Hollywood halts BioShock movie

Rapture film is on "holding pattern" after budget disputes
Universal Pictures has halted production on its live-action movie adaptation of BioShock.

The film, due to be directed by Pirates of the Caribbean head Gore Verbinski, was in pre-production, but the studio has halted work after disputes over its costly budget emerged between the director and studio.

The flick, which had script penned by Gladiator man John Logan, was gearing up to shoot in Los Angeles but ground to a halt after its budget rose to $160 million, Variety reports.

"We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit," director Verbinski revealed. "We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern."

But it's not all bad news by the looks of it, as Verbinski - who turned down directing Pirates of the Caribbean 4 to direct BioShock - says he's determined to make the pic and alternatives, such as shooting in London, are being considered to drag down costs.

Hopefully this won't be another Halo.

This will be another Halo IMO, but if it does make it out, it will be some cheap crap we'll hate :(

This might make a half decent film for once. As for Halo i have alot of faith in that being aload of shit! Halo is a brilliant game please do not ruin its rep

Hey if its stops another pirates film then i am all for it.
And that budget doesnt sound to extreme compared to some high bugeted crap Hollywood churns out. Why dont they just cut scary movie 27 or anohter awful parody film instead that take humor to new lows.

Is it just me, or is anyone else dreading MGS & GOW films.

I don't think that even the likes of Uwe Boll could make the story for MGS any worse than it already is. And if you are talking Gears of War, there isn't enough there to make a decent story. Now if you are referring to God of War, then I think that could maybe make a decent action flick.

I don't think anyone needs a Bioshock movie apart from the studios who are just looking at the $$$$ flashing in their eyes.

Bioshock has a brilliant story that is well told during the game and I can't see it being improved in the cinema, so why bother?

And if the film is made, what are the odds on it having an under 18 rating, which is only going to help encourage children to play a violent game.
