It'll be out for "holiday" this year. Awesome. Here's Nintendo's official word:

"New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Developers at Nintendo have dreamed of creating a simultaneous multiplayer Super Mario Bros. game for decades. The Wii console finally makes that dream come true for everyone this holiday season.

"Now players can navigate the side-scrolling worlds alone as before or invite up to three others to join them at the same time on the same level at any point in the game for competitive and cooperative multiplayer fun in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

"With the multiplayer mode, the newest installment of the most popular video game franchise is designed to bring yet another type of family entertainment into living rooms and engage groups of friends in fast-paced Super Mario Bros. fun."

real creative Nintendo...

Crap!

Sorry, but why? One reason I can think of is cos Super Mario Galaxy and 3D Mario games don't sell that well in Japan, whereas this did brisk business. It would've been a bit better if it wasn't just the DS version graphics too..

Still, rather lame. Where's Super Mario World with bells and whistles??

Boring!

OMG! Fact and figures! Big N take a page from Ms book of press conferences.

You can hate the simplicity but this is what huge swarms of people wanted - GET IN.

The fact they've gone back to basics to please shows they listen, sure Mario Galaxy is my favourite Wii game but some retro-goodness is welcome.

If only that little f*cking blue hedgehog would take notes....

No man, its pure laziness. Its not so much the game being simple. Its just not a new game! They could've done the back to basics with an entirely new game.

So that's two 'new' games from Nintendo. No wonder I'm going off games (sigh)

I've wanted this for a long time. As long as the levels are all new, then it's on! Finished the DS game and loved every second of it.

What the frig Ninty??????? It sounds like Little big super mario planet but in a very BAD way!
Fingers crossed that they haven't ****ed Pikmin 3 up!

CAN NOT WAIT!!!!
Having a "special" Wii, i've been enjoying all sorts of retro goodness... but a new 2D Mario is just the best news!
Microsoft who?!

Everyone's always saying they love 2D Mario games; well now you've got one (again). Why complain?

From my point of view, apart from Mario World on SNES, I must admit to not being a fan of Mario in general. I've always found him pretty irritating as a chracter with all that "Woohoo!" nonsense and borderline-racist Italian accent. Only when Sonic opens his trap are mascots more grating.

New Super Mario Bros on DS was good, but it was generally treading pretty tired ground. Of course, heaven forbid that anyone should doubt a Mario platformer's supposed brilliance.

I think its sad that the only games we look forward to from Nintendo are franchises that have long-since achieved their pinnacle of excellence. I say its high time Nintendo created a completely new franchise that gives us renewed cause to get excited. If this doesn't happen at E3 today after lasts years' backlash, then I'd give up hope of ever seeing anything other than nod and wink iterations of Mario and Zelda for the rest of our days.

Not good, looked average at best. Unless new pikmin or kid icarus is shown I'll be disappointed again, who gives a shit about wii fit plus.

2d old school mario is never a bad thing. i loved the propellor suit. that was cool.

New Mario Galaxy Wii!!!

Did I say this was the best news?! Mario Galaxy 2... Now that was the best news ever and totally unexpected!! Nintendo now own E3 :D :D :D :D

As long as they don't have to spend too much money making the game, but rake in lots of money releasing the game, that's what really matters.

*AWW!*
*plays the end theme to Happy Days*

Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo.
Maybe it's just me but I can remember having to search for all 96 levels or all 120 stars.
New Super Mario Bros was my first introduction to something - dissapointment from the big N.
I have never stopped being a fan of Super Mario World having owned it on the SNES, Gameboy Advance and Virtual Console. So when I heard about this New Super Mario Bros I couldn't help but rush out for it. What a sad day that was, 14 years of waiting for a sequel and I get the dumbed down Mario ever!
All I'm asking for is that Nintendo make a real sequel to Super Mario World and not another lazy New Super Mario Bros. Don't suppose it'll happen any time soon... :(
But hey there's always Galaxy 2 to look forward to :D

Phew when I first saw this I thought it was a port of the DS game and Nintendo where doing a Sony.
Still would rather this game was on DS and the Toad characters where main characters I just hope they tie into the story if their is one.
Lets face facts its Mario no matter where it should be on or who else should be in it aslong as it has lots of levels I'll play it lol.

Actually "Little Big Mario Bros" planet sounds like a great idea.

I don't mind the 2d look but please, put in some wifi action so we can play other people over the internet!

I am not fussy about graphical quality as long as a game is fun to play - but even a game with the graphical arsenal of Manic Miner would be transformed if you had online multiplayer capabilty.
