Share this article: Digg.comFacebookGoogle BookmarksN4GGamerblipsdel.icio.usRedditSlashdot.orgStumbleUpon I'm sorry, but I got a little chill when the music kicked in. Looks wonderful. Hope to see a playable demo at E3. Ah, the heartwarming tale of a small boy and his giant dog/cat/bird... thing. Utterly amazing. Looks like Shadow of the Colossus with a friendly colossus! Finally, the game I bought a PS3 for, and it looks AMAZING!!! looks like a tech demo or some kind of intro as that would be a pretty boring game otherwise! Oh my gosh, that does look fantastic o.o. Wow. That is looking 'really, really good'.
It seems to have a touch of Studio Ghibli to it - which is never a bad thing....seems to be an almost Mayan setting too.
I guess we can safely say that we'll find out more at E3, but that looks very promising.
:) That does look quite amazing. Get that and GT5 released, and I'll buy a PS3. Having never played Shadow of the Colossus before I picked it up at a booty for £2.00. All I can say is....WOW! That haunting music and the feeling of absolute alone is incredible. Also picked up ICO too though I haven't played it yet. WOW it looks stunning!! SONY are bringing it on!!!!!! WOOP WOOP I think this is really old footage though that was shown behind closed doors at last years E3 I reckon this year its gonna be new footage and looking much much better if u think thats possible. if only it was to come out this year! but i doubt it, this and GT5 are the only games I want and need.
frackin amazing as always from team ico :o whatever that creature is, i want one... I really can't see where you're coming from with that, and I'm a huge Studio Ghibli fan. Looks great, reminds me of the Panzer Dragoon intros. Hope this game sells well. It looks stunning. But this looks like yet another fruity, touchy-feely game that I'm unlikely to be that interested in. Which is a shame because it looks so pretty. ICO was brilliant, that Griffin thing beats Fable 2s dog any day as far as a virtual pet goes.
I just know they are making something amazing, cant wait to play anything Team ICO create.E3 hurry up. I didn't really mean it as a direct reference - just more the odd creatures and the small child in a strange environment....also, I can't get the sound here (I'm at work) - so I was imagining the score to be something similar to Howls Moving Castle.
:) Looking good, as always.
Shadow of the Colussus blew me away, and it was one of my favourite games of last-gen. Been looking forward to more footage of the next game from Team Ico.
I'm a big Ghibli fan too. I can't see much in the way of Ghibli about it. But I suppose it just looks very, very Japanese in the small touches and detail. As others have said, the Game looks great and is probably a long way from release as well. I never really got into either of the first two Games, although I can still appreciate why others love them.
Roll on E3! Less than a fortnight to go now! »
True. In Ghibli films there is nearly always a focus on a young male/female lead. Usually a male and female playing off eachother or striking up some relationship during the story.
Maybe you should open your heart, and mind, a little more then? another great game in ps3 catalgoue.
whats the shadow of the colossus promo movie?? is that coming for ps3 as well. I like how the camera has a very slighty wobble to it. At first I thought the creature was CGI then super imposed onto the game world but after a good few replays im convinced that this is the real deal. Looks stunning! Nice movie.
Maybe we'll see it sometime in 2011, just before gran turismo finally gets released  »»
I think it was also the fact that there seems to be nothing violent or threatening about the Griffin towards the kid....I don't know, just made me think of Studio Ghibli.
:) Looks simply increadible..... looks kinda cool but im very interested in knowing how they will top Shadow of the Colossus which is 1 of the best games ever for me. hopefully next year but you never know. I'm not sure what I just watched! On one hand it looks interesting- and very pretty. But I think the Griffin/puppy thing looks a bit cutesy. Does it actually fly with those wings? Or maybe it grows up during the game, that'd be cool.
The video does kinda remind me of a soppy Panzer Dragoon- starring a winged andrex puppy. Think it'll be a try before I buy.
Either way, it's very different which seems to be team ICO's speciality. I enjoyed SOTC but not as much as others (it was fun but veeeery repetitive). This looks brilliant. The PS3 is really bringing it on in terms of awesome exclusives now. wow simply awesome. Derfinately as someones already said. ghibliesque.
I read somewhere a while back that ghibli might be going into the games biz too. maybe theres some influence in this.
Now all we need is launch day Dlc to turn the griffin into Totoro and i'll be one happy camper. i can not wait for this game!!!! if its anything like ICO & SOC, then it will easily be in my top 10 games of this gen!!!! Roll on E3 for more info :D Um if I remember it correctly, they are already making a game (studio Ghibli that is) and I think it's for the Wii, or DS, not sure, but it's for Nintendo definitely. I read about it last year(?) on kotaku.
As for 'Trico', can't wait. This and Heavy Rain are my most wanted PS3 exclusives, with GoW3 closely behind.
?????? No? It's a prototype movie for Shadow of the Colossus, you know, that GAME from like 5 years ago that was released on PS2 and became one of the best games ever created? You heard about that one, right? I don't reckon that big cat's gonna be able to fly. For a start it's climbing up a rock face rather than flying and it doesn't appear to have the wing span for full aviation. I reckon gliding short distances is more likely. You are right I think.
I think this footage is old, as I saw the exact same CGi of that chain and stone in some advertisement for Team ICO's next project about 2 years ago, but it was of course only one still image.
Does look magic though. Could be a landmark title but I'm sure there will be something new to show at E3 which is turning into an event that is the most anticipated in history...or close This game has been in development for four years now! It could be closer to release than we think.
I also agree that this is an old build and that the E3 presentation should blow our socks clean off.
Good times. Dammit, okay I'll get a PS3 then.
Just wish the ****ing pad was better. »
If this, GT5 and Heavy Rain all release this year, my world will end
there also seems to be a special quality to games that have been in development for a long time (that's if they are not cancelled like Duke Nukem!)
very likely a 2010 release though! I'd say that a lot of people will disagree with you about that *cough*Too Human's 10 years*cough* (though I'm one of those who actually really liked that game :P) Except for maybe Too Human... that was pants... This looks amazing - and if it's not the final product (supposedly there will be a more up-to-date video on E3) I am very excited at the prospect of another great opus by Team ICO. Their first two games blew me away and I've been waiting like crazy fro this next project. It's going to be awesome. Hope they release it sometime this century though... »»
Agreed.
According to a few websites, new Heavy Rain info will be revealed tomorrow or Friday. I'm still holding on for a November release.
Dare I say December for GT5?
All will be revealed soon.... I think you are being very optimistic for GT5 this year. Im gonna make a prediction of heavy rain and uncharted as the winters ps3 exclusives then maybe heavy rain next spring and GT5 next christmas. Don't have a clue when this games gonna come out. Im a bit surprised some footage has come out before E3.
I hate analysts so I don't know why im making predictions lol. Amazing. The atmosphere and emotion that Team ICO managed to weave into their wares is second to none. looks great...but 4 years???,,these games need to speed up,it means nothing if a fantastic game comes out every 4 years when really good games come out 6 times a year
i mean, seriously we will prolly be looking at a maximum of 20hrs gameplay...4 years, ouch If you get diamonds every day, you'd soon grow tired of them. worse reply to one of my posts yet, well done I can beat it, worst reply to one of is posts ever lol » I think you meant worst, but nevermind that, you know it's the truth anyway. If fantastic games were coming out several times a year, then they'd move to the 'really good' category and you'd be back wanting fantastic games to come out more often, simply cause they'd become a standard. That's how it works and that's what I meant by that reply. »»
think about it,5-6 years pretty much means 1 of these game per console gen..not worth the wait..and i was being positive on the 20hr gameplay ...it would suprise me if it was that long »»» Oh come one now, you are just exaggerating now. Sure, if there was only 1 developer making fantastic games then you'd be right, but there's more of them so that's why you get more than 1 fantastic game per gen. A few of them per gen is good enough, that's why they are also so precious, cause they are so rare. And just because of that it IS worth it. Just like with diamonds, etc. Fantastic games are rare and that's how it should be.
(And you got ICO AND SotC on PS2, not counting all those other fantastic games like Okami, so don't tell me you get ONLY 1 per gen... ) I hope we see more of this at E3 as it looks great. Also I think Sony are going to own this years E3 show, I think their list of up coming releases is far stonger than either Nintendo or Microsoft. Trico, Heavy Rain, GT5, God of War 3 and a new Katamari game is one of the best line-ups in years. WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT did i say… WANT>? I found the "Trico" video to be quite heart touching, and although it looks nice I've seen better on the PC. As for the "Shadow of The Colossus" I was surprised by how plain the graphics looked - it looks several years old and the opening animation of the horses galloping looked silly. Ah well, maybe the actual gameplay would out balance the graphical impression. it is several years old :? this depends on your preferences and point of view, the only game i have played in the series you list is GT1,2,3. trico has not been announced and has no release date so it might not be out until 2011 for all we know. Okami was Capcom
Ico was released here in 2002
SotC was released in 2006
thats 4 years in between, and now with demand for graphics and audio high its starting to get longer, see this one..now on 5 years and still not out
i am not dissing this game as such(it does look great as i said),just to how long they take, sure they are a small team...but still I make it 2009, not 2011 mate. That would make me too close to 30 for my liking. I would've definately taken up some crazy youth trend.
We'd all be getting excited by the next gen to boot. What the hell is going on here? This is the 2nd time in ONE TOPIC. FFS people, SotC IS SEVERAL YEARS OLD, it was released on PS2. It's one of the highest rated games on PS2 and one of the best games ever released. That movie (as MENTIONED in the article) is just a prototype movie of this older game.
I'm losing you here. WTF? I said that if there was only 1 developer making fantastic games then you'd be right, but that's not true as there's more developers on the market, like Clover (Platinum Games now) and their Okami (Capcom was only a publisher, not developer...) This gen you get games like Trico, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, GT5, GoW3, MGS4, etc. etc. etc. (and that's just the PS3) so you get MORE than ONE fantastic game per gen. What's your point anyway? You want a Team ICO game every year or what? They'd become very boring very soon.
Ever heard that phrase about rushing things? No? Or the one about that even Rome wasn't built in a day? No? Try to look them up via google.
You have Team ICO, Valve, Blizzard and other developers who take few years to make a fantastic game, that's why they are fantastic and that's why they take so long and THAT'S why in the end you get MORE fantastic games per gen. Just look at PS2's library. If they were like fastfood they wouldn't be fantastic. Once again, see my post about diamonds... Games have always taken a long time to make, it's just the way it is. Ocarina of Time felt like an absolute age, but was well worth the wait.
Team Ico aren't making sequels, they're making games with totally different gameplay mechanics each time so they're not going to have a 2 year turn around like Infinity Ward. That all takes work.
Sequels are pretty much a refinement of what has gone before, they've already done the groundwork and are usually using the same engine so it speeds things up a hell of a lot.
Development teams are getting bigger all the time, development times seem on a par with what went before as a result.

What he said,
and in addition....I never had a PS2 and I know all about Shadow of the Colossus. It screams last gen by the bloody video. you are displaying a whopping great ego my friend and I would keep that in check if i were you
you are a disgrace to the game and wat you have broadcast above is a new low it really is
now I don't know if you work for Microsoft as a PR or wat but it is clear that recent Sony announcements have made you nervous and fearing for your future
that is the only explanation
Mr. Cell processor has shown us in recent weeks the psychologically overwhelming 'games' possible on PS3 using the peerless power inside
even I do not know the limits of Cell processor and that even makes me nervous
but just tell meh: what game on a £3-4000 P.C looks as good as Uncharted 2 :?:
there isn't one you grotesque pig Crysis you ignorant. And nowadays you can even run it maxed out on a pc with price similar to PS3. Not to mention it's over a year old game. Or Crysis Warhead.
See? That actually makes 2. Aahw yeah! Good news that this game is coming closer to completion. I've been looking forward to some new footage of Team Ico's new project. Their games seem to trigger a special epic feeling on me only Zelda-games have before. At first I thought this footage maybe was pre-rendered. But as I think of Ico and Shadow Of The Colossus, I remember how beautiful the landscape looked. And how good/realistic the horse's animation looked. And this beast moves very realistic. So subtle. The fur looks incredible too as it did in Shadow. So remembering that, I believe this is all in-game graphics. I hope it's coming out this year. Finally I can put my PS3 to good use. The new Uncharted, God Of War 3, Trico will finally give my PS3 face. Well neither ICO nor Shadow of the Colossus used pre-rendered movies and everything was made ingame so I'd say that this is also ingame. Plus as you mentioned, the fur was already incredible on PS2 so with PS3's power... yeah, it's looking fantastic. don't gimme this Crisis claptrap
the only crisis is the one going off in your head after you saw those Uncharted 2 visuals
now you telling me a £250 P.C can run Crisis max settings
my oh my jesus joseph and mary that is a load of balderdash
in fact I think you need to go and lay down in a dark room for 10 minutes and contemplate what you wrote
Mr Cell : making dreams a reality All I can say is WOW Lots of great games coming the way of the Great Machine PS3 » Nowadays you can buy a PC for like 500eur that can run Crysis maxed out. That's pretty close to the 320eur price of PS3.
Oh oh and don't forget that there's CryEngine 3 that runs on PS3 AND X360 you ignorant.
It has nothing to do with the CELL processor, it's all about optimization. But to be able to understand that you'd have to have a brain in that fanboyish head of yours. :P Graphics look boss. Better than boss - CEO?
One thing that does worry me (well it doesn't exactly worry me, but what the hell) is the sheer cost involved in making these games with such long development times. And surely they are learning new things from consoles (especially the PS3) all the time, so do they then have to go back again and 'redo' parts of it when they realise they could make it better with what they have learned?
Four years, and there's a possibility it won't be out for another. How is this sustainable? Look at all the love and effort put into KZ2 over four years or so. How do you make that money back? Especially when games like FIFA and NFS are thrown out annually and generally trump games like this in terms of sales?
Perhaps Sony thought they would have sold alot more units by now? I don't know. And we've all seen that often the best and most beautiful examples of the 'craft' of game development get ****ed in the face by the general public when it comes to sales.
Still, as long is it does make a profit (how viable might not come into it) and we get amazing games, then that is the most important thing. »»
500 euros is 180 euros more than 320 euros maniac
alos, if you think 'Cry Engine 3' is as powerful as the last one you need to go back and lay down in that dark room
I refuse to converse anymore with a desirous leech as yourself who owns a PS3 but was not satisfied with his lot so sold his soul
you should be ashamed of yourself
enough  it's mary before joseph Am I the only one that immediately thinks of that guy in V for Vendetta who spouted propaganda on tv whenever Suivaloom opens his mouth? Watch it and see what I mean! You can just imagine him shouting all the same drivel that Suivaloom does. In test after test after test, the PS3 has been proven to be roughly on par with 360 in terms of power. The Cell is not optimised for graphics, and this shows in loads of games. Would be brilliant running spreadsheets though. Has anyone thought of porting Championship Manager to it?
Team Ico's new game does look good though. I remember playing Ico and not putting it down until I had finished. Then I immediately picked it up and started over again because I didn't want it to end. Okami from Clover was awesome as well, though I prefer it (and Resi 4) on Wii - both examples of how the wiimote can, in the right hands, enhance a game. Have you ever even PLAYED a PC game? I suspect not, because if you had, you would most likely be aware that most PC games have this little thing called graphical settings.
That's what makes people with relatively low powered PCs able to run most modern games at an acceptable frame rate. It's also what enables a multiplatform game to look better when maxed out on a PC than it does on the console.
Don't take my word for it: find a friend who has a top notch PC, and go play BioShock, Gears of War, Fallout 3, or whatever with all graphical settings at maximum. They'll look much better than the PS3 and 360 versions.
So yeah, CryEngine 3 games will look both better and worse than Cry Engine 2 games. Better when fully maxed out on a high spec PC, and worse when played on a medium or low spec PC and the consoles. »»» No, CryEngine 3 on consoles isn't as powerful as CryEngine 2 on PCs, that's true, but even then it's pretty damn close.
That remark about me selling my soul made me laugh. Seriously, I lol'd.
*Now I just need to buy a Wii and the Devil himself can come for the rest of me* The 10 years Too Human was in development must have cost Microsoft heavily then. WOW!
been wanting to watch it all day at work after reading it and finaly seen it. Beautiful...was not expecting the music from Millers Crossing to be used so that was a bonus !
Just dont want it to have a depressing ending...that big ol thing is too cute to die...the kid on the other hand  Whats any of what Ricflairs written got to do with MSoft and their games? »
Wasn't he talking about long development times? Saying Too Human has one of the longest development times ever and didn't sell very well I think it's very relevant. After all he brought the subject up in an entirely unrelated article. I notice you didn't question him about that. The poster that mentioned the Panzer dragoon saga reference was spot on... If it ends up being half the game that was then wow.
The only problem i have with this will probably get a lot of venom poured my way but ive found their previous games to be a bit meh...
I had SOTC and Ico on the PS2 and although Ico was pretty cool in places it felt a little clumsy. And Shadow of the colussus was a cool idea ruined by repetition similiar to working in a chinese factory.
Also the comment asking about the sustainability of creating games for this length of time holds true to a certain extent.
You have to sell a lot of copys of a game to recoup the sort of losses an extended development cycle can incur and im not sure this would sell that much. After all not all developers can afford to spend that length of time on a game and still turn a profit, in these uncertain times it becomes more so.
Look at Shenmue 2 for the perfect example of dev costs ruining the chances of the game being succesful enough to commision a sequel. :( Heh, indeed. Apart from the framerate, SotC was a stunning looking game. You rode Agro for ages and the game world just kept on going infront of your eyes - no load times. Agro's animation was the best I have ever seen. Stumbling across remnants of the civilization that once inhabited the world was a pure joy. Walking through a forest area with the sun shining through the trees was a sight, I tell thee. I so badly want this!!!!
Looks like it's quite a bit into development I take it we're gonna see a lot more of this at E3.
Seems Sony are really going to rule E3 this year!! :D I have just discovered the meaning of life... 42 »»
God, man. You're such a prat.
Entirely unrelated article? Did you read the bit that said "SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida revealed last year that Team Ico's been working on the game for four years, and it's looking "really, really good"."?
And yeah, add Too Human to that list then, maybe MS thought they would have sold loads of xboxs seeing as if it took ten years to develop, MS didn't even have a console out. Perhaps they thought they'd have steam rollered the console market by now, and have sold so many consoles that even if a relatively small percentage of owners bought it, enoough copies would be sold to make the massive development costs worth while? I don't know. And yes it must've cost MS heavily - and they didn't even get a very good game out of it, at least KZ2 was well received and critically acclaimed.
You will notice I also said that the graphics look great and mentioned the love etc put into the developmment of KZ2 aswell.
Some people just want to read fanboy comments into something that was written as completely neutral. Had this piece been about Too Human, or had Duke Nukem been a 360 game, my comments and thoughts would have been exactly the same. I think I even saw someone accuse KFD of creating a fake profile, so he can show his true colours, without tainting his supposedly fake stance on consoles - some people can't accept that others aren't the rabid, single console obsessed morons that they are.
You do this regularly, with all your stupid little 'rolls eyes' comments and demands for links to back everything up with statements from the horses mouth. It is frankly pathetic for someone who is, based on your comments about older games, a grown ****ing man.
Go back to trawling the internet and screening shareholders meetings for facts that pass your own unique litmus test. Remove any fanboy goggles and stare in wonder at a game that is surely to set the benchmark for adventure gaming. It looks incredible and it's not just another generic fps. Wake up and see the awesome PS3 being used properly. you completely neutral!  please don't make me laugh
If it had been an article about Alan Wake would you have brought up your waffle about long development times? I don't think so. You couldn't stand the fact that people were interested in a PS3 game and thought you put a little negative spin on it. »»
Thats because I have remembered everything you have taught me. Now another MSoft game reference what is up with you? Sorry Voodoo, but I didn't get any of that from ricflairs post...he was really only talking about whether long development times hamper the profit that a game can make - be it PC, PS3, 360 or 3DO.
I think it's a fair point when you consider that some of the 'modern classics' that we all discuss here don't seem to sell in the same numbers as something like Fifa or PES - which is actually quite worrying.
In general, the production costs for the average game has rocketted over the years - so, surely there comes a danger with attempting something ambitious and that pushes the boundaries a little?...especially in the current climate.
In short - it was a good point raised and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a sly dig at any company.
:) This looks really good. Not sure its a griffin though, looks more like a massive flying rat to me!! that looks ntastic. and I'm sure it will be TEAM ICO RULES! Is anyone completely neutral?
I did write a long reply, then realised there's no point in getting into a petty argument with you. Where does that get either of us?
I just rememembered a previous one and it is not worth the time and energy for either of us. You can have an opinion on me and that is fine. In the same way that people can have differing opinions on consoles. That is fine also.
I am stuck working in a hotel in Mallorca, with nothing but my little netbook, gens, MAME, about 1,500 old school games and a crappy logitech USB controller to keep me occupied. So really the PS3/360 are miles from mind once I start enjoying Soleil on the MD.
Enjoy your PS3 voodoo, and I'm sure that the Ico game will be great. Who knows, if work goes well out here I will probably have one soon.
Apologies for and rude comments in my previous post.
Kisses xx Sony are really impressing the hell out of me this year. They have had some good solid titles released this year and I think they will probably receive "best of show" this year at E3. I can't think of what MS could show that would make me think different. I am looking forward to seeing Trico, Uncharted 2, and Heavy Rain footage at E3 this year. I can't really think of anything that MS may be showing that I am very excited about. Oh, besides Mass Effect 2. Really looking forward to that one.
Hopefully they come up with something that blows me away. So far this year I am a little disappointed. As for Nintendo, I am just hoping that they don't embarrass themselves like they did last year. I may need to purchase a PS3 soon. I have big fears that whilst this game will be a critical success, it'll end up in one of those top ten lists of best games that no one bought. Team Ico's games have all been in there, can't see that changing with this one unfortunately.
I'll do my part, even buy a copy or two as gifts! Though, last time I did that with Shenmue, my mate barely played it. Still bugs me to this day  Oh dear Suivaloom. It would appear that your advanced case of psychosis grows worse by the minute. 3,000-4000 pound PC? Please, you inbred cretin. A 600-800 pound PC will do just fine and pack hardware that makes consoles look like dinosaurs *hardware* wise. As for naming a game, I believe another poster already did the honours and put you to shame. Twice. I wonder what trite tone of lunacy you will be baying and howling when the next generation of DX11 GPUs are released in Q4 2009? Nevermind, the chances of you uttering something even half-sane and intelligent at the same time are not high. Incidentally, you do realise that "Mr. Cell" doesn't know who you are, doesn't care about you and is not your personal friend, right? Devotion is one thing; blind fanatical obsession is another. Aye Voad, Sony seems to have a very nice looking games line-up for this year, including some of the games already released. If the rumored price-cut does come to fruition later this year, and if it is of a sufficient size to tip the scales, then I might just go for it. I like Xbox360's gaming library and MS's customer service but I'm still concerned about the build quality of that console otherwise I would probably have bought it already. The PS3 does seem to have a better build quality but I refuse to pay 388-399 euros for it and with just one controller to boot. Of course buying a PS3 would violate my extensive ban on Sony products brought about by the fact that Sony created SecuROM, however, since EA and BioWare now appear to be dropping SecuROM that may mean the message is getting across thanks to the multitudes of customers who said "Enough"! Hey Ric, good to see you posting on the boards again - I was wondering where you went. Just wanted to thank you for the "assist". Enjoy Mallorca and stay cool in the approaching summer heat. 8) Hey KFD,
I would have left the site if I could have worked out how to do it! I got a little sick of the baiting articles. Even though we complain about them, we still post, post, post away!
It is already 25 degrees out here. It's not bad; all expenses paid to drive around the beautiful countryside and look at 5m€+ villas with the distinct possibility of a large (and urgently required!) pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
Although I did have to endure the disco at the hotel across the road last night. What kind of DJ plays the Minder theme tune, Karaoke and acapella versions of the Home and Away theme tune, the Crossroads theme and Steptoe and Son theme amongst other lost 'classics'.
Been playing Alien 3 on the megadrive emulator, god those games were hard back in the day! I forgot how amazing Snow Bros was!
Speaking of absent regulars, where the hell has marty gone? I do have a 360 elite and have had absolutely no problems so far. I've had it for a year now I think. But with that said nearly everyone else that I know that has a 360 has had to send it in. I think that I may be just lucky in this case. But yes, I am really starting to consider picking up a PS3 as well. I think that I'd try to find a used 40 gig instead, that way I get a bargain and backwards compatibility. Haven't given it much thought though, not sure if it would be wise to buy a used system or not or if there were any issues at all with the earlier 40 gig models and whether I'd still be able to get it fixed if there were. Do your homework Voad. 40, 80 and 160gb PS3's are only PS1 compatible. 60gb PS3's are PS1 and PS2 compatible. Not 100% backwards compatible though.
You can pick up 60gb PS3's for £269 from Gamestation, I saw one that price this afternoon. Upgrade the hdd to 250 or 320gb as soon as you get it, any 2.5" sata hdd will do, £35ish. Got my 60gb(now 250gb) from Ebay and I'm well happy with it. Then get it covered by Sony's continuous play and you'll have a replacement console within 2 days IF it stops working. IF. SHH, you could always get a cheap faulty console, get it covered and get it replaced 6 weeks or so after taking the cover out, not that I ever told you that of course.ahem. Reliability issues are pretty rare though.
Next, get Uncharted, LBP, Killzone 2, Resistance 1/2 and a few others and enjoy.
Seriously though, the PS3 looks like it just might be opening up it's stride and showing us what it's capable off and like many others I'm in for the ride, Trico will without a doubt be a pre order for myself, it looks amazing and Team ICO WILL deliver one of THE standout titles of this gen. The last time I payed full price for a game was COD2 when I got the 360 in 3/06 and RE4 on Gamecube when released.
Just ignore all the pathetic fanboy crap and get all the consoles you like, it's the games that make it worthwhile, what console it's on is does not matter. Ahh thanks, I didn't know there was a difference between the earlier models and the backwards compatibility. How much does this "Continuous Play" cost? And how long are you covered for under this plan? Also, I like the other idea you had but we can just keep that one on the DL. Continuous play costs £4.99 a month for a PS3. Seems expensive but when you realise that 60gb PS3's are not now available and you'll need to pay >£100 for a repair, it's worth it.
New PS3's are available from about £225, if your not bothered with ps2 compatability then that would be the way to go. HDD size does not matter, ALL PS3's now available are the same spec and the hdd is very very easy to upgrade and dirt cheap as well. Your not getting a stripped down version by getting a 40gb model. Then with a new one get an extended guarentee if you want to, it's cheaper than continuous play. CP is only really needed for 60gb models. Fitting a larger hdd does not require the unit to be taken apart and does not void your warranty but keep the old one just in case you need to get a replacement ps3. I think this footage is old, as I saw the exact same CGi of that chain and stone in some advertisement for Team ICO's next project about 2 years ago, http://www.zuneconverter.net but it was of course only one still image. |
