HD-DVD or Blu-ray? Doesn't matter says Gates

We'll all be downloading content off the web anyway...
Microsoft boss Bill Gates doesn't appear to be too concerned about the format war between HD-DVD and Blu-ray. He believes downloading content via the web will eventually reign supreme in the future.

As much as we tried and tried, we couldn't get hold of Bill Gates for a quick chat about the future of HD-DVD at CES in Vegas. Lord knows we tried. Our book of contacts doesn't stretch that far. But it's a good job USA Today's does.

They got hold of Microsoft's main man at CES and asked him about his reaction to Warner's announcement backing Blu-ray and if it means the end of HD-DVD (which MS has supported with 360).

"There has been a lot of back and forth," began Gates. "The announcement before that was Paramount putting exclusive support behind HD-DVD. HD-DVD did well over the holidays. The other trend we're seeing is that direct download over broadband - I think the greatest example of that is Xbox Live - (is) becoming an important choice. Over time, that will be the dominant way that people get their movies."

So, it doesn't matter in the end. We'll all be downloading our high-de movies and TV shows. You can read more here.
