To be honest, really disappointed that Valve would do this. With the incredible support that TF2 has received, L4D now feels like a waste of money. Nice. Because they don't want to develop for it, you moron. Somethings not right. This must be an expansion.
It looked like tf2 though abit.
The game isnt even a year old and valve are already prepared to have a sequal out already?
Considering they have taken years to make 1 episode of half life 2 that doesnt add up. And it better be free for pc, they cant possibly charge for this can they? what happened to all the custom maps with l4d? i went back to l4d after the survival modes to check it out, got bored after a couple of hours I don't quite know how this can be - unless development commenced prior to the original's release...
All the same, more l4D is anything but bad news. There's no way this won't come to the PC. I mean, we all know the ports of Valve games SUCK on consoles. (I still laugh at people who bought Team Fortress 2 for xbox and not PC  I <3 my PC TF2 updates :P)
I'm not touching any console Valve game, I'll wait for the PC version kthxbb. perhaps this is to be episode 3's companion when it is released. We can only hope so. L4D was cool, repetitive but cool, so it seems safe to assume l4d2 can improve on that.
also, HURRY UP WITH EPISODE 3 I'VE BEEN WAITING FOREVER!!!!! Well, now we know why we haven't got any new levels for L4D. I'm sure it will be good but it is a bit disappointing that they have decided to make a new one when the first is not even a year old and has had very little support compared to other valve titles. Would rather have new levels for the first than have to shell out again for a brand new one. Damn I was really hoping for Episode 3 and frankly im surprised Valve are going to release a sequel this quickly, it doesn't seem like them. sorry but with all due respect, HAVE VALVE LOST THE ****ING PLOT? THIS IS THE SORT OF MONEY MAKING STUNT EA WOULD PULL! there must be some reason for this, some kind of outside influence or SOMETHING. this is completely out of character for valve because they know better than anyone else now that l4d will be redundant. i want answers. the greatest developer in the world would not do something like this. I agree with your surprise. I heard L4D2 rumoured but thought no way valve would release a new game so soon. Update the old game! I assume they are fed up updating their great games with free content but Like hell im buying a L4D1.5
So much more milege left in the old game, epecially with a SDK for PC. Really disappointed valve did this :( You should see the official Steam forums for L4D2, it's in uproar.
They're right, though, this is a proper b*ll*cks move from Valve.
Left 4 Dead was over-priced for what it was, and a lot of people bought it on the assumption that it would receive a similar level of support to the rest of Valve's catalogue to make up for the initial thinness of the package.
I'm guessing that this news is Valve's way of telling us that their "Gentleman's Agreement" with their customers is over, and we should commence bending over at the earliest possible opportunity.
(Either that, or in a move reeking of genius, inform us that PC owners of the original L4D will be able to upgrade to the sequel for a mere £10. If that's the plan, then good for Valve, and double-good for us!) am i the only one that thinks this game looks fricken awesome!? Errr...... I was worried by the initial news leak.
This looks like it might be better but it just goes to prove how light on content the first game was.
So this is out this year then?
Well, I don't know what to say, I'm genuinely shocked.
It better be bloody amazing then, because they've really pissed off a lot of people.
I'm not a PC gamer so I don't have the same knowledge and respect of Valve's treatment of the consumer but I can see why a lot of people are peeved. I find it surprising that Valve have come up with a sequel so soon after the first one was out, however I find it much more surprising that so many people are giving Valve such a hard time without even waiting for any proper comment from them! After years and years of industry leading levels of support for their games, it seems everyone is very quick to turn on them - guess all that support was a waste of time since it doesn't seem to have bought then any customer loyalty.
Odd that I didn't hear anyone complaining that there is a 6th Call of Duty coming out... seems like only last year that number 5 came out.. There's going to be so much competition later this year in the first person shooter genre I certainly won't have the time for this. The first was already overpriced, as it was little more than a mod. It's good fun, but there's plenty coming that's far better.
The chainsaw was obviously held back from the original to be used to entice us to the sequel. That doesn't work for me. I had fun, but Left4Dead was a once only purchase for me. The next shooters I buy will have more features, more maps, a story mode, and online. Maybe a few more sequels on and Left4Dead might justify it's price tag. Although I cannot complain that I haven't gotten my value for money from Left 4 Dead (limited it may be, but the fact remains I've played it online more than ANYTHING else put together), I am a little disappointed that it seems it isn't getting any further support. Surely a few more maps at the very least? this is truly shocking to say the least, in respose to the guy further up talking about cod 6 or whatever, yes, thats normal, because activision is already at the low down level of ****ing its tied up gimp costomers whenever it needs more money - along with ea. valve currently soar above the rest with its customer and game support and the complete outstanding repeated quality of its releases. if they do this, its will be a dramatic turnaround and everything they have worked to hard to build up will just come crashing down. we must wait and see though if they will be loyal, because i have my trust in them. Loved the first one, and love the look of this one. I see many concerns that this is just cash in and should be an expansion as oppose to a fully fledged sequel. Well I am selling out, I don't care, if the production values are as good as the original this will rock. Of course I will be buying it. I love all the self righteousness on the internet (especially the Valve forums):
"I will never buy another <insert company name here> product again!" That's all well and good until you hear about everyone else playing it and loving it.
But you know once they've got over their little keyboard nerd rage they'll be off to pre-order it. Bless 'em.
And the wheels of commerce in the free world keep on a'trundling. All that has been shown is a trailer.
Everyone is jumping to conclusions. We'll have to wait and see what Valve reveal later in the week about its pricing point, method of delivery etc.
Like LucienSanchez, I'll be buying it too, no matter how and for how much its released. For all the reasons mentioned above I definatly won't be buying this for full price. I'll probably wait 'til it's going cheap on Amazon or one of Steam's weekend deals.
If it was just for PC I might expect it to be basicly like DLC for the first game, maybe no more than £15. But since it's coming out on 360 I bet it'll be £40-odd, like an EA or Activision franchise. It really seems strange for a sequel from Valve to be out so early. From the looks of things, it is not going to be as advanced from the first as say, Half Life 2 was to HL 1. Also, still no news on episode 3? Come on Valve, every single one of your fans would have unanimously voted for news of ep3, or even portal 2 over L4D 2.
Saying all that, I will still buy it. The only thing is, like Final fantasy 10 was the end of Square's respect, they must be careful not to go the same way. A pity, as if they would have been announcing LFD2 at next year's E3, I would have been wetting myself. Announcing this so early has pissed on my grapes a little. You can listen to a podcast with Chet Faliszek of Valve here (click the 'read all comments' button down there on the left if you're just reading under the article and you can't see the hyperlink highlighted in blue), though be warned that it's a pretty long interview. Make sure you have about 50 minutes spare.
For those who can't be bothered, Valve say they will continue with support and content for the original L4D even after the sequel's release. So stop whining like getting a new game is a bad thing.
The second game will be much bigger, have a hell of a lot more features and weapons, includes a new melee system and lots of other cool sounding stuff. Seriously, check out the podcast and you'll feel loads better about the new game.
