price of one PS3 game?). I went through 5 PS2s in 4 years and i know plenty of people who had similair problems with them. In fact only 1 console went back to Sony the rest were replacements from the stores. So if your logic is true is it not identical to Sonys PS2 success story? If Activision stop supporting PS3 then it could be the nail in the coffin as it would mean PS3 would be missing out on some of the best games and I could imagine if Activision stop developing others may follow. Do research for yourself and you'll find that actually the PS3 is doing rather well thank you! I think you're missing the point. Whilst the PS3 has relatively sold well, it was expected to be doing much better than it has so far by these 3rd party developers. Factor in the higher cost of developing for the platform and you can see why he said this.
Anyway, I've said it before, they won't cease developing for the PS3, it's just a threat. I think everyone agrees that the PS3 is over priced. Especially when compared to the 360 and the Wii. It is the Blu Ray whcih is mainly stopping the price slump, if no blu ray players drop in price then they can't drop the price of the console. Cool, they really are taking over from EA, the thing is they haven’t worked out that being arrogant doesn’t go down with gamers, but the quality of games is what matters. Take a look at your catalog Bobby you Mug, maybe that’s your attach issue. They also dropped a massive Clanger with Brutal Legend, one of the most promising games they had and EA said thanks very much.
They are Milking Blood out of GH these days, and some other games are going by the wayside too.
The jewel in their crown is CoD and I am sure that the PS3 share is probably around the 40% mark of share of the game. That’s not the sort of revenue you want to cut off.

I haven't brought a game for my pS3 since last year summer. I was waiting for Killzone 2, but it just isn't the game we all thought it would be. Gears of War eats it up online. and none of the Sony games at E3 are even coming out this year? I'm done with my ps3 What game did you think it would be?

APB No way I can be assed to read all this, but all I can say is - knowing how money motivated Activision are, there is no way in HELL they would stop supporting the PS3/Sony. The only thing this is is scare tactics to try to force Sony into a price drop. This HAS to be a p*ss take, no one is that retarded and still allowed to interact with humans. In hindsight it's easy to say that Sony aimed too high with the PS3 but before it came out, with all the (slightly exaggerated) storys about what the console would be capable of doing it looked like Sony had yet another recipe for success, but come launch day it's high price coupled with it's frankly appalling line up of launch games was the reason it bombed, that's why I can't understand why Sony won't cut the price of it, it's finally got a few genuinely exciting exclusives coming out for it so surely it would at least give the 360 a run for it's money if it did drop in price. ok marty if that was a dig at me calling me retarded i think the guy who wrote a rap about the ps3 is slighty more of a retard :lol: most of the ps3 fanboys are all chavs who buy there games off the dole haha

8) You have faaaar too much spare time. I don't believe they made the PS3 difficult to program for deliberately. It's all ill-advised propoganda. It's new technology as far as I'm aware, and as such it took a while for developers to 'get it'.
Microsoft went for the PC in the box option, which made it easier to program for yet incurs it's own problems. The amount of crashes I had in the early days was ridiculous.
