New Headquarters for Lutherans in Kenya

Kenya has a fast-growing Lutheran population, yet a relatively small number of full-time pastors. In order to assist and support Lutheran congregations, missions, and schools in this largely Muslim country, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya (ELCK) constructed a new building called Luther Plaza in Nairobi. LCEF assisted the ELCK with a construction loan made possible through the Arthur C. Haake World Ministry Fund. According to LCMS World Mission, the ELCK has 70,000 members yet only 110 pastors to serve them. The three-story building houses ELCK headquarters, and the central diocese and Nairobi Parish offices, and ministry space. The yet-unneeded extra office space is being rented out to help sustain the operation of the building.

RCW Loan Helps Pastor During Busy Transition Time

Moving from one church to another is a busy time for pastors and their families. Rev. Craig Meissner of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Steger, Ill., went through that very process last year. He and his wife Rebekah used LCEF’s mortgage services, and said it helped make the transfer a little less chaotic.

“The loan process was very easy,” Rev. Meissner said. “The rate (at LCEF) was good and competitive—it was one of the best rates we saw out there.” He thinks LCEF provides some advantages such as lower than expected closing costs, and LCEF waives the need for private mortgage insurance (PMI).

Laborers Assist in Addition at Grace Evangelical in El Centro, Calif.

Laborers For Christ was asked to assist the congregation at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, El Centro, Calif., to add nearly 1,000 square feet to its original Spanish-style church, which now serves as its fellowship center, Janke Hall. The congregation uses the hall for church and community meetings, classes, and social events. It also has a satellite worship site at the Hispanic Outreach Center in El Centro.

Faith Lutheran in Georgetown, TX is Growing Quickly

Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown, Texas, has grown to nearly 1,100 members since it was first chartered in 1982. A Laborers For Christ crew is helping the congregation build a new 17,000-square-foot sanctuary that will seat over 600; the current sanctuary is being remodeled to become a multi-purpose space. Investments Help Create New Space, Renewed Spirit

This spring, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., members will mark the one-year dedication anniversary of their 14,000-sq.-ft. worship and education facility, which also includes an inviting coffee and snack area. With the creation of the new space, the congregation is rejuvenated, Pastor Nathan Lewis said, and members seek ministry partnerships with food pantries, group homes, clinics, work places for people with special needs, resource centers for those with mental illnesses, and youth clubs. LCEF was blessed to partner with Prince of Peace to fund the expansion.

Finding a Solution in Your Own Backyard

John and Mary Durkin like to help and educate others. The parents of two young children, John serves as Director of Christian Education (DCE) at St. John Lutheran Church, Indianapolis, Ind., and Mary is a part-time kindergarten teacher at Emmaus Lutheran Church, also in Indianapolis. They were considering debt consolidation options, but the firms they talked to only seemed able to offer a partial resolution. Then John found a faith-based solution — LCEF’s Rostered Church Workers Debt Consolidation Loans.

The couple is now saving a considerable amount every month, more than they expected.

Rostered Church Worker Home Equity Loan Program

A home equity loan is a financial product that allows a borrower to use the equity in his/her home as collateral for a loan.

Homeowners often use the money from home equity loans to pay off higher-interest debt, purchase an automobile, make large-scale home improvements, pay tuition, or for other major purchases.

LCEF's Home Equity Loan Program is the newest loan option for LCMS rostered church workers. Our program is designed to lend personal financial assistance to LCMS ordained and commissioned ministers, allowing them to effectively focus on their calling--witnessing and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others.

LCEF is actively pursuing each state for authorization to make home equity loans to our Rostered Church Workers. Click here to see if LCEF has been authorized to make home equity loans in your state.

Christ’s Kids Preschool, Shakopee—Your LCEF Investments at Work

LCEF investors have helped fund a new preschool ministry in Shakopee (a southwest suburb of the Twin Cities) via a jump start loan to help with expenses over the first three years.

“Christ’s Kids Preschool plans to reach out to our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ,” said Pastor John Grohs of Christ Lutheran. “The Disciples of Christ Lutheran have been looking for ways to reach the community and are excited to move forward. Our community is growing and many new families are moving into the area. This is a way we can reach out and meet some community needs. Our main mission is pointed outside of our congregation to unchurched families, in addition to serving the children already in our church. Juanita Krueger will be installed as Director/Teacher sometime after the first of the year, as we continue to ready our facility for this preschool.”
